I read a forum post on bimmerforum about this same thing a few years ago. Nobody was able to get the PIDs at the time. Searched there?

Yeah it is such a shame. If you use Google Maps. Switch to Waze. As Waze uses both Google Maps and it's own data. In the US it is far more accurate. Google owns them anyway. Google Assistant is now built into Waze too.

I haven't used them in well over a decade too. Interesting thing I found in the US is that WAZE has a huge user-base in replacement of Radar Detectors. Which are illegal in some states. Any speed trap is quickly reported and then backed up by multiple drivers. Waze then alerts me. 'Police reported ahead' It is great for reporting speed cameras and tax revenue officers guarding the ends of passing lanes. I have been using it here in NZ. But it seems everyone sees it as nothing but GPS maps here. "It's state highway 1, i'm not going to get lost". So the user data is limited and therefore not as reliable. However it's best uses in the US were its user reports. Fuel Costs Road Closures Flooding POT HOLES Ice/Snow Police Accidents POT HOLES Construction on the Road. Animals on the Road (I reported a Crazed Homeless guy once. It got over 150 thank you's.) Oh and POT HOLES!!!!!! Especially in Jersey. You can even request roadside assistance.

I was looking at these a few months back and was looking for 2009+ lci (facelift). There were a ton of them around. Flooded in and many were Motorsport spec. They were all between 8 and 12k. This one being pre lci would put it in the sub 10k bracket for me. The colour is great though. The kms are about middle of the pack (though good for an 06). I would get a check by an independent specialist though. Low kms on a Jap import can mean it may have just sat in city traffic all its life.

I'm pretty hard on E30's these days. I can't see why poverty spec cars are scaling up in price at the same rate as the more special models. I'm glad you jumped on to ask the questions though. I have a feeling the people who are not are the ones buying these for silly prices. This car to me is a $3.5K car as long as it doesn't have any rust. There is absolutely nothing special on that car at all. Not one desirable part. It is poverty spec (arguable that Auto was not a poverty option when new but it is now).

I agree. Smoke test first just in case there is a vacuum leak somewhere else. For me it was a double issue. They had caused the vacuum leak to stop the CCV from functioning. The CCV had failed and caused a vacuum leak to stop it from smoking but allow the car to run so they could sell it. My CCV was 110% rooted though. As I said I plugged the leak and ended up pumping burnt oil and moisture into the Embassy garage. Took me like 3 hours to get enough air through to blow all the smoke away. Yours might be just on its way out or have a small tear in the diaphragm.

Mine was slightly different but that's the but that fails.

That motor is also visible in this photo. Will get it ready to move tomorrow I think. Fuel will be stuffed though.

Yup I had to do the same thing to my 325ci in the US. I found someone had removed one of the blanking caps on the back of the motor to stop the stuffed PCV from working. Shitty yank mechanic trick to sell a car. I plugged it back in and within seconds had flooded a large underground carpark (in the bloody Embassy) with white smoke. Replaced the PCV and all the problems were solved. That was a stuffed PCV though. After that she stopped eating oil and became as fuel efficient as they get. Engine light for running lean stopped coming on too. Should mention changing out the PCV is a prick. Usually under the intake manifold. BMW quoted me $1800USD to do it. I did it myself for whatever the PCV was worth. $50 odd on Amazon with overnight delivery.

Do N51's have a PCV valve? A PCV with a worn out diaphragm (common in cold weather) will cause an oil smell and consume oil over time. They are vacuum controlled. So another cause is vacuum leaks. Probably the most common BMW issue. I would check for Vacuum leaks first. Then have a look at the PCV valve. There should be plenty of guides on youtube. Checking for vacuum leaks isn't always easy. The fastest way to do this is running a smoke test. Where the smoke leaks out is where your leak is. The gear to do this isn't usually owned by the home mechanic though.

After my above rant about Trademe I no longer have to worry about these muppets messaging stupid questions to me. I no longer use Trademe to sell items. Yes it reduces the audience and in turn my chances of selling an item quickly. But I am not in a hurry to sell anything. Forums are just fine. And usually the people are like minded. As for Facebook market place. The muppet questions you get on there are on another level.

I agree. At $15k a non M-Tech better have a S motor of some kind in it. $15K also opens up the market to far better vehicles. As a driver and not a collector I wouldn't even pay 15K for an M-Tech E30. They just don't have 15K worth of drive in them for me. I loved my one. But I wouldn't buy it now unless I was looking to make money by keeping it for 10 years. Boring.
