Don't get me started on how cars drive, honestly, this means nothing to her, she rated the 2014 i20 she is driving as the best car she has ever driven, so there is the benchmark, and I have driven it, its all sorts of sin. Mondeo's are great to drive, in fact, if you fitted some decent 235's to one I actually think it would leave some "enthusiast" cars behind, the diesel is a banger! And they are HUGE! Banging SONY stereo, I like them. But Euro Fords don't have the best name in longevity... in saying that, nor do Renaults and they are the most reliable cars I have ever owned. Not really my missus, lady friend with benefits who is mates with my mates who knows zero about cars... if she didn't know anyone I knew I would tell her to buy a BMW, that way when we break up I get the last laugh.

Thanks, yes, I have lost touch over the years as to who to speak to and where to go, I used to buy a car at Turners or off randoms every six months, clean them up and drive it around for a while before selling on TM for a profit.. Need something in the next couple of weeks. Have asked a few mates in the industry what they have floating around. As late model as possible, preferably NZ new with a tow bar. Looking at whats out there the 2010 Ford Mondeo is a real bargain but I don't think its a car that would last long without preventive maintenance, we are dealing with a non enthusiast here who will not service the car as we would, so a basic Japer would be ideal.

Yes. It was time consuming and the well priced cars seem to sell on "Turners online" for too much as the bidders are not aware of the cars true condition. Looking to spend 10k on something medium sized, asian with a tow ball. Nothing flash or sexy, just something reliable that she will get 10years out of and slowly run into the ground.. a non enthusiast you would say. Hyundai seem to be the best value vs Japanese brands. If anyone knows of a good hook up looking for a quick cash sale let me know.

Just wasted a couple of hours at Turners trying to buy the missus a new car.. end result was that they cost the same there as they do on TM and only marginally cheaper than a dealership. So. Where are the bargains at these days? Are there Auctions for dealers or people with cash? There must be as there is literally nothing on the bone if you buy at Turners.

Un expectedly been entered as a co-driver in a Targa Bambina next week. Was a pleasant surprise.

Retrospect is golden. The key is to know what to buy now and put in a shed. I like the car in the OP, very nice.

I vote M535i. It is the enthusiasts choice. They look cool, drive well, make a nice noise and are more original that the other two. The other two are just cars. At least spending money on a M535i will bring a return, the others will simply depreciate into the ground as fast as they fall apart. E34: M5 > M535i > 540IS. IMHO.

And yes, you will need new fuel injectors and a custom map made for it to work.
-
I know a lot of us Rally guys are having issues with it, mostly problems with it clogging injectors.. For it to work, the top teams will drain the tank after an even and run through 20 litres of 98 on a different map. General consensus is that it is a PITA. It could work better in a track racing situation as you are essentially doing sprints with the ability to service injectors in between races if needed be.

Nice. I use the Mothers stuff, works well but doesn't look as cool. Its cheap though, a big bottle like this lasts me a year, and I use it once a week I actually thought it was a type of chilly, now this stuff will clean other things out. Tried it once, was "taking the piss" hot. My tongue was sweating. http://firedragonchillies.com/shop/

Great find and purchase. I would keep it blue, would rock it, wear a blue suit and some Ray Bans. The interior will clean up nice with some suds and a bit of elbow grease. Maybe just tint the windows.

///Maybe his son was knocked off his feet when he looked that ///Much awso///Me on one car. Those wheel chair cars are seriously pricy though, like double the cost of the car they fitted too!

Yes. Because your average kiwi will think its just another BMW. Because, well, it will just be another BMW! Im so lost that there are actually new BMW's that I didn't know existed. I spotted a 435i 4-door the other day, I didn't even know they made a 4-door version of a two door version of a four door! So many models. But. I did spot a nice new X5 yesterday. Now that was an impressive looking car. Self park, as in a car that "valets" it self would be handy. I was reading that Mercedes already have self driving cars but they are not allowed to release them yet. Would be handy in morning traffic. Think of all the Facebooking/work you could get done on the way to work.

Funny. I was thinking that. What you want, is all that to be controlled via an app on your smart phone, who wants to carry around a big key? Also. My $20,000 Clio daily driver has a large touch screen nav and entertainment system powered by LG that is fantastic, much better than I-Drive on cars costing 10x that. About time they ditched this I-Drive sh*t and go full touch screen, we all use touch screen, it is mainstream. I-Drive is possibly the second dumbest thing BMW have done after SMG... I love how they take years to phase out their mistakes, bangle, smg.. now lets kill I-Drive please. Keen to see is this new 7 brings anything truly innovative to the segment, seems they are always way off compared to the S Class in innovation. Self park is nothing new either, Audi have been doing it for new 10 years in concept, its only lawyers that are holding it back, hell, Audi will have self driving cars available to the public in under 5 years. Cmon BMW. #hater.

I never drive carefully. This was my first car. No ABS, relatively low speed but middle of the night and pitch black with no road markers or corners signs, this was the 90's, haha, tight right hander just jumped out at me, hit the brakes and locked up instantly, car went straight... rolled 7 times, can still hear the crashes. Good fun. Worst thing was that my olds made me drive that horrible Commodore after that... oh and I had to get my ear sewn back on... but the Commodore was worse than the ear.

There are a couple of nice IS's floating around South Auckland. Both Red. Both mint. Both daily driven. When I see them I want to high five the drivers. And I would say, at this stage, the E30 has reached an age that any remotely well specked original E30 is desirable, to me, the variable is the options and the condition, if all is equal it comes down to personal preference. A manual transmission and 15" Basketweaves are always going to make it more desirable.
-
All I know about driving in Auckland can be summed up by the guy. f**k you all.
-
+1 for ABS. Near all crashed I had as a youngster... and not so youngster were from a lock up.

A tidy, 318i or 316i would be a great first car. Or a E36 318Ti. You know you will be the one who gets called up when it dies though. This is cool: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-873114116.htm

Australian steak seem better to me these days.. I know thats the wrong thing to say but some of the best "cheap" steak I have eaten was Ozzy rump or sirloin.
-
That burgundy SE is beautiful. Probably the nicest un restored E30 I have been in. That car is my "one that got away" car, I made an offer of $11,500 back then and rightly, the owner said he would rather see how the auction went. It was re advertised again recently and I have a feeling it would asap hands for closer to 20k these days. Will get another one day, next has got to be a Convertible or a SE Sedan for me, have had the Touring and a M325i, can't afford a M3.

Problem is its a FWD and not a lot different than the Mondeo. And the Mondeo is actually a bloody good car. Well its good at being a car for people who just want a car. Large interior. Economical Safe Fast enough Good handling Good interior and equipment. Good stereo that cranks. What more does a sale rep or middle manager need? Agreed. export is a none option. Its nowhere near where it would need to be for that. A shame they didn't design it with a world platform in mind way back then... keeping in mind the current Falcon dates back to the AU in architecture/platform. Thats more than 15 years old.

They look better, the transmission is not a bad thing, the V8's are grunty as is the turbo six. They are mechanically reliable and cheap to maintain and fix. They handle well vs a SUV of the same retail cost. The Australian and New Zealand auto journalists still give them a good rating, perhaps with a bit romantic empathy to the past. Unfortunately they are still built poorly, a mate runs new XR6's in his company and has had a few interesting warranty claims, one involved a complete respray, another a re upholster. They are cheaply built, O.K in the 90's but you can't offer that crap these days. Hence my British comment, they are like the last of that sort of quality. The driving position is still bad and the chassis still has far too much flex for a modern car, for example, it flexes more than a 20 year old BMW E39. On the upside, he has a large car that can comfortably fit 5 adults, leather seats, decent media system, nice 19" wheels, a tow ball with a capacity to tow his large boat, and the fleet discounts on buying a few of them are phenomenal, at what they cost him there really was no competition, even Commodores equivalent SV6 was over 10k more. With the likes of the new Mustang launching in NZ in factory RHD and priced very well, and other stuff in the range like a Focus, Modeo and fiesta, all world cars and class leaders, I can't see anyone missing them that much at all... bar the morbidly obese people who still need something they can roll in and out of. Falcon what??
-
How very British sounding. That paragraph sums up Ford Falcons of the last couple of decades. If people are going to buy them, they need to be better than that, they need merits of their own, a good reason to buy. The truth is, they are no longer relevant and can no longer compete when the competitors products are superior in almost every way (almost, discounting the performance bargain these cars are) if you want a large family car you buy a SUV or crossover or switch to cars like the Mondeo, a fantastic car in its own right. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge Ford fan, grew up in a ford family, my parents both drive new Fords and have owned many generations of Falcon.. but, thats a fond childhood memory, looked back on through an instergram filter. Dads XF Fairmont Ghia had cigarette lighters for the whole family with one in each door, now thats what they need to bring back, nothing says luxury like multiple cigarette lighters.. TBH, it would be handy for charging multiple devices.

I have no idea how that sh*t works on Tapatalk. I actually deleted the app because I was getting notifications every time someone liked a post on the forums I am on, was driving me nuts. How hot? How much is the flat?
