sounds good. your car will be an E90 not familiar with iDrive sorry, but there are plenty of members here that can help you with that/ Welcome to bimmersport

I have had two false starts doing this, once with an E30 316i, and second time with an E34 525i (Jasons old one) a much easier project than your ute project! but both times i keep forgetting I cant weld lol. My plan on both was to keep the boot compartment and put a BBQ in there, and then on the rear seats (removed of course) fit a fridge, so that there is more weight over the front of the axle etc. one day i will actually do it lol.

E30 are a great first car, try to get manual if you can, and avoid autos, especially 320i autos

get an E30

i bet your scrap metal dealer bends over backwards for you. Greg @ the Catman is one of two exporters with a Permit in New Zealand, so selling to anyone other than him is just them clipping the ticket. Thier facility is in Wellington just down the road from my work and home, but he has employees in Auckland and Christchurch, and has the rest of NZ covered with employees moving around. My company used to work with him extencively in the other side of his business (nothing to do with cats), but we have our own permit for that now

you can run the car without that fan clutch for the mean time anyways, just don't let it sit idling for too long. Getting your hands on one between now and January is going to be tough, but don't let it hold up progress, its not critical for engine running etc edit: actually have one i just checked my stash, its for the 4 bolt fan as opposed to the 3 bolt fan, which do you need? will keep hunting for a 3 bolt one if thats what you need, probably one here somewhere.

Wouldn't usually bump an old thread, but anyone got the above for coolant and other fluids at all? I used to have a bookmark link to page but that was on my last computer and haven't been able to find since. Cheers, Andy

Richard @ Bruce Thompson Motorbodies (he is the owner, must have changed hands at some point and didnt bother to update the name) Round here in Seaview You can mention I sent you if you want, Andy from IT Recycla. I heard that too, but if you do find him i sent some stuff his way back in the day, and he is good. Always good to support people that give back to the community where possible, even if it costs a little more. What goes around comes around.

engine earths on the lower right hand side by the bumper shocks, you will see an earth strap. Is that what you are asking? Pity someone didn't tell you to check the sensor in the first couple posts ;P

Yup just goes to show those that think the power of Facebook wont replace Forums are deluding themselves! Awesome meet, so gutted I wasnt quite ready to bring my V12 E34 through, failed WOF on a bulb and a leaky pentosin hose (for the brakes and steering, reasonably essential) that wasnt quite tight enough, not enough time to complete before i would have had to get on the road! Will be there for next one!!

Too late sorry. Wont be doing another one in the forseeable future, done them for 5 years now, supplied well over 200 sets, about 450 plates at last count. Time to hang up the keys to this thread. But someone else can pick up the can now if they want, I will put you in touch with my contacts etc for the better pricing, though he may take the opportunity to increase the pricing a bit anyways, i am still buying at the prices he gave me 5 years ago. Having said that: I do have plenty of the black type stickers here for these plates also some extra frames etc So for those of you that have brought before, you can send me a PM any time now or in the future and I can send you out some stickers. Sorry, no blue stickers available, as they are fitted by the German supplier, I only fit the black ones here. Hope this helps.

i find the Pelican site much easier to use, plus I am usually not buying just BMW parts, usually some things from another manufacturer too, eg some Volvo bits this time. Pelican cover all the big Euro names.

scrappys will give you overall weight and are accurate, they are calibrated monthly. of course they dont give you corner weights though. but thats free, well, you even get paid for because you have to take something down there!! A good alignment place, especially performance oriented places should have corner weight scales for setting up coilovers etc, your gunna have to pay for that one though!

whats the trim around the rear wheel arches inside the car, like right next to your butt on the edge of the seat. Sort of hard to describe. And also at bottom of B pillars near the floor. Is it all scruffy or ok
-
ok so you have an 88 or 89, maybe 1990 525i with an M20B25 engine. M20 is the series of engine, B means Benzine (Petrol), 25 is the displacement expresed in deciliters. That engine is also used in quite a few other BMWs, the E34 was the last chassis to use it before they moved to the M50 engine. Anyways..... the crank position sensor as its more commonly known over here bolts onto the block above the timing wheel on the front of the engine (in your year engine), and then the lead follows the timing case up and clips in near the thermostat, you will see two plugs. One is for the CPS, the other is for the spark sensor off lead 6. From memory, you cant get them around the worng way due to the design of the plug. The CPS sensor should show ~540Ohms +/- 5-10%, test it with a multimeter, they are a fairly common fail point due to thier location, particularly when the sump gaskets havent been changed etc. Once you know it is in spec, check for spark, if you are getting spark, then the CPS is working correctly, as is the DME (ECU in BMW speak). The M20 is overall a pretty basic engine, there isnt much to them, all the emissions crap on later model cars wasnt invented yet, and they still have the good old distrubutor spark system etc. Hope this helps. Would also strongly advise you put your location in your profile as well so we know where you are, and can tailor help to your location where necessary etc.
