  1. I neither love nor hate. Just what it would be worth to me. I was quoted $3k to do a head gasket on a 328i, so given some sort of M based parts price hysteria, I would think more. And at that mileage, while it’s apart, you may as well do everything, rings, bearings, vanish, etc etc.
  2. $8-10k for an engine rebuild? $1500 to tidy up the interior? What condition is the gearbox in? Then you have a 400,000 km M3? Worth $15k? Plus hassle, so $2k?
  3. What's that saying, "A cheap, reliable, fast car?" Choose two only.
  4. Like Pickapart. Have heaps of e46 stuff.
  5. Is this off the Ti? There were 4 at Zebra on Friday.
  6. There are 2.5 ones which are probably fun if they had a manual. But the 4 cyl ones are dying at a fast rate. Watched something on YouTube about old cars and how some had become desirable despite being thought of as crap when they were a dime a dozen, then saw 4 of these lined up being wrecked. I can’t see it myself, but you never know I suppose. I won’t mourn them.
  7. There are 9 at Zebra/Pick a part right now, there’s always at least one when I check on line. The 4 cylinder ones seem to be hopelessly unreliable, someone I worked with spent $6k on hers in 12 months, gave up and sold it for $3k (silly really, should have had at least 6 months of trouble free motoring left). Will they ever become loved or just fade away? And does the E90 320i face the same fate?
  8. Not really, another friend had a bf for 130,000k with zero going wrong. My uncle ran a Territory Turbo for 140,000k with nothing wrong either, but keep up the generalising.
  9. Great generalisation. I’ve done 74,000k in the Falcon and replaced the diff bush only apart from servicing. A mate is on his second Ranger, after 134,000k combined, he’s had a window regulator fail under warranty. 135i/335i owners please step up with “routine” maintenance.
  10. I did a 53m straight line (ish) twin wheel skid in the Falcon with an open diff. Gave up when I wasn’t sure I’d catch it Then bought new rears the following month. That was auto too @M3AN
  11. Try selling a car for over $20k, your pool of cash buyers is minute. Especially for something a bit challenging. Or you’ll get hit with “$20k cash bro?” On a car with an asking of $30k. Then there’s a slightly larger pool who are “keen as” if they can get finance. $5k for a dealer markup. Minus $1k for negotiations, minus $1k contingency for what they didn’t realise was wrong on the car they bought/traded, minus a bit more for overpaying on the trade in “its worth more than that bro” and let’s call it $2.5k. Minus 1/3 on tax. So if you can sell it in a month, you’ll still need to find another $800-1000 for the month to pay the groomer. Before you pay your rent, your salesmen and yourself. I’m no particular fan of dealers, but they have to make a living. I think they’ve over priced that ‘vert and will end up holding on to it for a while and probably the Byzanz one too. Is this the same dealer that had the ‘96 Schnitzer kitted 540i for sale for $29995 for about 5 years?
  12. Seems fair value for what I think is the only 4wd V12 made.
  13. I looked at them before my last car, 60kms NZ new and had had two hpfps, friend imported one and it needed it within 1500km, so it does occur here. Add vanos solenoids to the list.
  14. Sure, if it's no problem. I'm a month away from doing anything, but I always research (procrastinate) for ages before hand.
  15. Is that the one for sale in Chch? There’s a couple down there I think?

  17. Buy a polisher. It will remove marks you’ll most likely never move by hand.
  18. 540i M-sport / M540i / 540i LE[edit] 540i with "throwing star" wheels Because the M5 was discontinued for non-European markets in 1993, the 540i M-Sport model was built in 1995 for the North American market.[28] On top of the regular 540i features, additional features included sports suspension equipped with EDC, bolstered sport seats, servotronic steering, and US-spec M5 brakes.[29] 205 "M-Sport" models were built, 139 of them with the 6-speed manual transmission.[28] The M540i model was sold in Canada. It includes the features of the North American 540i M-sport, plus upgraded Euro-spec M5 brakes, 18-inch M-parallel wheels, and various trim pieces.[30] Only 32 of these cars were built, all with a manual transmission.[28] The 540i LE (ie. Limited Edition) sedan was sold in Australia[31] and the United Kingdom.[32] The 540i LE included the interior from the M5, "throwing star" M-System II wheels, EDC suspension with self leveling rear, Servotronic power steering, and front air dam. 70 of these 540i LE sedans were produced, all with a manual transmission, each individually numbered and identified by an engraved metal plaque stuck onto the centre console beneath the handbrake lever. Good old wikipedia, think 20(?) came here and I have seen a blue one with "is" on the badge.
  19. Yes and there is a section on TM too that shows if it was imported as damaged. Although interestingly, Primax Cars (one of the main importers of damaged) has that information unavailable on their TM listings but do declare it in the text.
