  1. After being out of the car scene for some time, I've decided to throw my hat back in the ring and create something fun to build and ultimately fun to drive. A user friendly budget would be a bonus but we'll see how that one pans out !! This will just be a fun street car so the aim is to have a mix of comfort, performance and looks. The car: A NZ new 2000 BMW 318Ci with 4 speed auto. Quite tidy generally with only a handful of the expected BMW "things that don't work no more" to resolve at a later date. Being under powered will hopefully mean no cracking around the subframe and minimal hard driving time etc on the body. The engine: A Nissan VQ37VHR from a 2009 Skyline 370GT automatic. 125k on it give or take so hopefully plenty of life left in it. Factory spec at 243kW which should be a solid upgrade over the cars stock 77 !! No plans for anything engine wise at the moment, must get mobile and legal first. Progress so far: The car is sitting with front end off, engine and driveline are out, rear interior and fuel tank etc removed. Have cleaned the underside to a reasonable standard and have welded in the CMP RACP reinforcement kit. Have cleaned and painted the 330 rear end components ready for reinstallation along with installing Powerflex bushes in most locations. Have created a rig to fire up and run the VQ37 on the ground which was a success and a lot of fun ... had the Nissan anti-theft (NATS) removed via UpRev and an ARC license installed at the same time. This was to validate that I can run the motor prior to install and working out the wiring later on when its more difficult. You can check the video here: Next Steps: REALLY keen to get the rear end back together so something is finished !! Will need to complete the welding in of the RACP to frame rails in the boot before the LVV certifier comes to check out my work. Once that's done I can get ready to stitch weld some other trouble areas then underseal and paint it all real pretty before installing the backend. Once the back end is together and looking slick I can finally turn attention to the pointy end and see if the engine is going to play nice. There will be a lot of work involved and a few options to investigate ... current thinking is it will be a custom oil pan and cross member at least. Steering rack may also be an issue. E46 330i Touring

E39 out, E46 in. Transported it up from Arrowtown last week, picked it up this week. 211,000km NZ New 2 previous owners. Last owner had it for 12 years/173,000km Known faults were the remote keys don't work and it has a vacuum leak under the intake manifold as diagnosed by an indy shop in Arrowtown. A few bits of service history but nothing significant. Fresh off the trailer: After talking to experts (forum members) I've started what looks to be a bit of a maintenance mission. Started with the PCV. It was dated as 2002 so original and very brittle. The oil return line disintegrated in half as I pulled out the dipstick tube. I left the manifold on in a bid to have a driveable car to pick my daughter up from day care in and in my haste I forgot to plug in a few things. Idle was smooth but it was real jerky and had a big dip in the throttle when you initially got on the gas. Scanned it and it came up with cam position sensor fault. So out came the airbox and it turned out I had forgotten to plug in the cam position sensor, alternator and something else...whoops...anyway, seems to be running alot better now. Revs are constant and it's not throwing misfire or rich codes. Did the classic air filter, cabin filter and oil + filter too. It's pretty oily down here... Pretty dusty up here.. ewwwww New stuff I went with 5W-40 just because I had 1.5L left over from the 540 so figured I might as well use it up. New Roundel. I got a cheap one off trademe last time and it wore really fast so went all in on the dealership one this time. Changed the plates over too. DQZ346 lives on. Things to do: - coolant system overhaul - vanos valve cover gasket oil filter housing gasket - New Disa valve (rebuilt) - Tints & chrome delete around the windows - Motor mounts - Get the remote locking working - Trans oil and filter Things I would like to do: - Tyres - Suspension Eibach prokit, Bilstein B4 shocks front and Sachs m sport rears - Xenons + black corner lights - Bluetooth hands free - Bavsound upgraded speakers Feel free to add to this never ending list ?

    E46 330CI

WTB!! Looking for a 330ci in relatively good condition that has WOF and Rego. Will pay top dollar for one in good condition or if it's a clubsport. Cheers!
  4. Hello there, I am currently on the hunt for a cheap daily. I am looking for something with current WOF and REGO ans something that won’t be needing a lot of work to maybe be a little nice. obviously needs to be running and driving. I am located in Auckland but anywhere in the north island shouldn’t be a problem. Unfortunately I am on a pretty low budget of around $3000, not really expecting something perfect at that price range so not pretty fussed about the condition as long as it meets my requirements stated above and is in dailiable condition. Looking forward to seeing what out there. Cheers, Stay safe.
  5. For the S54 experts out there, my 03.5 E46 M3 (SMG) has gone into limp mode. I've been told by the dealership to replaced and have replaced the ignition coils, spark plugs, egt, all of the O2 sensors, fuel filter, and fuel pump. The car still doesn't let me go past 3k rpm while on load. The car later let me go past the 3k rpm mark after I replaced a new fuel pump but it wouldn't let me go past the 4.5k mark while on load. The shift lights would craw up to the 4.5k mark like you're hitting the rev limiter. The car drives fine and limp mode would only kick in when I floor the accelerator pedal (while at or near the second click). Would drive fine again after shutting the engine off. No lights on the dash as well. I've spent thousands trying to fix this problem and they still couldn't fix it. Would this be anything related to the TPS? Asked them about it a few times but they told me that they couldn't identify any fault codes.
  6. Hi Everyone I'm urgently after a BMW 320i e46 2.2l 2001 M54B22 engine, complete with block, sump, head, etc. I bought my e46 in pristine condition, had it for 8 months now, and suddenly lost power, using water, etc. took it to my mechanic who discovered that the previous owner had removed the head, replaced the head gasket, over tightened the head, didn't use a torque wrench probably, and subsequently 3 of the studs ripped came loose, ripped the thread, blowing the new head gasket, sending oil in the water and vice versa, and completely screwing the motor up Thought this to be unreal as the car had only done 128,000km when I bought it, and only done 6,200km since... Breaks my heart having spent so much money on a nice looking car that looks mint but the previous owner didnt tell me what he did to it. So if anyone has a motor lying about, I'm desperate guys... got the $ to pay for it, just need the Beemer back on the road... cheers and thanks muchly Marc
  7. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/m3/listing/2692817821 '02 E46 M3 with 45KMs ... yes nice example and low KMs but $70K?
  8. For those that want High quality Bluetooth audio (and phone kit) with decent integration to the standard audio systems in Ibus cars.. Check this out: Bluebus I’ve just installed this to my E46 and it’s everything the forums and reviews are harping on about! let me know if you have any questions..
  9. Hey guys first time posting on here. So I’ve owned my 318i 2004 e46 for almost a year now and I knew this was a common problem but now my wof is coming up and I’d like to sort it out. My passenger airbag light comes on when there’s someone sitting in the passenger seat and I’m wondering how I go about sorting that out cheers that’s. Also it has had a scan recently because I got the crank angle sensor replaced and the airbag fault did not come up. Cheers Kody
  10. So i have a question about the e46 key what i bought from ali express... how do i need to assemble these parts i dont know where to place the black transponder in the key. Thanks in advance
  11. Hi team. I’m just trying to solve the problem with my E46 320i M54B22 and the engine light came on. I’ve scanned the codes and there’s a bank 1 and 2 fuel bank trim and also all six cylinder misfiring. I’ve had my air intake boots replaced and all the vacuum lines are replaced as well, no leaking from valve cover as I’ve replaced one this week. O2 sensors are quite new as well. The car doesn’t stall or idle rough either. My guess is could be a CCV system failure which I’m going to replace them very shortly but I just want to ask for your opinion of what else causes to all cylinder misfiring? Please and thank you very much in advance.
  12. Been having massive oil leak from my daily for awhile. Brought my car to a local mechanic that build Honda and Bmw race cars last week and was told that the sump gasket was leaking. Spent 1.1k to fixed it along with a new oil and filter change (I provided the oil). Found out the car is still leaking the night i took it back from them. Thought it was just the gasket running in but it leaks like crazy the day after some spirited driving. Brought it back today, took them nearly two hours to check. Not minding that they wasted some of my petrol keeping the engine on for like 40 minutes. End result they told me that the rear main seal is causing the leak, will be a $800 job. They told me it wasn’t leaking when they checked the car while replacing the sump gasket earlier. Am I just unlucky or what should I do about it.... Sorry fellows, this sounds like a rant tread?
  13. Hi for the trackday goers out there, I’m just wondering what kind of fire extinguisher mount you guys use in your E46. Diy, if so could you kindly tell me how? Oem or some other aftermarket alternatives. Cheers
  14. Has anyone had problems with warning lights coming up after their airbag replacements on a free recall? I've had the airbag light come on before I even left their premises and they have charged me $1000 to fix this and now within half an hour of leaving the premises with a new clock spring replacement they say they didn't damage I now need a DSC module for $1800 plus installation. Can this be damaged through a spike or similar when they did the original replacement airbag and clock spring. Help I feel I'm being had. The original documentation from BMW with the airbag recall was there were no faults prior.

  19. Just wondering if any one has gone from standard headlights to xeons? And what is required. From a 328ci to a 2000 330ci
  20. So I picked up my latest project yesterday, it made for an interesting drive back from Napier... Was stolen, presumably thrashed, recovered and then sold to myself at Turners. You put your foot down, the RPMs increase, then drop then start increasing along with your speed. If you floor it the RPM increases as you'd expect but nothing else really happens, then you start to move, in the upper RPM range it seems to be better (presumably everything is loaded up at this point). There is a large disconnect between the throttle/RPM and the speed, feels like driving an auto that you can stall. After the last and particularly slow hill on my way home I could smell what I assume to be clutch (a kind of burnt smell, similar to that of a train braking hard), my guess is the flywheel is stuffed which is proceeding to cook the clutch at lower RPMs. Assuming my diagnosis that I'm up for a clutch and flywheel is correct, what suggestions do people have? Clutch I'm thinking e34 M5 and flywheel I'd like the cheapest (but still adequate option), undecided on DMF vs SMF. This is a road going convertible so not looking for some insane race clutch and ultra light flywheel
  21. carbon fiber bootlid for E46 coupe model BMW only. Not sedan or other. Used but in great condition. Has been used on my E46 for about a year. Great fitment also. Has UV coating. Comes with liner, clips, license plate screws, electric bootlid handle, badges, lock mechanism (latch) Needs reverse lights, key lock barrel and an E46 coupe, preferable 330ci ?? those will complete it perfectly. Paid $1300 on shipping costs alone. Comes with everything in photos. Ask for details I would much prefer pick up since the box is large. But could look into shipping costs if really needed. Pick up Hamilton or Cambridge Price for the forum $1500. Have on trademe at $1800 buy now.
  22. I've just had my oem msport springs put back in my e46, replacing my h&r springs and the passenger side is sitting higher than driver side. Shop reckons it's ok from an install pov that its level and well aligned. The car drives really nice(prefer the feel of oem spring) but looks odd. Any other e46 owners, mechanics etc out there seen this before? Car hasn't had this issue before when springs where in there previously and has koni yellow shocks so is not likely a bung shock issue. Cheers Ben
  23. Hi there, I’m new on this forum. I have a 318i 2002. I’m having a issue in automatic transmission. When I start to drive the car after a cold start, rpm suddenly goes bit higher. Then the transmission error occurs and shifts are becoming hard. Can feel them really hard. However, once I stop the engine and restart the car, this error and hard shifts go away. Car would shift as normally. Does anyone have idea on what could be the issue? Could it be a bad MAF? No check engine light so far. And I did change the transmission fluid and filter as well. But still issue is there. Thanks in advance.
  24. E46 Clubsport 2005 (Facelift) Velvet Blue (BMW individual) Steptronic Napa Black leather interior Cubic silver trim 210kms Slightly higher rev limit to other e46's (ZHP) with an extra 5-10hp I've heard due to the exhaust cam having larger lobes, feels peppier than other 330s also. Airbags replaced already as per recall etc. Stickers in boot for those. Have replaced most things in the past two years of owning to bring it back up to a nice standard. Sitting with BC coilovers brand new, months old (with BMW reinforcement plates on all 4 towers) no cert currently. New radiator, thermostats, vac lines, intake boots, steering rack replaced, front disks, rocker gasket, trans gasket/filter and new fluids for everything even washer fluid ?, diff oil, disa valve, brand new coils, spark plugs (NGK), fuel pump & filter and a bunch more items bushes etc. Rear bumper repainted (recent chip ?), front still needs to be done and mirrors clearcoat. Spent 5k on OEM parts so hard to recall without looking at the receipts now, not including BC coils and carbon boot. Happy to sell the car with or without the BCs and carbon boot. Has carbon strut brace also(not pictured). Previous owner tinted windows 35% Did water pump and couple other items I recall. Have all receipts for every item. Has the 6disc changer in boot also have wired in an aux and have a Bluetooth DAC connected to that in the glovebox for wireless audio. Aux/Bluetooth Works while playing blank CDs perfectly. There are chips and a couple small dents as age and KMs. Ask me questions happy to answer. Looking for $11k with the BCs and carbon boot. With just stock items looking for $8,5k hit me up happy to chat. Taken my personal details off since sold. Have two sets of rims so can choose OEM or silver unknown brand if like. Or both if price right. In no rush as I have a second car and looking for the most I can reasonably get to fund new dream. photos are with stock suspension except 4,5th
