7 pointsBMW M6 GT3. In 2016, the BMW M6 GT3 will replace the BMW Z4 GT3, which has been in action since 2010. The new car is powered by a 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, which has been modified for use in motor racing. The power train has dry sump lubrication and generates up to 585 hp – with the whole car weighing less than 1,300 kilograms. Further technical characteristics of the BMW M6 GT3 are the drive concept, six-speed sequential racing transmission, and high-performance motorsport electronics. The aerodynamic properties of the chassis have been optimised in the BMW wind tunnel. The engineers worked meticulously to fine-tune the BMW M6 Coupé, which formed the basis for the new car and was already perfectly suited to outings on the racetrack. Priority was given to ensuring maximum driver safety. To offer the drivers of the BMW M6 GT3 as much protection as possible against the effects of an accident, BMW Motorsport itself developed and produced the FIA-approved safety cell in accordance with the very latest safety standards. The engineers also placed great importance on efficiency and ease of maintenance, as well as reliability, which is particularly crucial at the 24-hour classics. The development of the BMW M6 GT3 incorporated all the experience that BMW Motorsport gained with the car’s successful predecessor, the BMW Z4 GT3. For example, the new GT3 racing car boasts many improvements, particularly when it comes to driveability and economy. The positioning of the driver’s seat towards the centre of the car and the long wheelbase make driving the BMW M6 GT3 a unique experience in the world of motor racing. The net price for the car is 379,000 Euros.

4 pointsI dunno, I really liked the 17" Alpina clones on my E30 I have a Mtech E30 wheel in decent condition in my closet if your interested 333, but it looks like you already have bought that "improved" one End of the day, its your car do whatever you want. Just a personal request - No M3 badges or altezza tail lights

4 pointsThis one's cleaner than the other for sure, but that's because it's all been apart recently and cleaned. Vanos adjustment units need to be removed in the next few days to get to this leak. Found one of the oil rails munted a bit. Where it's dented oil flows through to lubricate each cam bearing journal.

3 pointsRegardless of the asking price if you are selling a car of that age, people want to see what sort of condition its in, and if you dont put up decent photos most will assume the worst and not bother to follow it up. A photo of an old photo of a car is pretty much a waste of time on a trade me auction. My 2 cents.

3 pointsWhat am I doing in at work at 3.30 am on a Wednesday morning ?? - looking for the expensive optical cable for the new UHD TV and sound system being delivered today. I purchased all the new cables 2 weeks ago when I ordered the TV & sounds. Removed all the old home theater, DVD player and VHS unit and cables and got the lounge all prepared for the new gear. Unpacked all the cables and the new type surge box and threw all the "empty" boxes in the bad bin at work last week------found the bitch under about 2 weeks worth of rubbish. There is probably a word that would describe this. I'm not sure if this should be a rant or the funny story for the week. Looks like RCA cables are redundant now. Just optical, HDMI, Bluetooth & Wifi. It gets expensive when you just intended to upgrade one item. A bit like stripping a car to do a water pump and end up doing water pump, thermostat, radiator, expansion tank and hoses. ....... any way Harvey Norman loves me

2 pointsVery insightful and inspiring. Granted I may have paid maybe a couple of k more but it was a single lady owner who brought it from Germany to Japan, could not wait for their colour so therefore re sprayed it. BM workshop explained that was quite common then as Europeans had long waiting lists in Japan and many were not patient. It is extremely difficult to find a one owner with good service history not the rubbish Midas or mates workshop nonsense, lol. I am more looking for aesthetic improvement and I wanted an excellent body so I can upgrade everything including maybe engine but body is not so flawless and easy to change. 7 years 20 E30s? How come ? You have captured my curiosity. BTW everyone is just sharing their critical opinion, in my Industry it is important to be full of passion when it comes to creative expression, therefore I can't say any if negative feedback will really not phase me but spur me on even more. Unique originals don't come from sheep following sheep rather one individual thinking laterally and addressing an opportunity in a different way then what the masses would normally, boringly do.... Here is a good example of one guy.... enjoy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1 pointTook this thing for a B road blat this afternoon, with the windows down. Awesome. The N52 is a real pearl of an engine, makes just the right noises with BMW performance exhaust, without being loud. Loads of induction roar down low, and snarling exhaust up high Gearbox is heavy and notchy to start with, but the ratios are just right, and it pulls hard right to the redline, the actual in gear acceleration is definitely rapid enough to have some fun. Steering is tight, and car feels very agile. Ultimate driving machine... for when you need a hatchback Its even started to look less funny looking, some angles actually look good

1 pointI don't think anyone is trying to burst your bubble, rather they're trying to ensure you don't get ripped off. It sounds like you have a healthy budget to modify this car but if you do your research and follow some of (but not necessarily all) the advice you get on this and other forums then you'll get a lot more bang for your buck. A good example is the steering wheel you bought. As members have pointed out, that is a very common SE spec steering wheel that has been reshaped and recovered. If you paid close to $1500 for it then realise you could have bought one locally for less than $50 and had it recovered/customised at an upholsterer. Doing that would have saved you well over a grand to put towards other modifications. Remember, no matter how lofty your modification goals there's nothing you can do to an E30 that hasn't been done before. Research, research, research and learn from others' mistakes and triumphs. You'll save a lot of money in the long run. Good luck with your project.

1 pointShifter AND Gearbox mount, which makes it obvious. Not that I recommend it, but I got away with VTNZ WOF's 3 times with the M52. If you use all the right bits it just looks OEM.
-
1 pointYes the gearbox fits, I don't know about driveshaft / linkage though from what I have seen the m40 sits more forward being a shorter engine and would have a longer driveshaft / linkage.. But there is a small amount that can be adjusted in the spline center of the driveshaft so who knows. I have done 2x swaps, one with a Getrag 240 from a 318i - One with a Getrag 220 from a e36 318i and both instances used 320i linkage and driveshaft, I never tried 318i stuff however.

1 pointi have Bridgestone RE002s on my E34 too, which are no longer made an superceeded by RE003 Running 235/45R17 on the front and 255/40R17 on the back, the back doesnt kick out on the power with the V12 driving it. Even tracked on them this time last year.

1 pointI admire you keeping your spirit up amongst all these people bashing your decision. I got all the same bullshit and all the hate as above when i brought my first E30, a 4 door tech 2, 7 years later and about 20 E30s later i am still here I will admit i too think you over paid, but the value is always in the eye of the person paying the price, it is obviously the correct example for you. the car itself seems to be fine from what I can see, 4 door tech2s are far rarer than 2 door tech2s anywhere in the world. The value will always be less than a 2 door, but when you are planning to heavily modify a car the arguments above about future resale etc is totally irrelevant. Its very common for Kiwis to be totally blinded by the market value of their vehicle when making decisions be it maintenance or modifications. Its why a 200,000km vehicle is a kilometre away from the scrap heap here. I can't wait to see the progress on this car! Not many heavily modified E30s in New Zealand, particularly road legal ones.

1 pointThanks very much Mr Dwarf... you are the first to substantiate an opinion with a reference to a place where I can look at what you recommending I thank. I appreciate everyone's views but guys I want to do this so rather than burst my bubble help me along... I will say this no matter what it cost it will be worth it to the buyer in the future in the USA, lol! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1 pointRob has a facelift. In my opinion, waste of time buying consumables like these second hand, unless you are just wanting to pass the car on or keep it on the road for as little as possible, both of which are senarios i know don't apply to your car Rob! Repco and SCA etc do not stock the correct ones, they will have a listing if you ask, but trust me they are wrong, they do not have the spark sensor thing in them. BMW have them at $600 a set or something stupid like that. Try Euro Italian, Milland, etc, or import from the likes of Pelican parts if you have a shopping list.

1 pointWow, that things f*cked! Keep the wheels, manual kit, LSD, engine & loom, steering wheel. Buy a gallon of gas and a box of Beehives and turn the rest into ashes! Or be 'environmentally responsible' and send the rest to the scrappers.

1 pointGuesses lead to dumb mistakes. Chances are whoever did the conversion probably swapped the diff too. Stick your nose under the car and read what the tag on the diff says. If theres no tag, get the ass of the car up on stands, make an indicator mark with chalk from the driveshaft through to the diff housing and another at 12 o'clock on a rear wheel. slowly turn the driveshaft through one complete revolution and have a buddy count how many times the wheel turns. 3.64:1 = 3.64 revolutions of the output to the input, output being wheel where input is driveshaft. 3.07, 3.15 & 3.23 ratios can be a little hard to decipher using that method but it'll be close enough to get an accurate idea. Oh, and it will also help to know which gearbox was used in your car too.

1 pointEasy... 2 of them. Picked up this tidy NZ-New 99' M5 today. Done 148,000kms. Ex Owner had it for 9 years with an extensive service history.

1 pointThey be Genuine Was Exactly the same and even had the BMW logo on the light bulb adaptors. Magneti Marelli / Automotive Lighting are the OE providers of lights for the E46 from Research and my purchase confirmed it so no cheap stuff used here!

1 pointIt's nice you are trying to help a friend but I agree with pretty much everyone else here. I find it pretty funny as well as very sad that it has become acceptable to beg for money for things like this. Dignity goes pretty much down the toilet, but that doesn't seem to mean much these days as long as you can get a dollar. Nothing personal against your friend.
-
1 pointI know you are trying to be a GC here but I would rather donate money to the spca or some wildlife protection charity. Humans have all the means possible to not put themselves into these situations.
-
1 pointAt least give some photos of the burnt remains, assuming there's actually a car behind this story. Your mate isn't gonna get sympathy here. Should've had insurance, sh*t happens
-
1 pointI thought these online donations were more for people with out of the ordinary problems, like health complications beyond their control & couldn't afford the costs associated. I'm sure everyone would love a donation towards their car projects. I know I would.

1 pointOne of the first cars I customised was a 59 Morris Minor van. My father and I spent hundreds of hours restoring the body and upgrading the suspension to Vauxhall disks and independant jag rear. Then a 3lt V6 and 5 speed gearbox went in. Custom paint and interior. Loved that car. Similar thing happened and I had a fire in the engine bay which totaled the car. Undaunted(well maybe a bit) I wanted to save my beloved van but it was cost prohibitive. To cut a long story short I took a second job and saved and scrimped on everything for a year so I could afford to bring my van back. This is what your friend should be doing. Not relying on the goodwill of others to fund his repairs. Yeah, I feel for his loss but if he works for it himself he'll appreciate it more in the long run.
-
1 pointAm I the only one that thinks this listing seems a bit suspect? Surely if you're trying to flog a car for 60 grand you'd at least take a couple photos to show its condition?!
-
1 pointGood luck, alternatively get married, get a mortgage or two if your in Auckland, fill in a few years and then tell me your dream is still alive

1 pointThe best factory E36 options IMO is the factory half leather sport seats. Had them in my first 36.

1 pointYou're right - they won't fit the W126. Well, they can, but you'd need to use spacers and that's something I prefer not to do. However.... They will fit on my 190E. I'd not thought of going the larger diameter rims route, but may just do that.

1 point200 bucks isn't that expensive. Don't need jumper leads, or find another car to jump off. I'm getting one just to stash in the poleski as my last adventure I ended up swimming down the Waikato river at 9pm in the dark because of a flat battery. I would of happily spent 200 bucks at the time to avoid that!
