If I bought a set of Louis Vuitton luggage, the first thing I'd do is buy some fake Louis Vuitton badges and stick them on it.

Long time no post... I've not had a lot of time to love the car recently... But since I've got a new job now and a regular income the projects can start again... I'll be getting my 17" wheels refurbished soon so I can fit some track tyres - I'm not sure if I can get that sorted before Christmas but it'll be as soon as Jan if not. In the meantime I've just taken delivery of 6 metres of "M Rain" fabric and some Alcantara for my interior overhaul project... I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to do but it will cost thousands - fabric was >$1000, I'll need a set of Recaros and then the upholstery costs will be sky-high I'm sure - eek! But this is very, very high quality fabric.

Over the road from me there is a guy who owns an old MX5 with a horrible sounding exhaust (even for an MX5). We have nick named him 'Throttle Response'. As he likes to blip the throttle between 5 and 10 times as fast as possible when exiting and entering his driveway. I wish his shitty little car would die already.

A very nice fellow(Xboss) in the US who has been watching my thread on Bimmerforums sent me these a while ago. They where prototypes and had no clips on the back and no holes in the homelink panel. He gave them to me to see if I could do something with them. So I spent the day very very carefully attaching some metal clips I made and cutting holes in the homelink panel for the mic and sunroof switch. Have to say the result was stunning. Heres the old panel for comparison. lol And heres the panel I was sent sitting in place. And there's usually a leather covered panel under the center console armrest. Here's the one he gave me. His workmanship is incredible. He's now doing piano black finishes with chromeline edging as well as the wood finished panels which now come with clips already attached. Heres a link to his thread if anyone's interested. http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2085016-Wood-home-link-panel-prototype-is-finally-done

Got the front end mostly finished for now, will come back to the brakes. XYZ suspension setup and installed as well as some new Nolathane sway bar bushes and links. Also purchased my steering shaft parts from Summit Racing, all Flaming River products, had to cut to length and drill the shaft, very happy with how it turned out. Rolled it out for some sun today.

Spent many hours on my E38 this weekend getting it all legal and ready for ECC meet next weekend. Since i have got it the back has bounced all over the place, so got some second hand rear struts off Dave and put those in, what a difference. Sure they are probably getting a bit tired, but some shocks is better than nothing! Next time I do it ill do the H&R/Billy combo Also replaced front brake pads, very easy on this car, it has the factory 4 pot Brembo calipers, you dont even need to remove the caliper just two pins to knock out the side and away. spend more time jacking the car and taking the wheels off Replaced left lower arm, wof fail, boring Tighted up right front shock, bolt in backwards from previous owner, knuckle was sitting loosely in the strut tube, i highly doubt it could ever fall out but i never would have spotted that underneath, I doubt a normal mechanic would either, was VTNZ that found it since they use the wheel shaker machine over the pit you can see all front suspension moving very well. Then realised I didnt have a compatible brake pad wear sensor so rang around, found one today at Repco Masterton, so that was excuse enough to mission over the hill to check the car is all tickety boo for the run to Auckland on Saturday. front suspension fixes has also made the steering wheel sit dead straight too instead of slightly to the left Car handles very well for such a big car, but the new limitation is the tyres, Will have to buy some for the front at least this week I think, I just dont feel safe with them. Back can wait, its only a 728 and has ASC so its never going to even think about slipping in the back. But its a big heavy car, needs good grip for turning and braking in the back. Sorry for long post. Dont have a project thread for this car as while its getting attention like its just another car from me, its still a hack in my mind i guess! Dont get me wrong i really love the E38, but just not sure the one i fall in love with should be a 728i lol.

So after deciding that I'd rather keep an E30 touring than a sedan long term, I set out to look for one. Ended up getting the 320i that had been for sale in Wellington since the start of the year. It seemed in reasonable shape, with no leaks (water into the car), fairly straight, and aside from the rust in the tailgate, there was no other rust in the normal E30 places, so it sounded like a good buy (with well looked after touring being hard to find), and being manual, would be easy enough to swap an M20B25 in later. Driving it back home, got into Taupo, it started making a nice rattling noise, just under 1500RPM. Since I'd managed to get that far and fearing the worst, just babied it home, and got back to Hamilton without it blowing up. Taking a look under the distribution rotor, it looks as though the belt tensoner needed replacing, and the belt was walking it way off (that's rubber), which put a bit of a downer on the purchase. The next weekend, the wife decided that she wanted a wheelbarrow, and the touring was well suited to the task. Then not too much later on, the alternator wore out, and that needed to be replaced too. So with both those issues in mind, I decided to replace it... with an M52B28. Managed to pick up an E36 328i with a blown trans for a good price, so pulled the motor out of that. E30 eyeing up it's new heart. At this stage, just waiting to save up a bit more money to order a bunch of new parts (water pump, clutch, etc) for the swap. Reading up online, it sounds like the G240 gearbox will bolt up to the engine, though being from behind an M20, it will bolt up on an angle like the G260 gearbox. Does that sound right?

    On holiday in Bali I spotted this new model and took secret photos specially for bimmersport members. It features a new design, on a lighter weight chassis with special racing wheels. Even the badges have been replaced with a painted on version all in a quest to save weight. Teaser photos below;

Reminds me of the BMW Civic I saw in Thailand, although it was just badges, no dodgy bodywork... https://www.dropbox.com/sc/ofyqyb6vjgpad5v/AAAWlH9i7zv2jl5wS_9uH7Yca (Hard to see the badge in the pic though)

In for Piano black pictures. I like the wood everywhere in mine except for around the gear stick, would prefer that was flat black plastic like normal trim, its the only wood in mine that isnt around the edge of dash and doors, and looks out of place Wouldnt mind a 16:9 screen too........

Drats, I was hoping I could just use this box, albeit at the wrong angle and having to mess with the linkage. Yeah Andy, this was Ian's one.

What you need is a great big water tank for the windscreen washer in the boot then like the 850i. You might wonder why they didn't try and make the front a bit lighter instead of compensating with extra weight... But who cares cos it feels awesome!!!!

Having driven them all(except the 730i) the 740i is still my favorite. Luv the torque of the 750i but that big donk in the front gives it a different feel to the sportier 740i. I feel a lot more confident throwing the 740i around the corners than I do in the 750i.

Looks good Dave. Gotta say though - I'm in favour of the 16:9 screen over the 4:3. Changed ours in the E39 many years back. Did take a little getting used due to losing the wood trim to but i wouldn't go back now.

I like what seems to be a missing lug nut on the front left wheel - really paying attention to detail with the weight saving.

I thought that this one, as a factory 320i manual, would have the G240, but with a different bellhousing to suit the M20? Love your build, aiming to end up where you were before your most recent swap. Cheer Blair, was reading up on yours, didn't realise you started with a 320i also. Your's sounds like it will be good too, based on your previous E30.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=987670481 I regrettably need to sell my 1974 BMW 2002 Tii race car to make room for my latest purchase. The TM listing has history and details. Could easily be returned to road car if required. Please text or call with any questions. The car is for definite sale and needs to be gone by Xmas. Cheers Peter

Love that material!! You could try re trim it yourself if you have LOTs of time I just gave re trimming a spare steering wheel a go for test purposes over the weekend. Not totally perfect but found some ways to improve it. Of course one has to learn by doing first.

I appreciate the work and effort involved. But what the hell is the obsession in NZ with ripping out anything BMW/Mercedes and replacing it with RB's and JZ's etc.

nice ride , they normally leak from behind the oil filter housing , the o-rings go hard . check that 1st before doing the crank seal , common mistake . oil always goes down and back see here . part 5 http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E36-Compact/Europe/318ti-M44/R-A/mar2000/browse/engine/lubrication_system_oil_filter/ http://ills.bmwfans.info/rp.png

It's just too awesome and hard to relate to. I'm sure if skintkarter did something wrong people would share. But everything is awesome. From the parts choices, custom fabrication, custom tools(the swage tool is beautiful), and that fuel system. Pretty much it's all very inspiring and i'm getting a bit repetitive.

I'm Jelous. Had to drop my son over to Halcome yesterday. Parked on the side of the road are 2 740i's, 2 750il's a E36 328i coupe and a 850i all in the same driveway. I stopped and knocked on the door but nobody was home. I'm wondering what BMW they where out in..lol I'll be heading back in a few days so will stop in again. Wanted to take a pic or 2 but didn't feel right taking pics of someones house and driveway. I'll ask if theres someone home next time. Was a nice collection though.
