After being bailed into the passenger seat and enthusiatically being taken around the track for a 1:15 laptime with James at the wheel. James chuck me the keys and I went out at the end of the session. It felt like a natural change from my e30/s50 to this so my learning curve wasnt too steep... not quite having the same confidence as james' 160kph power slide around turn 6 I can say this thing allows you to reaaaaly push it and still feel like your safely doing what you want. Its a really amazing chassis. With some race seats + suspension tweaks and lightening up .. I cant see much touching it on the handling vs power front

Its the most sensible car ive ever owned! Plenty of room for kids, safety up the wazoo, good for towing, better economy than a v10 M5!

Latest project for the 740i is 750il disks and calipers. Turns out the disk that came with them aren't within spec so are no good for re surfacing and I'll have to buy new ones. In the mean time I've been painting the calipers. Decided to go with the same color as the car. Navarraviolet. Hard to get a good pic without them looking brown.

I like them. Wheels could be improved upon though.

Yup. Although the metal brake pads disagree. Over too soon too. Where did the evening go?

This thing is truly a weapon. Would not recommend eating lunch just before going in it with James around Hampton.

First outing in E36 was a success. Started with 1:18's with the street tyres, then fitted slicks and started doing 1:14's. Then took passengers and was doing 1:15's. Top speed was only 205km/h (1340kg) without passengers and 198km/h (1420kg) with passengers. With an actual tune (currently got an ebay one that runs rich) I expect to gain a lot of power through the middrange to bring it back to where it was before the rebuild (swapped ECU's), plus removing all the trim and cutting some weight out should drop ~150kg, this should see a top speed of ~225km/h and use of 6th gear down the straight. What a mission it was to drive with slicks without a harness and a race seat, there was probably another second or two to gain from being thrown all over the place. Best sectors had me doing a 1:13.0 but I was unable to string a perfect lap together. The car is way to stiff, it was lifting both inside wheels coming out of the sweeper, on one lap I even managed to take it with a minimum speed of 115km/h around the sweeper and turn one. Don't have a video of when using slicks as the camara kept getting torn off the mount, but it was ok with road tyres Bonus for the evening was that I stood on it all evening and the water temp stayed at 80c, no oil leaks or anything went wrong.

Can those CSL reps with chunks out of them be certifiably repaired safely? If not you probably shouldn't be selling 'em... IMHO.

So swapped my manual rear windows to electric ones today. Documented the process over here: http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/54729-e30-touring-electric-rear-window-conversion/?p=590648 Then since the seats were out, decided to pull out the carpet. Unsurprisingly, the carpet was a bit damp. But surprisingly, there was no rust in the floor pan. Have left the carpet to dry out, and will wait for that to happen before swapping the seats in.

i wonder if by "fastidiously maintained" they are actually referring to the $1500 spent on tyres and brakes..?

Was that debadged with a pinecone? Looks like the base paint was pretty good though, can turn into a big job when you need to polish a small area but it turns out the rest of the car has noticeably sh*t paint afterwards...

So had an awesome day with the ECC crew at the meet & cruise today. Only just got my wheels sorted the morning of the event after a multiple air leaks. Big thanks to my muscular mate Dion for the assistance of removing tyres There was a great turn out today at asb show grounds I won best wheels which was a great testament the all the work my mates and my partner put into them to get them ready such short notice. So really pleased. So here are some photos Some are abit crap been so busy
