Thanks for the suggestions guys, certainly plenty of food for thought. I`m inclined to go for the more modern motors rather than the old dinosaur powerplants. Mainly because we have a pretty good selection. Looking at S54,M54B30,N52B30 or N54B30

Got back from the annual holiday, 1500kms in the wife e36 328i , can't believe that it achieved 700kms on a tank, 4 up with the boot filled to within one wafer of capacity. Non M suspension soaked up the bumps well. Might scrap the x5 replacement idea of another year ....

If you wanted a v8 one why not start with a v8? I reckon stick with an i6 or go with a v10.

Not a huge fan of BMW designating every car and the owners dog as M and also not a huge fan of the size of some of the newer cars but DAMN I'd love that twin turbo V12 with all it's 600hp in my E38. Would certainly make for a fun drive..lol https://www.bmwcca.org/news/bmw-announces-v12-powered-2017-bmw-m760i

This is Arild Martinsen's 4x4 M3 from 1988 in action. Well, it started life as an M3, and then received an X-trac transplant - hence the 4-bolt rims. The engine is M10-derived... Whether that means it is the original S14 or even an M12, I don't know. It does have a heffin' great turbocharger bolted to it, helping make 700bhp. It's safe to say it goes a bit. https://youtu.be/5g8eoT0M2sI

Have to agree with this, if you could make the colours 'pop' and bring the violet out more. A tip I was given was sunrise/sunset are the best times to take photos as they bring the colours out. But nice car nonetheless. Is the kit standard?

A bit of destruction on a sunday arvo. RIP 3rd gear.

Whilst I agree the tints are a bit too dark, I don't think I'll be removing them unless I'm forced to (police or wof issues). It adds to the aggressive look and the lights are basically normal brightness so not such a safety issue. Thanks for the feedback, hopefully I'll get around to plasti dipping soon!

If we go M5 I do have a spare S62. But then that is better suited to a E46 M3. A stroked S54 would be a better option: https://store.vacmotorsports.com/vac---s54-34l--35l-premium-stroker-kit-p757.aspx This is just a sideline project while we gear up for our E46 M3 S65 project so trying to keep things relatively easy.

I'll be hoping that the option you choose will have more kw/hp than the S38 from the original E34 M5.

Aha!! I have a full wiring kit for an e46 Touring... which could go well with the towbar above!! A proper Westphalia one, not a cheapy couple of relays, etc..

Cheers Darren, Met yourself, Hans and there was another BS member I had a chat with but I've forgot his name (old age) sorry. The first 5 cars in your photo were all very sociable friendly bunch. Next time we'll have to get Hans away from the prestige guys It was a superb day, great weather and we all left the track with cars in tack.

Went to the Shannon car show in the 740i and met up with some of the Welly and Palmy guys. Then had a nice drive up the Saddle rd and a hoon on the way down..lol Awesome day. Thanks to Olaf for organizing.

Another 100km on track at Hampton downs today, best was a 1.24.5 lap Need to change fluid, pads, rotors and lines as brakes feel f**ked. Will get rid of aircon/looms/sunroof and tidy up driving and hoping for a 1.21 at least
