2 pointsRealised how knackered the rear tyres have become! RE002's will have to be replaced with RE003's now. Perfectly even wear though - not super common on an E39, but rebuilt rear end (no worn joints) AND an alignment guy who actually knows what he's doing, and listens to what you want - I run way less camber than the Motorsport suspension specs say, and he set it up for even wear. 2 pointsIf you're doing mostly urban and a bit of motorway probably around 15l/100km. All urban ~17l/100km. Plenty of figures on the web. My older E53 4.4i X5 is 15-17 with mostly urban use - giving it occasional welly but mostly cruising. You don't buy something like this for fuel efficiency (unless you do mostly long-distance open road travel )- you buy it because it is awesome and has 261KW! Price seems to be fair for mileage, condition and V8. You could spend ~$32K and get one with the 200KW 3l 6 instead which will certainly use less fuel (urban listed at ~13l/100km.

1 pointJust fitted a factory towbar to the e61, it basically replaces the rear bumper reinforcement bar, pull the bumper cover off, pull off the steel reinforcement, bolt on the towbar, replace the cover.On the e61 the cover comes off by undoing the screws into the inner guards, then at the front of the bumper it pulls away from the car, then slides back, the cover comes off by itself so no big bolts, there are 2 screws just inboard and below the tailights, yours may be similar.

1 pointI had the plan e53 petrol for aboutb 2 years and upgraded to e70 3 diesel about 5 years ago. It has been and still is an awesome beast in terms of power and economy. We average about 10.3 litres per 100 ks during this time and the e53 was averaging 15. Majority of it is urban. My cousin picked up a 3 si from buy right with some nice specs and its goes ok. He loves driving it and so much so has ignored the economy..make sure you get the Autosure warranty.

1 pointIts a great looking car, remember looking it up when Ray was selling it, it's actually a June 2001 build but registered in NZ 2003, probably not hugely surprising with the size of the NZ market at the time. Would love to get one off the truely last E39s from an 03 build, bet there aren't many about.

1 pointHave not used a flap disc but a 3m strip disc works really well and seems to do a better job of stripping paint + rust than a wire wheel

That was my extrapolated book value based on an assumed price, to be fair! #8 ) Hmmm, I think the vehicle of choice when our former PM denied ordering high-speed to the airport (and refused to acknowledge any sensation or awareness of the circa 170km/h speed of her convoy), was a Ford. So yes, these should have had a relatively easy life. The occasional speedy jaunt in a motorcade (I still remember seeing the Duchess of Cambridge whizzing past me on Oriental Parade one grey afternoon), mostly (in Wellington at least) cruising from the airport to the beehive, around the bays.

1 pointI got the new rubber for the DS2's today and got everything fitted up. Looks way different and will take a while to get used to... Even without the tyres being run in yet they are light-years ahead of the old ones in grip. Once the shiney surface is worn through I'm expecting a pretty big difference. Here's some photo's of the car - it's a bit rough due to a shoddy paint job done about 5 years ago. It looked good for about 3 years but then the paint finish started going down hill. There's a lot of stone chipping on the front of the car too. There's also a supermarket ding in the passenger door. Now I need to save up for a repaint + I'm considering lowering it about 20mm all round. When it's repainted I'mm be putting on new trim all round + replacing the window rubbers.
