3 pointshey guys, a bit of update apologizes for the delay ive been trying to get enough together to do another write up. Anyway here's some of things ive been up to over the past months. Wheels- so i wasnt happy with the lips on the Equips as they were chrome plated and numerous stones had taken their toll on it. this was one of the first things i did in the earlier months. so thanks to 41 degree wheels and the legendary polishing services of Jasjot i have fitted 3.5inch rear lips and 2.5 inch front lips thats only 0.5 inch difference but it has made a world of difference both with fitment and looks. And to top it off i fitted 24k gold plated assembly bolts also supplied by jasjot. during this time i also had them stripped and painted. Sounds- ive had troubles with the premium audio in the car the speakers just dont last (not that i fitted new replacements) but i got tried of replacing them so i got a full harmon kardon speaker setup and much to my surprise everything just swapped out including the amp. i wouldnt say it was a huge improvement but it is better with the added bonus of the blingly harmon kardon badging and of course the reliability. Tuning- i took the car into ray to get the shift lights and cruise control programed in while i was there ray told me of a tune he could put on the car while he was programing it. it sounded so good i couldnt refuse and i must say it has made a big difference and has really sharpened the throttle up. Alex did a write up on here somewhere. the only down side was we were unable to get the lights and cruise working however i will look into this again later. Vanos- Kayne Barrie Motorsport rebuilt the vanos with new seals and rattle kit and now its much quieter with a slight improvement in power delivery Servicing- did a 10k kms service which included plugs, a new oil level sensor and valve cover gasket. Suspension- this is has been on my list and ive been saving for these for a while now but this weekend just gone i finally picked up my set of Bilstein PSS10 Coilovers. Naturally i could wait to install them so i spent my sunday doing just that along with a set of braided brakes lines i got off Ebay months ago but i wanted to wait until i got the pss10s to really feel the difference. i got them in and went for a short uneventful drive but i havent had a chance to really try them out as well as they need some adjustment with both height and damper adjust which i will do but after mu overseas holiday in the new year i will have the car corner balanced and setup correctly. Also my car lacked the factory strut brace fitted to other M3s so i managed to grab one of those off of brent from bmworld. So yeah no immediate plans for the near future as i need to focus of life stuff and my partners car build but im sure something will pop up and convince me otherwise haha. but hopefully you all enjoy this update.

2 pointsI know this car pretty well, in fact its' first NZ owner is a BMWCC stalwart and one of the original race series guys. My mate bought if off him. So, the car has been traded and this knob has bought it from the dealer (he most likely works there) and has decided to make some $$ for xmas. Good luck to him. Saying that, the Awesome Sound with crisp sounding speakers that will make you feel awesome just makes we want to buy my mates old car. I ate a pie in this car too and once blew cigarette smoke in the passengers window.

1 pointI've built this 135i into a 1M over the winter in my driveway. It has BMW factory 1M steel panels all bought new frpm BMW NZ. Changed out panels and rear guards using BMW factory repair methods, using BMW rivets and special rivet machine and epoxy. Runs all the right M3 parts, subframes, big d. shafts and LSD diff but has plenty of upgrades too. Basically take the entire 1M parts list and buy them and swap them to the 135i. I haven't worried about inside so much. Full bolt ons, 9" intercooler, intakes, catless, 3" exhaust, RB Next Gen turbos, cold and hot side intake pipes upgraded and modified, MHD E85 flash, JB4 G5 Iso, making around 650hp with meth and running E30. Stage 2 LPFP. I't runs 27lb boost. Meth installed over the xmas break and controlled via the JB4. KW V3 coilovers, vorshlag top camber castor plates. AP Radi-Cal brake kit all round. H&R sway bars, adjustable endlinks, Harder subframe bushes and most rubber parts changed out for Urethanes. 245/35/19, 295/30/19s. Manual 6spd. Upgraded clutch & plate from 550i. Carbon CSL boot lid. I've done all the work apart from the panel and paint in my driveway, head torch on my head, in the rain, frequently at night. Been a long slog, but worth it. Daily driver. According to BMW NZ this is NZ's first 1M clone. The way I treat cars and drive them, I couldn't/wouldn't modify a real 1M, nor could I afford one.

1 pointAll e39 m5's get the secondary air circuit in the heads blocked up with carbon. This triggers a fault code called : 'Minimum flow of secondary air' Google search it and you will see what happens and how to fix it. This does not affect performance so I wouldn't worry. Edit, some light reading : http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39-m5-e52-z8-discussion/128129-secondary-air-system-carbon-build-up-removal-pictures.html The exhaust valves can get carbon build up which will affect performance but that is rare and i think is created by short drives and lots of idling.

1 pointThe number plate light is working fine, but it's an LED beside the reversing camera, so has a different resistance than a normal bulb, so throws a warning. But yeah, while the number plate light isn't much of an issue, I also ate in that car too.

1 pointSea freighting that should cost less than $150 I'd think... my suspension at ~27kg, similar volume was quoted less than $80 for LA -> Auckland. Give Mainfreight a call (I'm not recommending them specifically but I'm not sure who all the others are).

1 pointAfter nearly a couple weeks of ownership - I am really enjoying the fact I chose a 330i instead of the 323i I was considering.

1 pointWe bought the space saver kit, includes jack etc. for the E61 from BMWNZ locally, was $580 a year or so back, gave me peace of mind and obviously the fit and finish is perfect
-
1 pointfor that kinda money you could get a steelie made to some common size so that the"spare" was a cheap tyre that conformed to the size(diameter) requirrment...like a -3 or 4 http://www.elitewheelcompany.co.nz/contact.htm

1 pointWouldn't cloth interior have to have been requested? I thought all E38's came with leather standard. Wow it looks horrible with cloth.

1 pointYes but a sectional doesn't tilt out in front and hit parked cars, and also doesn't tilt across inside the shed as much either.

1 pointnatural light rules, I'd always have a window. Toby, you don't need to weld now.... but you will in the future! Get the high-current outlets planned for. A topping slab may be your answer, if the existing slab is strong enough. A number of mates who've built garages have remarked it's useful getting higher quality building paper. Probably helps with condensation. Kilbirnie/Lyall Bay - no issue with condensation, the sun exposure bakes and heats steel garage all year round, you'd be amazed. You'll want high quality galv though, due to proximity to sea/salt driven by the wind. Roller doors take up less storage space. Build it high enough to get a 4x4 inside. HTH
