You need to take the E46 down! From Invercargill we headed towards Te Anau via the fishing port of Riverton and the Southern Scenic route. A morning coffee stop saw us checking out the Southern Sushi aka cheese rolls and the world famous Tuatapere sausages - the cafe did really well that morning! Then onwards through more amazing driving roads and wonderful scenery Lunch today was at Lake Manapouri. Back in the 1960’s this beautiful lake was the subject of public opposition to government plans to raise the lake level to assist with operation of the Manapouri power station. The flow of the Waiau river was reduced by 90% to increase flow to the lake. The power station supplies electricity to the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter, one of the Government’s think big projects. Eventually and perhaps surprisingly, public opinion won out and the lake levels are controlled within “natural levels” whilst flow of theWaiau river has been restored to about 30%. This was the star of the conservation movement in New Zealand- it was quite a turning point. Te Anau was another town that has been badly hit by Covid keeping international tourists away. But one amusing moment arrived when one of the locals arrived in the town centre with his friend Penelope the pig in the back seat of his Mazda Apparently she goes everywhere with him. Life is different down South!

Thanks Murray. Yes the weather was great and the scenery just amazing - it was like driving in a pictorial calendar! After the Catlins trip, we had two nights in Invercargill with the intention the group would make a day trip to Stewart Island. As with some other things on this journey, no ferry bookings had been made and it seemed the morning ferry was fully booked. Undeterred, Donna and I went down to the ferry terminal and ‘bluffed’ our way (see what I did there?) on. Donna had not been there before and this was the one thing she was most looking forward to. We had a nice smooth crossing over and then took a bus trip which took us to all the hotspots. There is only 25km of roads and I think we covered them all! Stewart Is covers a large area but only three percent of the land area is available for occupancy - the rest is National Park, and DOC reserve. We were not able to get onto the boat trip to Ulva Island which is a bird sanctuary- this one was full. So instead it was off to the South Seas Hotel for lunch - the Blue Cod burger was superb. They have installed a symbolic chain to link Stewart Island to the mainland, this referencing the story of Maui who used Stewart Island as his anchor whilst fishing the North Island from the sea. We were able to visit both ends. There is a new museum, visitor centre and library but otherwise it was much as I remembered, and I was there 50 years ago! The rest of the tour group took the opportunity to visit the Richardson’s Truck museum (amazing place - I was there in November) and to wash there cars. We had made some detours onto unsealed roads while in the Catlins.

Hoping you maybe able to assist us! A friend of ours from Auckland 2 years ago initiated a Facebook group for NZ E39 M5 owners . During that time he has built a register of E39 M5's in this country. Due to some serious unbridled enthusiasm and get-go, around 35 NZ new cars have now been uncovered, with around 12-13 imports. I believe that the vast majority of cars in the country have now been discovered. However we know there has to be a few more out there! Most are currently located in Auckland, but there are few also in the Waikato, Hawkes Bay, Poverty Bay, Wellington, Christchurch etc. Are there any cars out there that you are aware of that may not be on the register? As you are probably aware , the interest in these cars has elevated in recent years - and we have some seriously passionate members of our Facebook group who adore their beasts. The founder of the group organized a successful get- together several months ago -when 20 plus E39 M5's were photographed together in Auckland. A special occasion. Please respond to this thread or drop me a PM if you have any intel on any cars that you may be aware of. It would be immensely appreciated! There is a unsubstantiated rumour that a very low k example lives in the South Island, and spends some time in the Dunedin area. Does anyone have any intel on that car? We appreciate that there will always be some who may not want to be involved in any facebook groups - but we would still love to have information on the cars out there! Anecdotally there were 250 delivered to Australasia new - nobody seems to know what the actual split was between NZ and Australia.

Unsure how this eluded the search engine previously. Very interested to see what a very desirable (Schartz manual 2 door with Alpina bits) but non collectable (Not mint / engine swapped / no cert etc) E30 manual goes for in the current auction market. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/320i/listing/3081744318?bof=qOCQShRm

Ohhh yes. I had a Lister 7.0 (no superchargers) XJ12C. Arches bulged like a bodybuilder on a diet of pure steroids and protein. I thought that was a monster - heaven knows what this is like!

I know it’s a coupe and a manual, but... 316i, bottle caps, cracked dash, pretty basic, 173k kms Is that really worth $15k..? Let’s see what the auction ends up at.

Seems the 100 octane from NPD will be at the new Wiri site by SH20. Any experience from its use in the SI? https://www.npd.co.nz/100plus-high-octane-petrol/?fbclid=IwAR3Qmkg1I3kRV0aceJhNDjAMrw_Nq-A44yGCGjJPuOM13bS5WM0GTRde0Z8

These work a treat, i have countless customers using them from strip to drift. Running through the turbo intake and running eth erodes the cooler out, meth and ally are not good friends. Free Hp as such, but don't rely on it to cover DET get it tuned right without it, you should pick up easy 50+hp https://www.ebay.com/itm/264980791794?epid=1559609774&hash=item3db21601f2:g:8iEAAOSwUmhf2~qI

There are a lot of systems on the market, most of them coming out of the USA where bolt-on superchargers have become a big thing in recent years. Every manufacturer claims that their system is the best and most of them will do a reasonable job. The differences are mainly in the way the mix is atomised, how many safeguards there are and how the rate of injection is varied to allow the flow rate to increase as the boost increases. If you want something simple , There is one system used by rotary guys in Aussi that originally just used water and applied boost pressure to the container to force the water out a nozzle into the intake. I think that it has got a bit more sophisticated now, but in my book simple is always best. Read about it here... http://riceracing.com.au/water-injection.htm Cheers...

The non-turbo straight 6 engines and very reliable. The N54/55 turbo engines are fun but can give you some grief and high bills. The 4-pots are garbage.

Fusso King of Gloss. It's definitely very glossy, goes on easily. Need to put on thinly as it dries hard and white, gets cakey if thick. Leaves quite a bit of dust buffing off... But it's definitely easy and very glossy
