Here's the key component/cause exclusions under the 2 main AutoSure policies: Under the Autosure Extreme: Batteries, exhaust systems, catalytic converters, tyres, entertainment systems, heated seat elements, light bulbs, communication systems, fuel tanks, keys and remotes; Repairs necessitated by external causes, contamination, perishing, corrosion, rust, consequential loss or damage, accident damage, fire damage, water damage, theft, wilful damage, misuse, neglect, faulty repair and/or defective workmanship; Under Essential: Batteries, exhaust systems, shock absorbers, air bags and componentry, sunroofs, catalytic converters, tyres, seat belts, audio and entertainment systems, global positioning systems, seats, lights, communication systems, fuel tanks, air bag suspension, keys and remotes; Brake pads and shoes; Manual clutch and flywheels; Spark plugs, glow plugs, drive belts, lubricants, gas, filters, injector servicing and fluids; Repairs necessitated by external causes, contamination, perishing, corrosion, rust, consequential loss or damage, accident damage, fire damage, water damage, theft, wilful damage, misuse, neglect, faulty repair and/or defective workmanship; Repairs necessitated by the failure of any plastic components due to gradual deterioration and any resulting damage Depends on the policy you have... Extreme is the best one to go with. For @Olaf's rack to be excluded the repair would need to be required because of the corrosion. So for example if my plastic timing chain guides fail on my M62TU (in my old X5) due to age/deterioration then under my Essential policy the repair to sort it all out won't be covered. ?

The reason I've started to use Auto38 is simply the level of experience, care and passion that Jon brings to working on Bimmers. Difference between a craftsman and people doing a job ...

It's also not really for sale anymore unless someone wants to pay the full asking price. The E36 video made my winkie tingle. And then I went out and revved mine to 7k and all was right in the world.

Sucks as it sounds like a situation where some missed damaged rack boots\neglected them for too long, now you are paying for that down the line. At the same time knowing BMW im sure active steering is good at actively breaking also.

Not that I disagree, but I wouldn't be surprised if those who don't have the personal responsibility or common sense to take out insurance, would meet the criteria of third party, even if they were forced to, and were found at fault in a crash. Most of these types likely Don't have a WOF Might have a WOF but car is in an unroad worthy state Breaching license conditions Drug/alcohol impaired. All reason to be denied cover. We have such a culture in this country now that personal responsibility is out the window and its easier to blame someones else. Couple that with a piss weak justice system and resentment/jealousy for success. If the wannabe gangster takes out your late model six figure Euro in his unwarranted 'ceffy', whats it to him... Your insurance will pick up the tab, easy.

1 May 2019. 173665kms 1. Fuel Filler Cap: replaced. The fuel filler cap seal was badly cracked. And (as mentioned in my initial posts on this thread more than two years ago), was missing it’s leash. I’d experienced a ‘lockout’ recently on my e46 (same cap), where I was unable to open the cap to fuel up, and needed to resort to soaking with penetrant to ease the seal. So I sourced two OE replacements (one for each car). I couldn’t see the value in Genuine BMW for this, was happy with OE product. It’s a three minute job to replace the cap. Seal not available as a separate part (referring to RealOEM). From this... ... to this Job’s a good ‘un.

217,500km CLUNK ELIMINATED turned out the engine mounts weren't torqued correctly....opps, my bad. The mounts were new.....guessing maybe they weren't fully loaded when i torqued them.....either way they are torqued now...they were out by about half a turn. The car is driving amazing..I am loving it. Gotta laugh at how much stuff I've replaced trying to solve the noise, not to mention the two shops i took it to who also didn't pick it up. Jon was on the right track though thinking it was an installation error as opposed to a failed part...expensive lesson in DIY'ing, don't think the car is worse off for it though. We celebrated with an oil and filter change ?

Hi guys, new member, but have been reading for some time. I own a 2008 335i M-Sport sedan and have owned it for about a year now. I moved to BMW from a 2005 Saab 95 Aero sedan. The 335i is my daily driver and I thoroughly enjoy being in it. It makes going to work more bearable lol. I am in Auckland and look forward to reading and hopefully contributing.

Great result! Can't recommend Jon enough

I absolutely recommend Jon for anything e39 (and many other models to be honest). He was able to sort so many little issues with my old M5 when others just didn’t have the experience or want to diagnose. Glad you got rid of the shimmy!
