New windscreen New (painted) steering wheel cowl Eibach / Koni is the combo for sure. Should have done it years ago. Rides better than ever, perfect height IMO.

Haven’t been able to do too much lately but probably worth updating where I’m stuck on as I’m planning to strip it down soon as well. Main issue at the moment has been the overheating when idling too long. Got some help figuring out if the fan actually spun if it had power. It definitely works so will just need to make a manual switch temporarily until I get a bigger one as this fan is tiny! Unfortunately, I didn’t grab any materials before level 4 so stuck with nothing at the moment. Just like an animal that’s been rescued, this little beast needed a bit of cleaning. I made the mistake of not taking photos of how bad the state of the car had been. While photos from far away looks good. It looked like it literally hadn’t been cleaned in years. So just think mould/mildew/moss in every crevice and a lot of random (?) stains on the outside. Managed to coax the sister to help out with the reward of washing her car too. After a lot of scrubbing, blasting with a garden hose, and soap, we managed to get pretty much all of what we can reach. But wasn’t happy with the water stains and some mild oxidation of the paint so decided to give it a polish while we’re there. A lot of polish and elbow grease later and she’s brighter than most people’s future. Very satisfying.

I suspect the mt2 market won't cool until hmm and seaview1974 have finally got their whales. They've bid on the last four mt2's and haven't won, so we're at least two cars away from a market correction.

Thanks mate! The front and rear valances will need to be restored properly when it gets stripped as they’re not looking great even from the immense scrubbing. From what I could see, mostly just the same as all the other crevices, mould, mildew, and moss. I think even a cockroach jumped out. Do you know how it could possibly have been fitted? Keen to rip em off.

Looks like a very nice car indeed but there's another (not as nice) Auto 325i vert that's been sitting on Facebook Market place for months failing at $20K. As nice as it is, the ceiling for an Auto PFL vert with 200+ kms on reps can't be more than $25k.

Pretty car but he’s basically asking the market to pay as much as an M-Tech. More even.

Well it is…. If you retain the ti small case diff and axles. I was also caught out whilst adding a medium case into a compact and had to flog some e30 rear axles off @Southerner. Atleast you would of had some already!

Hi all, has anyone got an X5 they’re looking to sell? Would prefer darker colours with black leather, and a solid service history. Let me know what you’ve got. Thanks

UK didnt get that many (only have ~1000 still registered). 14000 seems like the right number, its just in NZ our fleet gets skewed by Japans ( I assume Japan would have been a pretty big market for expensive euro hatch backs in mid 2000s)

AA Batteries these days are rubbish, even maintained with a modern seven-stage calcium/AGM capable charger. I now buy KOBA, good quality for the money. @jom if you're not driving the e36 regularly, best to hook up the batty on maintenance cycle on your fancy new charger. HTH.

What he ^^^^ said When batteries were made here in NZ during the era of local assembly, they were big clunky things with lots of lead in the plates. But as the motor industry progressed the demand was for smaller, lighter and cheaper so that is what the battery manufacturers provided. Now that all batteries are imported from Asian countries and improved design, materials and manufacturing techniques are employed. The end result is a battery that is only just big enough to do the job for the warranty period if used in a well maintained and easy to start vehicle.... I fkn love marketing I suspect that the AA has tapped into a lower cost source for their batteries to improve their margin. This may have the mildly embarrassing side effect of shorter battery life but the attitude is... never mind the quality... feel the width !! So if your vehicle is getting on in years and does not start as easily as it once did, you do a lot of short trips and use all the accessories thoughtfully provided by the manufacturer, you can look forward to buying a new battery from AA every three years. This information is lifted directly from the AA website... Calcium batteries are the most commonly fitted battery; they also go by the name of ‘wet lead acid’ batteries. The basic ingredients are no different to the old style, but these batteries are more durable and have more starting power. They have a good shelf life and are maintenance free. But they require regular use, so when drained they must be recharged using a charger to bring them back to optimal health. Modern vehicle charging systems will struggle to recharge these fully when they’re drained. What is not stated is that you need a special charger for calcium batteries, and that if your vehicle was not factory fitted with a calcium battery, the vehicle will most likely not be able to recharge the battery fully. Thus the battery will never be operating at optimum voltage and battery performance and service life will be reduced. It is a classic example of where a so called improvement (good shelf life and are maintenance free) that benefited sellers, was in fact a performance downgrade for buyers. Cheers...

As long as it doesnt have a pretensioner. If it does, it cant be re-webbed. There is a guy in Wellington that is one of few authorised to do it (non-pretensioned).

Starting to remove the black and the Japanese. Front and rear euro sections arrived last week and am waiting for the bodyshop to paint them. Original grills bought last week from a wreck as original are ridiculously expensive and the euro plates arrived today. Just have to decide whether I use the euro front and drill holes in the plate or get another set of euro plate holders. I think I'm leaning towards the first, paint the holder, drill holes in the plate and get covers for the screws.

I've bought 2 vehicles (Triumph motorcycle, plus a '73 RX2 Coupe) via Bring a Trailer - both pretty well priced and no untidy surprises upon arrival to NZ. I keep an eye out on CollectingCars, and they seem to deal in very high end vehicles (think Lamborghini, modern Porsches, Aston Martin etc), and not so much my cup of tea either aesthetically or financially. I've had the daily emails from BaT for several years now, and these guys have built an exceptional business from the ground up (selling almost 90% of the 60ish cars a day they accept on to their site) Good for them!! Pics for self gratification.............

Eibach springs to go with the Koni's - only driven 50km, but it actually feels like it rides better(?) than with OEM springs. Definitely looks better. CSL ride height target. Also new spec gearbox oil from @HELLBM - smoother shift is nice, ~192km
