Im of the opinion that a matching numbers original car is always better than a standard model with goodies swapped in (to try and make a replica of the original).
-
Thats awesome. Initially i was thinking "hell, with all this effort why not just buy a real 1M?".... but your last line sums it up, you just made the car you want, how you want, instead of modifying a rarity (and likely decreasing the value of the 1M in the process).

Oh gosh yes, Oxford green with the tan leather. Perfect. Shame im broke

i wonder what they define as "buggered" in terms of the trans? Arent they common for eating clutches?

On the Z4, code B21, it is non-metallic. http://s1307.photobucket.com/user/Keng_Wasan/media/Z4_zpszoggogmb.jpg.html

For sale in the wellington region wasnt it? Seem to recall a white one going for that much a few years ago, I just missed out on it

seen someone on facebook saying its going to be stripped out and would be good for a targa car.

What are your biggest pleasures of owning a BMW?
KwS replied to KiwiTT's topic in General Discussion
Its gone now, but the E36 M3.... that engine is a work of art. Revs like a Honda, but pulls like a freight train. Always amazes me watching the dyno run of my car, it just keeps on revving. It was also the small things, like the driver-centric dash layout, and the solid feel of everything (also applied to my E46 and E39) -
I wish they didnt all look the damn same. Its really hard to tell them apart at work now. The backs are even worse. Yes the S Class is a coupe, but its hard to find a good photo of a sedan that has the large star grille.
-
It looks nice, but its bit of a polished turd. No motorsport seats, replica this and that, probably a good deal at 10k, not good at 16k.
-
Unless you already have recently, i would also do new strut top mounts and reinforcement plates.
-
$700 is a steal for the conditions at the moment. Is that an online instant quote, or actually talking to a company about it? Its chaos down there, no rail, no road, nothing.
-
Oh wow, i really want that. Its the real deal too, looking at the datacard. I pine so hard for a tidy 190 cosworth, that isnt megabucks.
-
Yes, but a normal E55 isnt special like a Brabus/Kleemann tuned model.... Its apples and oranges, as Nathan said, the buyer of an Alpina B5 is buying it because its special and its rare.
-
Youre on the wrong forum to try and preach the advantages of the AMG. The Alpina is a special car; a limited edition, top spec super rare executive car. The E55 is a mass produced, super common status symbol with lots of power, a good noise, and not much else going for it. I'd hazard a guess that except for parts like the supercharger, the ownership costs of the Alpina will be much lower than the AMG tax on the E55. Not to mention the horrible unreliability of the AMG.
-
Huh, totally didnt know they were still available. Same with the motorsport flag ones.
-
Spotted a bog standard 323i E36, being driven like a normal daily driver..... but with the rare MTECHNIC side rub strips. Want.
-
IMO from what i read, the M5 and B5 are two different beasts, for two different purposes. I imagine the B5 would be easier to live with on a daily basis, not having the SMG trans to deal with.
-
Wow, looking a bit worse for wear! Carjam says NZDM with almost 300K on it.
-
I wonder how they respond to an ECU reflash....
-
Wasnt it up for 18k originally? Cant have made much profit on it after the tidy up.
-
IIRC Alpina has tweaked the trans, and given it button shift on the wheel. Only came in auto though, no twin clutch. According to a quick google, https://translate.google.co.nz/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpina_B5&prev=search

Looks like a nice car, but has crap photos.

Have you taken the pressure plate off and actually inspected the disk and flywheel? Thats really about the only way to check anything.
