  1. was the old engine an M52 or an S50?
  2. its not an M3 by the way. someones just stuck a badge on the back. an M3 is a totally different car to a 323i
  3. not sure about E46 specifically, but both E34 and E36 will slip if the oil is really old and/or low. may be the same
  4. you need to replace the EWS module as well as the ECU and also put the chip that matches the engine into the key that operates the car. You may also have to change the antenna ring, i cant remember if i had to change that when doing the EWS on one of my other BMWs. after all that, you may need to get the EWS aligned as well because the ECU will have got power while the module didn't, so may be out of sink. Ive probably spent 30 or so hours researching EWS in the past, but your really too far away for me to come and help etc. You have a few options from here 1/ Fit current setup and hope that it works properly. EWS can be a bitch to get just right. 2/ Pull the b20 and sell it and fit an M52B25 which is the engine originally in your car and go from there. you can use the original ECU, original chip original EWS module etc, the only thing to change the engine itself and leave all the original body wiring in the vehicle. 3/ Buy a 1991 M50B20 ECU and fit that. That ECU did not have any EWS at all and therefore should start up. 4/ Pay someone else stupid amounts of diagnosing fees etc to get it working.
  5. you dont hear it often from me, but nice E39!
  6. have been to several branches around the north island, always really good, probably one of the safest bets when out of town.
  7. Not sure in Clintons case, but all the big banks offer loans for cars, i would assume caryards are agents for private lenders too but after close on 20 cars I've never brought a car from a yard so i couldnt tell you i agree for a private use vehicle, there is no tax incentives for financing it so why would you
  8. I can see your logic here. interest rate you are paying less the interest your receiving is the actual cost. But isnt it better to be paying the 20% interest on a fridge that goes on your visa for a few months that is highly likely not to eventuate while you sort out paying that off, than be locked into the interest on the car no matter what happens in the future? You can get Gem Visa Cards now that have 6 months interest free on big ticket items. Its an interesting argument which ever way you look at it.
  9. Rio's E30 Touring on Adelaide road and Anthonys pair of E30s. so much e30 love
  10. i went up a few months back, a few mates of mine were going to i humoured them and went along. neutral drive drops in standard v8 falcons, fires, skidding WAY after the red light, you name it. never again lol
  11. is there a golf ball sized hole in the side of the sump?????
  12. Ive been holding back but i want to say something releting to most people with stuff on tick.... If im honest, my opnion on that is that they shouldnt have a car on tick in the first place. My E30 does everything an E90 does for a fraction of the price. You can either afford a flash car or you cant. If your living that close to 0, you should be downgrading your vehicle. Putting a car of all "assets" on tick is stupid unless its a vehicle you use to make money that outweighs the interest and depreciation ie a work van. But as for a passenger car, the depreciation is bad enough, let alone to have to pay interest too. I was talking to a friend of mine that has an 01 or so Outback on tick, has around $10k still to pay, but you can buy one outright for $5k. Just because i can afford to service the payments on a brand new 1 series or similar doesnt mean I own one. A loan to buy anything that isn't going to increase your income earning capacity is totally illogical from a financial point of view, and isn't really an asset. A loan to buy a business home or education = smart, a loan to buy a stereo or car = stupid. I could go into certain classes of people having sky tv and v8 falcons in state owned houses, but i wont go there.. Regular outgoings but irregular incomes has shut down many businesses and bankrupted many people. Not to mention what happens to you if you loose your job. This is not directed at you by the way Clinton, I understand yours is a work vehicle. Its at the vast majority of people though
  13. theres a few similar ones ive seen down this end of the island too. one parked on Taita Drive all the time. They are chinese built
  14. get a bill load it for the date its due, done. a good credit rating is easy to loose and takes 4 years to get back. The only time thats not true is when my company both buys and sells from a small handful of other companies so obviously i dont pay them if they have outstanding payments to me, but that doesnt happen in private life.
  15. I disagree, but happy to be proven wrong. Good to see you back on the forum bud! I did that too.
  16. 100% smoke free for 21 years, I dont think I'm a typical product of my generation. all of you guys though thats really good effort giving up. I have mates that "cannot" give up, but from my nonsmoker point of view, it seems like massive will power is the only way to really give up! ...and another Bacon addict here, the latest investment....
  17. I got that impression too, which is why i recommended them. The auto industry, particularly workshops, is absolutely plauged with muppets, so its nice to find ones you can trust. I can name the mechanics i trust on one hand
  18. Yes, standard airboxes and exhaust. Havent decided if i want to open it up a bit more or leave it "standard". It hauls ass like it is, so its not a decision i have to make quickly. Anyone that knows my cars knows i like them being presented as though they left the factory this way, and thats why a Link ECU was out of the picture in my head. Lance tells me its more like two 6 cylinder M40s right down to the displacement of the cylinders than it is two M20s. I havent done enough research on the innards of the engine to tell you one way or another. But yes its running dual factory ECUs etc, and is the reason its running a custom loom, you cannot marry the M70 into a car thats built for only "one engine". I should stop giving away Lances trade secrets though. I had better start saving for gas haha, but jokes aside yes im very keen! Been a while since ive seen the bulk of the Welly members. For the younger members, uni and techs should be all finished by then, i know i graduate last week of this month. Yes Lance did the conversion itself and got it running etc. Conversion is incredibly involved, and has taken a few weeks over a year to do in Lances spare time. I did everything else suspension wheels kit paint interior etc plus Lance helped a bit here and there. He really is a wizard i think! I am currently in the process of doing the non-WOF electrical stuff like the interior lighting and stereo and heater fans etc. to make it from a go kart with a big boot into an actual car. After my experience doing the E30M52 conversion, i found the wiring incredibly time consuming in that project because I am colour blind, so each and every wire i had to trace to its source etc. Thats the reason that car took me so long to get going and when it finally did i was amazed but vowed never to do it again. Printed curcuit electronics im brilliant at, modules, IC Chips, computers and the likes, because i can see everything in front of me. But complex system wiring im no good at for this reason. So when i thought id be keen on a 540i but loved my calypso wagon, and i had put a lot of work into it already, swapping the engine was the only way to have both. But if im swapping the engine why go for the "boring" M60? So I managed to talk Lance into doing the engine wiring and so fourth, and ill take care of the rest. Stereos and any future mods etc ill be doing though.
  19. wtf how did that happen??? it won't afaik the e36 has a larger spline. an E36/E30 guy to confirm
  20. +1 I hope you arent one of those wanking on to the John Key and anyone else who will listen asking about where the jobs are.
  21. Ill be getting a million photos at the Bimmersport/SNZ track day on sunday coming, can those of us there that need it get an extension for a day or two?
  22. Cheers for compliments guys! Handles really well actually! Its on modified XYZ Supersport Adjustable's (there second to top tier coil over, the latter for race only), there is NO movement in the arbitrary bounce test in the front, the rear i need to stiffen up slightly. The front end totally rebuilt (bushes, drop arms etc) before the conversion was started. Very drivable though, and would be fine to take your grandma out for a snot. All you E34 and E32 guys on here, the XYZs are well worth thier investment, i got them from Speedfactor Motorsport, and they can mod them for you, however I got them done at TTT Auto Engineering in Auckland however, and recommend his work, and absolutely phenomenal service by him to get the job done in a very tight window! oh now theres an idea i haven't thought of twin supercharged????? Christmas bonus is coming.....
