Have a chat or go see Zane at Automatic Transmission Repairs, Plimmerton. He really knows his stuff and takes the time to have a proper chat regarding your issues/requirements. He is very familiar with the ZF gearboxes. Local garages I deal/dealt with all recommend Zane for all gearbox work. I have had a couple of GM gearboxes rebuilt by him to a very high standard and he doesn't cut corners. A local member had their X5 trans rebuilt by Zane recently as well. Hope this helps.

The only EV worth owning - E31 840ci ? http://www.evbmw.com/ He has been building this for 2+ years. It has Tesla components installed and looks very interesting. He has done some pretty cool conversions of 90's era BMW's. The E30 looks to be very tidy and well done!

I agree the amber indicators don't look quite right. IMO it kinda ruins the overall look a great looking car. It's the same with the original 8-series. All the US ones have the amber FTP's, even the CSI's. Which is wrong, just wrong! And by the way the M5 is looking great!

Thats awesome! Back on topic - what thoughts/impressions, good and not so good, does your boss have on the M5?
-
@Olaf I couldn't help myself. Its a case of 'doing it again' - the clubhouse remix that is ? Look forward to the coffee and cars catch up next week...

I also contemplated buying it at the time as well - looking back now it was a great way, and price, to experience an E34 M5! Good to know that it is still around and lives on! What about the NZ New ultra-violet one (possibly in the pics in this thread - apologies if it is, I haven't fully re-read thread) that came up for sale through Turners a couple of years ago? Where did that one end up? Personally would love to own an E34 and E39 M5. But unfortunately for me, it seems that prices are steadily climbing... I shulda, wulda, culda ? . Happy with the E36 M3 sedan though ?

Ressurection of this post has got me thinking - anyone know what happened to, or where is, the green re-shelled E34 M5? I recall @BM WORLD sold it 5-6 years ago?

So after my more recent reality check...
treone replied to SmithyInWelly's topic in Other European Cars
I contemplated an XR5 late last year, when two came. They remind me of an XRi Telstar I had, which was actually a pretty good liftback. And practical too! I've actually ended up another Adventra - Don't know why, must be that 3m+ practicality. It sure ain't the economy ? Can't go wrong with Mondeo, and thats coming from a 'Holden' guy haha! -
Living with sensible(?) vehicles - E53 V8 and E60 M5...

Bugger about the coolant leak @TermiPeteNZ. At least it looks like it is, or was, the correct BMW approved coolant ?. Auto 38 will have you sorted in no time. And the M5 is looking awesome as usual! -

Look forward to the next local catch to drool over the M cars ? These are awesome videos as well! I would like to see the same done with the M5's. Heres hoping! -
What could've been is now going to be? ?

Condolences and thoughts go out to Atta's family and to all those impacted by this senseless act. RIP - Rest In Paradise.

Am I mad to be considering this? 2001 E53 X5
treone replied to Gabe79's topic in TradeMe discussions
X5's are awesome! and it would eat the rough road for breakfast ?. Think of it as an E39 touring on steriods. The higher seating position, stacks of room and ride/travel comfort is a big bonus over the E39! An X5 just eats the miles. Be prepared for the sacrifice in fuel economy if you take the plunge - But thats what the Leaf is for hehe. IIRC I was getting 12/13 on my daily commute (60km round trip urban/motorway) and about 10/11 on long trips (1100kms Wgtn to BoP return). Unscientific testing of course haha! Good spec, good price, great color - go on, just do it (after getting it checked out first of course) ?. -
I'm calling it - video of the year!!

I like the X3 but I'm a huge fan of the X5! Would jump at the chance to own a manual one but seems they are more common in the diesels. I don't have the kahunas for a diesel. Yet ? Enjoyed the manual X3 for 3 years and found it a capable round town hack. But nothing spectacular. The X5 was a great long distance cruiser and ate the miles with no problems! Would only get another X3 for a fishing slash dog wagon ?. But I wont be... haha

Im liking the replies and they're so true! Some good sound advice and observations coming out! For clarity im not, and never was, contemplating purchasing this - i agree in that this is most likely a money pit and you would be better off paying extra for a 'good one' i you were in te market I now have a car buying strategy that im going to be sticking to and an X3 isnt included haha

I like X3's so this is such a shame... but is it worth a gamble? https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1921862068

Ahhh man, if i wasnt looking at mazdas... Looks to be nice example. Added to my watchlist hehe ?
-
Cheers @BozzaFC and @Olaf Next new/old car will probably be the aforementioned Mazda ? and the first of my list of keepers ?
-
Mikes got a good memory as I haven't been there for a while ? The plan is to eventually get another 8 series and an E39 M5. Hopefully I'll be able to get one of the two in the next 1-2 years and then work towards the other after that, before prices go crazier. Both will be keepers for me! An Eisenmann exhaust will provide a nice note. I preferred the sound (roar!) of the V10 when you hit the higher rev range - nothing could beat it haha. And yip - you've got my name right
