Yeah much respect for him still supporting the forum and offering the discount after all these years.

Neuton tyres are a budget brand tyre no doubt and but no would know how much worse they are than the Bridgestones unless you used both new in the same conditions. Id be swapping out the runflats for conventional tyres in your situation (i believe most do this). The higher cost, lesser ride quality and grip negate the puncture benefits for the average persons use. You can get a factory tyre inflator kit from BMW etc for temporary puncture repair.

Open diff can spin both wheels. The test ive used is have someone hold one wheel while you spin the other wheel, if its an lsd then the held wheel should want to overcome held resistance and want to turn in the same direction as the spinning wheel, it shouldn't be able to be moved in the opposite direction of the spinning wheel.

+1. K's mean jack on a 14 year old car.

As above but be sure your car is level, run it through the gears and it check at right temperature (between 30-50 degrees) to ensure accurate reading

A lot car but a lot of potential money pits. Id be scared to own it or drive it much in case it breaks. V12's have never been BMW forte though, hardly performs much better than the Mercedes 6.0L V12 from 1991.

E36 M52B28 Engine not turning while starter spinning.

Id check battery voltage and connections first. Otherwise it maybe something stuck or bad internally, jacking it up may of disrupted something. Try giving it a few taps with the ignition on or undo it from the block and see it if gear is actually extending with the key on -
Head in floor well job are never nice but id agree with you on that one too. The E39 is fairly easy by comparison and is one of the reasons ive always preferred the 5 series over the 3, those extra inches sure make things much easier when it comes to working space. Fixed my passengers seat twist - 2x cable sleeves needed shortening for height and 1x for recline.

With all the silicon you pulled out no one would be surprised. Shame on the PO.

Depends if it had actually failed internally or it just needs a clean, they shouldn't compress when filled with oil. Easy enough to inspect since you are cleaning them all but 2 new ones would be good for piece of mind. Never heard of anyone rebuilding them myself, buying a whole new one would be better i would of thought.

Now thats retro

BMW 6's an above are usually above average from what ive encountered. This one from some sh*t box Honda is one worst examples ive personally come across in recent times.

What sort of dye did you use? In my book its under yearly maintenance for all models esp the manuals.
-
Yeah that's BMW parts catalogs have always stated. Easy enough to confirm via engine bay or a head under the car. Can't miss that monstrosity.

Stops to car from starting without foot on clutch. Doesn't bother some people but i hate most of idiot features.
-
Looks pretty well sorted. Disabling the clutch safety sensor would be my first mod if it hasn't already been done.

If you have a long screw driver you may be able to pinpoint it by putting it against your ear and placing the tip against where you think the noise is coming from.

Solvent to breakdown/soak valves with carbon deposits
Eagle replied to 325_driver's topic in Maintenance
Subaru upper engine cleaner used to be the recommended one but ive never used it myself. Ive also seen a CRC version intake cleaner at Repco. If its real bad and baked on then i would think media blasting would be the only way to do a thorough job. -
E36 Heater Control Issues - Feet and Windscreen Only Blows Hot
Eagle replied to M M's topic in Maintenance
Yeah sorry i didnt read it properly and was getting mixed up with something else. Yeah i believe valves should stop all heat regardless, not to sure if the those flaps close when cold is selected but its probably more for recirculation mode thinking about it. Did you manually power the valves on the bench to visually see they were sealing properly? Maybe pull the connector and energize them with 12V directly on the car to see if that shuts the heat off. Haven't heard of the resistor affecting temp, not saying its impossible but you are presumable getting the correct voltage to control the valves. -
E36 Heater Control Issues - Feet and Windscreen Only Blows Hot
Eagle replied to M M's topic in Maintenance
My friends E36 is like this but once the AC is on it appears to cease or maybe blend cold air into it. I never really looked into it because he hardly drives so never tested much. Im guessing you tried running full manual vent mode with everything cold? Assuming the heater valves are good and the control unit is functioning properly then I wonder if its some sort of connection issue from control unit to the HVAC stepper motors, possibly causing them not to shut when selecting cold given the center vents is controlled separate Edit: Does the E36 have an actual IHKA module as such? I know E34\E32 did which was in the dash -
Good idea. You'd likely hear a bearing before play.

Haven't used the 5's myself but they appear to be a decent road tyre. In my experience Goodyear pricing has always been too much compared with Michellin and Bridgestone equivalents. Their overall performance doesn't usually test any better, so ive rarely used their products over the years. I typically recommend Michellin PS4's these days as they are usually well priced on Hyper.co.nz and offer decent performance for the $. Prices can vary more than expected with certain tyre sizes so you probably want to factor that in as well.

Looks like a standard reservoir so i would think its std hydraulic also. Why would you want anything else on one of these.

I think you'll find the majority of these Turner consultants have very little knowledge about cars in general, end of the day they are in sales.

Steering wheel trim fitted. Should of been an easy 15min job but Murphy's Law. I got a alloy one off ebay the looked the same as my wood trim as far as i would tell in photos. After spending forever trying to find suitable machine screws that were missing off the base (this trim uses these and a little nut to secure to wheel buttons instead of self tappers into plastic), it appears this trim must have different internal curvature or has slightly smaller prongs as it doesn't sit perfectly even after some leather trimming. I don't think most would notice but its all BMW to blame on this one, so many slightly different variants for E46\E39\E53 wheel trims that supposedly use the same wheels, kinda sh*t i expect from the Japanese.
