7 pointsI know you are trying to be a GC here but I would rather donate money to the spca or some wildlife protection charity. Humans have all the means possible to not put themselves into these situations.

4 pointsStraight in to taking care of the important bits, the engine. Vanos test in GT1 tells me the exhaust advance value on Bank 1 in crank degrees is way out of wack, like 11 degrees out. Bank 2 passes with flying colours. No fault codes in relation to Vanos, so the issue points to being mechanical. I initially swapped the solenoid packs from bank to bank thinking it may be a solenoid issue. No joy, time to open the engine up. This engine is very clean on the inside. It was apparently rebult 35k ago with : -New oil control rings (excessive oil consumption) -rod bearings -all new chains, tensioners and guides Bank 1 valve cover was removed this evening in preparation to check static cam timing, as per the DIS recommendation during the Bank 1 vanos test. Bank 2 cover and some other bits to be removed in order to do the work. This is the underside of the valve cover on bank 1. Usually these are gummed up badly with old oil so it means one less cleaning job to do.

4 pointsOne of the first cars I customised was a 59 Morris Minor van. My father and I spent hundreds of hours restoring the body and upgrading the suspension to Vauxhall disks and independant jag rear. Then a 3lt V6 and 5 speed gearbox went in. Custom paint and interior. Loved that car. Similar thing happened and I had a fire in the engine bay which totaled the car. Undaunted(well maybe a bit) I wanted to save my beloved van but it was cost prohibitive. To cut a long story short I took a second job and saved and scrimped on everything for a year so I could afford to bring my van back. This is what your friend should be doing. Not relying on the goodwill of others to fund his repairs. Yeah, I feel for his loss but if he works for it himself he'll appreciate it more in the long run.

4 pointsThat steering wheel looks like someone sewed on a Supercheap Auto steering cover over an SE wheel. Should look at M-tech2 wheels, They are nice in Alcantra (Expensive but you sound like you can afford it), Or a nice Nardi wheel..

3 pointsI have been a BMW fan for a few years now and finally got around to posting on this forum. My present car is an E60 545i 2005. Previous car was an E39 528 1999, loved that car too. I have done a few mods on my 545i: 19" DTM wheels staggered. Front Bridgestone Potenzas 245/35/R19 Rear Bridgestone Potenzas 285/30/R19 (285's are a much better fit than the 275's on the DTM wheels) Lowered within legal specs using B&G springs Bilstein shocks Chip tune + by Torque performance Character of the 'Family' the car has totally changed. I have added a few photos.

3 pointsWhat am I doing in at work at 3.30 am on a Wednesday morning ?? - looking for the expensive optical cable for the new UHD TV and sound system being delivered today. I purchased all the new cables 2 weeks ago when I ordered the TV & sounds. Removed all the old home theater, DVD player and VHS unit and cables and got the lounge all prepared for the new gear. Unpacked all the cables and the new type surge box and threw all the "empty" boxes in the bad bin at work last week------found the bitch under about 2 weeks worth of rubbish. There is probably a word that would describe this. I'm not sure if this should be a rant or the funny story for the week. Looks like RCA cables are redundant now. Just optical, HDMI, Bluetooth & Wifi. It gets expensive when you just intended to upgrade one item. A bit like stripping a car to do a water pump and end up doing water pump, thermostat, radiator, expansion tank and hoses. ....... any way Harvey Norman loves me

3 pointsI thought these online donations were more for people with out of the ordinary problems, like health complications beyond their control & couldn't afford the costs associated. I'm sure everyone would love a donation towards their car projects. I know I would.

2 pointsEasy... 2 of them. Picked up this tidy NZ-New 99' M5 today. Done 148,000kms. Ex Owner had it for 9 years with an extensive service history.
-
2 pointsI know where there is a 540 wagon if you want an m5 touring project!!

2 pointsEnd of the day it's your car. You bought it. If it was me I'd give the suspension a refresh, maybe change the brake booster to improve pedal feel and fix anything that was broken and bothered me. Then drive it.
-
2 pointsThe new one needs vanos work. Cam timing on Bank 1 suspected off and a leak coming from in between bank 2 vanos unit and cylinder head upper cover. This ones going to be a garage queen for a few weeks. One will end up being for sale.

2 pointsShould definitely be compulsory - have had multiple friends crashed into and the other party didn't have insurance, usually 20-somethings texting/not paying attention and rear-ending them.

2 pointsAll of these! There's a guy in my region that has a rare form of cancer, and the community have undertaken a massive fundraising drive to get him overseas for treatment that isn't otherwise available in New Zealand. Not him pleading for help, his friends and family doing it for him because he's too damn humble to ask for help. That is a cause worth donating to. Sorry, but if your friend sank every last cent into buying the car and had nothing left for insurance, then your friend couldn't afford the car. Life sucks. Get another job to raise the money or store it until he can afford it. But its pretty damn rich to go round with cap in hand to cover a personal shortfall caused by naivety / poor planning.

2 pointsAt least give some photos of the burnt remains, assuming there's actually a car behind this story. Your mate isn't gonna get sympathy here. Should've had insurance, sh*t happens
-
2 pointsAgree, that steering wheel looks like some one has tried to chisel a circle out of rock with a chisel and failed miserably . An mtech 2 one would go much better.
-
2 pointsGood luck, alternatively get married, get a mortgage or two if your in Auckland, fill in a few years and then tell me your dream is still alive

1 pointlol, burnt out tyres, 40L/100km and overheating.... i know what they've been upto
-
1 pointAs it's not a desirable model and it seems you paid top dollar I wouldn't spend a cent more and just enjoy driving it. Just maintain and get the most out of driving it. 17s do not suit E30s. You will also struggle to find a decent offset in 4x100.

1 pointIt's nice you are trying to help a friend but I agree with pretty much everyone else here. I find it pretty funny as well as very sad that it has become acceptable to beg for money for things like this. Dignity goes pretty much down the toilet, but that doesn't seem to mean much these days as long as you can get a dollar. Nothing personal against your friend.

1 pointThat steering wheel looks huge. Was it made from the basic E30 wheel? Tech 1 or 2 steering wheel. Better wheels and lower ride height. Paint it the factory color. Paint black or fit motorsport window trim. LSD Motorsport interior Convert to RHD (LHD is a total pain in the ass. Especially on the open road.) Look at all the bushings. Most will need attention/replacement if they are original.
-
1 pointHello and welcome to the forum their are many e30 fans here so no shortage of knowledge to call on. Looking at the photo of the car the only thing that stands out is the wheels (IMO) they just don't fit the body style. As for the steering wheel with John on that just trying to hard to be something it isn't. This is a personnel thing and at the end of the day you have the final decision all the best.

1 pointAm I the only one that thinks this listing seems a bit suspect? Surely if you're trying to flog a car for 60 grand you'd at least take a couple photos to show its condition?!
-
1 pointWent for a drive in Martin's second M5 and it seems excellent. Won't tell you what he paid but suffice to say it would make you green with envy. It's in great nick and no doubt will be even better when he's finished with it! Much jealousy!!

1 pointHave you got a getrag 260 with holes in the bellhousing (or the casting for the holes)? Thanks

1 pointDon't use a pressure bleeder unless you might want to repaint all your cars and house. Use a vacuum bleeder with a compressor Like one of these
-
1 pointNo, what I have learnt today is that I didn't know what it's worth and the level of interest has made me realise I can get more, however, i'm not interested in a protracted sale to squeeze every cent out of it, I bought a brand new VW and I don't drive this anymore so it needs to go to someone that will drive it as E30's do NOT likely being neglected.

1 pointF##king arseholes. Lowlife is an understatement. Good luck with this Dave
