3 pointsIt's the same as before but from what I can tell in my short drive it's just better in everyway. Faster gear changes Nice little blip on downshifts Smoother low rpm changes

2 pointsFixed my daily drivers factory spec CD player, replaced about 20 larger capacitors on the control board, now it can track and play CDs without skipping. Sounds so much better than the crappy JVC aftermarket unit that was put in by the previous owner. Love my 90s era Hi-Fi!

1 pointHi Guys, Im James and I too am a bimmerholic. I enjoy all things cars. I like going to drag meets, d1nz, some show and shines but to be honest with you i like it better when cars are being driven and hearing someones hard work scream. I am a registered tech at Team mcmaillan (now) Auckland city Bmw. I had a turbocharged honda civic which was light and had a decent amount down at the wheels, now I have a e39 328i on 19" chr bbs wheels. For some reason the wife thinks its all hers... funny that. And my trusty toyota surf. I look forward to trading, sharing, laughing with yous. And dribbling over your builds.

1 pointThey were selling one or two of the cars off a couple of years ago. I nearly bought a Mercedes W116 6.9. It would have made my 500SE look economical!

1 pointChipped the top of the windscreen while replacing the seal on the E39, which has turned into a crack. Shiny new glass time!

1 pointYou sir, are a brave brave (or foolish) man Whys it so stripped, did the PO get all the bits they wanted off it and then just flick the shell? The parcel tray will need to be fixed properly, with weld, as its now considered a structural element.
-
1 pointIt's not dark now. OK - it's a long way from perfect. Needs interior sorting - seats are OK at best, and drivers door card is missing Needs lots of wiring sorting. A PO must have had shares in an insulation tape company Needs rust sorting (although so far I've found only surface stuff) Needs two opening rear quarterlights Needs front and rear bumpers Needs drying out! There's a puddle in the boot, and the sound deadening under the passenger front carpet is soggy Needs a front drivers side window regulator. Currently electric - tempted to convert to manual winders... Needs a third hole in the centre of the rear parcel shelf sorting. A PO has drilled lots of holes to create this Front wings appear to have come adrift at the bottom behind the wheels Needs a screenwash bottle cap Has very little chrome trim - remove the rest, or try to find the parts to suit? (The grill is with the car, just not on it) NZTA lists this as a 1987 car, but RealOEM tells me it was made in July 1985. Carjam reckons it is NZ new, first registered 21/04/1995! Pretty sure it is ex-Japan. The wheels are Momo 16x7.5 et38 with 205/55 rear and 195/50 front tyres. I'd always planned to ditch these and fit 15x7s (et13 or so) but I'm almost ashamed to say they're kinda growing on me! One centre cap is missing And I don't like the sleeve on the spokes. Oh well... Hardly critical given everything else that needs sorting. Has one of the 'good' M10s, with L-Jet. Plan to convert to Motronic. Dash is cracked like a desert on a dry day. Again, hardly an issue that will prevent driving, but would be nice to sort this. Seat belts are pretty ratty. Again, be good to sort this. At some point, someone has either tried jacking under the spare wheel well, or backed on to something solid. Regardless, it's a little deformed and there may be an old repair in there. Similarly, it looks like someone has jacked under the centre of the passenger side sill and squashed the seam. No other damage is evident. No oil in the water or vice versa. I have a bill from a PO which suggests they were using Royal Purple oil so while it is a little rough around the edges, it may have been looked after. I'm keen to get it on the road but will need to fight myself to not pull the engine and do a thorough job!

1 pointI have been asked for information on building a stroker, the best source I have seen is http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/index.php/Building_a_2.7 there is more information out there.

1 pointI was referring to the inaccurate rumour part of the previous posts, I love the way these things get reported, distorted and turned into rumours and stories. You would have to be rather gullible to think any elected government going through such a process would be anything other than squeaky clean on such a high-profile tender. But that won't stop that gormless twat Little and his cronies trying to bash National over it I suppose??

1 pointYeah, It is a different shade but in the long run it wont matter too much and I'll align it tomorrow. I'd had enough for today..lol I'm going to swap over the right front guard and bonnet as well because it's had some backyard repairs done and those panels are full of bog. Then at some stage it'll be repainted so in the long run I'm saving by not having a panel beater work on it.

1 pointNothings ever easy. A job I thought was going to take a couple of hours ended up taking all day. Replaced the right rear door today. Discovered the donor car didn't have rear air bags so I had to swap over the doors wiring looms. And in the process pulled out the lock actuator with the loom. DON'T DO THIS. It took me over an hour to get it back in. So, the new door is on and it's nice to look at the car and not see the dent anymore. There are a couple of "buts" though. You where right Grant. It's a slightly darker silver and I never took note that the window trim on the 750i is piano black and the 728i is just black. I also didn't notice that the window is de-laminating so at some stage in the future I'll have to swap out the window and the window trim. Not looking forward to that job..lol It still needs a slight adjustment to get the fit right but I'm done for today.

1 pointCommon occurance here in NZ... apparently all BMW's are taught to swim... most only get stuck in the mud
-
1 pointThanks Chris I'm pleased you noticed the difference Always been my advice.... lifetime is bullshit... Even BMW had gearbox & diff service intervals before the advent of "lifetime oil bullshit" Oil breaks down and gets contaminated . Lifetime might only mean something to manufacturers that are engineering their vehicles to have a recycling lifetime of 3-5 years which is now happening in the industry.

1 pointI have just come across this: https://www.vhtpaint.com/products/stripfast/ All the reviews I found were positive about it so I'm going to give it a shot soon on some wheels I'm redoing and will post back results. On one video of it working it appears to work better than Tergo but we shall see.

1 pointInsurance companies are funny like that. They made more of a big deal about when I put my 15" BBS weaves on there. bout conversions and certs. The above is correct as Will has said. We can just leave it at that... unless you want to buy it Andy? Cheers Raerae
-
1 pointim sure the insurance company will have made the assumption its certed. With our silly rules, despite being all OEM parts and power level as a "real" 325i, it will still need drive shaft hoops, other than that should pass fine
-
1 pointLooking very tidy in there now Martin, you're adding value by the minute it seems!

1 pointTime for a bigger desk at this rate. Could've removed both vanos units and timing covers at the same time but didn't want to risk loosing/forgetting where I put parts in an already cluttered garage. Looks like someone put a 540i lower chain tensioner in. Although they fit and measure up the same, the M5 tensioner has more.. tension. Hopefully the new one comes in before next weekend. Previous owner fitted a new water pump and was very generous with the silicone sealant, spent a while cleaning it all off and from the thermo housing cover in the first pic. Nekk week the mail man should be delivering all the seals, sensors, tensioners, washers, bolts and Eisenmman race exhaust to put this one back on the road.
