5 pointsstep 1: Sell M3 step 2: Buy 318i step 3: With money from M3 sale buy decent suspension, engine and box, roll cage, track wheels and tyres. step 4: Count the money you saved

4 pointsI once said never, I guess never say never?? When you don't get invited for test drives, just buy one LOL. What can you do when the wife says "yep this one" His and hers : )

2 pointsI'd say hes probably looking for around 4500x $1 coins or 2250x $2 coins. Maybe he might take 9000x 50cent coins but you should probably ask him about that one.

1 point* Dont need " its a bmw shouldn't put jap carp in it" Serious question thanks Have a 03 E46 M3, Been looking at power upgrade option eg- Superchargers/ turbos. After reading about superchargers peoples general response is " it was okay" - stage 2. Regards to rhd turbo kits are rare and hard to find, could custom build a rhd kit but then some say its not worth the money for the power. Done some research and found a few people that do a 2jz swap, Yes its a toyota motor but for the price and potential power capabilities for the price it seems like an interesting route. Obviously some custom fab would be required in terms of install ( engine mounts etc). But wondering if anyone has done a 2j swap and what there thoughts are. my plans for the car is to go track orientated as I know it will be peoples first question. Cheers

1 pointSometimes you just need inspirations!! I actually think the dark blues and British racing greens are the ones that can pull the amber corners look off. I was originally thinking about it for the CSL until I googled photos of it on silver grey and promptly changed my mind!!

1 pointMaybe work out what you will get if you sold off the m3 parts that are not going to be used, like the m3 suspension, m3 interior, m3 wheels and tyres. However I suspect you wont get as much as you would selling the m3, and then buying a 318i, plus m3 diff, plus engine and box of your choice. Also if you scrape a 318i on the track, it wont be as bad as doing the same to a m3.

1 pointpipe or tube? if your after it for an exhaust etc you probably want tube. You can buy it by the metre from the likes of Forte stainless or steel and tube. Otherwise if your down in Hamilton at some stage i might be able to help.. even if it is just getting a discount

1 pointI like the one where the tyre rolls down the whole track, and the one where the guy gets out and is really angry at himself

1 pointIts pretty rare for E30s not to have them. Its mainly only povo spec 316i's that don't have sunroofs. I've driven similar spec'd E30s one with and one without a sunroof back to back and the difference in body roll is unbelievable.

1 pointYes, Because they look f**ken awesome when it's tilted up. (random google pic)

1 pointI think it might go like this (based solely on what you see around the internets): - 300rwkw - ish. Probably easiest for a basically stock 2JZ - the next 100kw - can see the s54 coming even - some point where ridiculous hp levels have already been passed - the 2JZ is much better supported so it would be cheaper* / easier / well trodden * a very relative term at that point. What I really meant was that once you go past bolt-ons for a turbo engine and start changing cams and pistons / rods, it probably doesn't cost a lot more to stick with a BMW engine.

1 pointGasket goop is awful if not used just right. I had my cam covers off last night on the 1UZ, they run a lovely rubber seal thats easily replaced if tired. Logical!

1 pointLol at Anyyone saying its a way for criminals to put plates on a stolen car/ getaway car. As if they're going to sit there and order a set of plates which is easilly traced via name/email/ip addy/cc details/whatever else, get them sent to an address that is easily tracked, and have to wait a couple weeks for them to turn up before they go and rob a gas station for $200 worth of cash/ciggys/whatever. There is no reason we shouldn't be able to run a plate that looks virtually identical to a NZ made one, provided you "own" that rego number. I remember aaaaages ago when germanplates.com had the exact NZ plates font and fern logo. Plates.co.nz quickly put an end to that. Utter PC BS

1 pointThe journalist writing that had a golden opportunity practically slapping them in the face to comment on the monopoly. Typical NZ Herald, weak reporting effort with no passion for their job. Probably hoping for another minor celebrity to fart on TV so they can pop it on their front page.

1 pointBlacked out the grille today... Only screwed up the one when I accidentally dropped washing on it.. Still looks alright!

1 pointyes but you can only get it made in the same style, otherwise its a significant cost just to change style. There is no good reason in the world it should cost $400 to change from a standard govt issue plate to a govt issue euro plate (even more insulting is the small fee to get a euro plate remade... obviously the cost to process and make the plates is less than $30, so why the extra $370?) And no, no one will come along and offer "green and yellow" plates, because its illegal. Even if someone came along and made exact copies of the legit plates ltd plates, at a lower cost, itd still be illegal... because the law states they have to be made by... plate ltd. It baffles me how theyve gotten away with this crap for so long.
-
1 pointThis will never stop criminals making fake plates for dodgy activity... theyll just make what they want and chuck them on before they do what theyre doing anyway, not drive around at the speed limit obeying all the laws in their family car, day after day, like most people with fake plates do. The whole criminal thing is just an excuse to target them. The germanplates are reflective, but yes the font is slightly different (has anyone had a speed camera ticket with their germanplates on?) and the ferns are just an anti-counterfeit measure anyway. plates ltd has a monopoly, and its criminal. its anticompetitive and not in the best interests of the public. Yes, you should still have to apply to Plates ltd to get a personalised plate (ie: not a euro govt issue plate, but an actual change of whats on the plate) but once you own the rights to the plate (govt issue or custom) you should be able to get it remade by whoever you want as long as it meets certain criteria (reflective, font, size etc).

1 pointIf it was anything other than revenue collection they would make them illegal to import.

1 pointHi all, Well Ive just come back form a successful week of racing over 1000kms over the week that is Targa NZ and Its the longest rally of its kind in the world. Between my wider family we had 5 entries of 4 BMWs (2 E30 M3's one E30 325 and my compact) and one Subaru wrx comming from Australia. The compact Finished 4th overall out of 60 something cars, my brother Carl finished 3rd in classics, My old man in the M3 had engine issues relating to oil consumption and the other M3 had a major engine mechanical problem resulting in bits of piston littering the road! Just wanted to say thanks to Ray from HellBM for his help leading up to the event, loaning my parts to hget the engine running and the offer for a new P/S pump during the event. Hes a good bugger! Kayne Barrie from Kayne Barrie Motorsport for also helping out with the power steering issue and the loan of parts. He was up out of bed until 1am on Monday helping us out. Another good bugger! Gavin Bellers from Hi Velocity for his work with the new S54 transplant, he worked through multiple problems and we've ended up with a good package fore the event. sh*t it was a long week, glad its over but man it was fun!

1 pointHey its interesting reading my original post and still never bothered to post pics. After owning for a while here are my thoughts. For city and motorway driving its fantastic. Very comfortable and fast. But you need to decide if you are a turbo kind of guy or not. Ive found that im not i prefer a high revving NA car. So im mulling over selling for something else. I hate turbo lag and when boost kicks in it throws you back and you get an awesome rush. Thats cool at traffic lights and on the motorway but in the twisties makes the car less controlled imo. After boosting you have to slam on the brakes to slow down and the car doesnt like high revving. It runs out of breath after 5K rpm. I got BMW performance suspension shocks and kept the M-sport springs. Got them for cheap from E90post forum member. If i keep the car i might get Eicbach shocks. I got the MHD tune which is very good and lot cheaper than JB4 and better since its a flash and not piggyback. Im running St 1 FMIC map which targets 18psi (stock is 8). Turns the car into a beast. If you get MHD buy it on a separate device/google account so you can sell it with the car. At 100K+ kms the shocks will probably be shot. Also replace the front suspension bits with M3 arms and rods will make a nice difference. Not huge though. But tighter steering feel. By all accounts the best mod is the rear subframe bushings. Car is squishy in the rear under acceleration and can wander a bit if going at speed in a corner. I find that quite unsettling. If i keep the car will do this at some point. Get poly bushings like powerflex which you can get in without specials tools. Hacksaw and blowtorch will get the stock ones out Car burns oil. I have to top up a litre about every 3 - 4k kms. And will leak oil. Oil filter gasket, valve cover and oil pan will probably need doing at some point past 100k kms. HPFP should not be an issue for NZ and Jap cars. Seems only an issue for US cars because of crap fuel. And my waterpump still okay at 140k kms. Intake cleaning you can diy which i recommend. Walnut blasting can clog the ports in the valve cover. Safer to soak the intake valves with a cleaner and scrub them clean/wipe up. Its a messy job but safer imo. If you like modding then get N54 engine. And M-sport. High mileage i dont think is a problem for these cars the engines are reliable. Only thing is the turbos (ignoring oil leaks, shocks, bushings). And if you are going to up the boost then you are shortening the life of them anyway. So depends on what you like. The 335i is the new supra and at some point 1000Hp will probably be reached with a single turbo conversion. New turbos are coming on the market in the states from pure and hexon. Hopefully there will be RHD options as well.
