6 pointsOil and filter change today. This is what was left of the oil filter canister mounts compared to the new ones going in. Also swapped on some new chrome. The old chrome was past it's used by date. Old. New.

5 pointsSilver are nice. Keeps the car looking fresh and clean Black is a dated trend IMO, if anything looks like you have lots of brake dust.
-
4 pointsAgree with Michael and Dion. Silver Rims and the Calipers blue would look very nice. The silver wheels stand out more where as the black sort of fades into the car. No detail as you said.

2 points15 minutes in all i can say is porsche - controlled, ferrari - raw and reckless, mclaren - loose animal (my pick) what a video.
-
2 pointsIf that was the case then I'd expect the ticking to be louder,?especially on start up until the oil was properly lubricating everything. But not the case. Significantly quieter now and maybe placebo effect but the engine seems smoother. Regular oil changes with the recommended oil seems a better plan than second guessing.

2 pointsChanged the rocker cover gasket and set the valve clearances today. Wayyy out of spec!! Engine is super clean inside though so stoked! Ordered new intake boot from Germany as mine has been siliconed to sh*t. Haha Pics

1 pointYes please don't 'stance' it and ruin the handling, I cringe seeing a nice sports car that's had it's handling ruined because someone was too obsessed with making it look 'sick' BMWs are all about the handling!

-
1 pointI agree. I'd also try priming the oil filter remote as well before removing the sump

1 pointIt seems the cheaper route is to swap in a decent m20b25. But if the rust issues are bad then maybe even swap the wheels, suspension and cosmetic stuff across to a new shell with a solid engine already in it.

1 pointi have seen 1970s Porsches with an engine hanging over the back axle get through there, you got to be something special to put a front engined BMW with all manner of driver aids into a bank

1 pointSold my manual 325 which was originally a 318 auto. Was a sedan and 99% rust free. Sold for 5k couple of months ago

1 pointMine sounds exactly like the type you're referring to, it's not for sale but I'd be looking at getting 4-5k. Maybe that's too much considering it's condition (some rust - still fixable) and kms (330,000, head gasket and associated gaskets replaced) but being a manual 325i I think it's suitable. Maybe I'm dreaming, who knows. I don't ever plan on selling it though so I won't trouble myself with the thought My point is that you're pretty much on the money saying 5k

1 pointWeow thanks everyone. Yes lock nuts.. On every bolt? I will be looking at 19x8.5 and 19x10. OEM is F41 and R27 so will drop it down to F35 and R25 for a pleasant but not too aggressive look (any wheel expert suggestions??). Not sure on weather to get a step or not within the barrell.. I spent most of my free time today comparing what looks good vs what doesn't. I'll email Harvey with the specs and get prices for what I'm after. At the end of the day, If I don't like the silver, I can always get a can of dip and do it that way. Silver is just very standard. I had this image in my head of Black with blue bolts - something very different. Tonight is a time of google.

1 pointShadow chrome finish for that colour would look stunning, still keep in with your darker theme with out looking ghetto. 19x8.5 front 19x10 rears ... any bigger and it starts to go backwards on the performance stakes. work vs-xx are a great choice of wheel, and the barrels are very stable when you hit a pot hole by mistake, keep the tires inflated to 38-42 psi and it will keep you from damaging them when you do hit something, unfortunately I say when because it doesn't matter how good you are, it does happen eventually. Also you get the nice protruding 'ring' of the lip of the tire which is key to making the car look awesome. It is an anodised coating over flow formed barrels, if you curb them, the only way to fix it is to use a very sharp cutting bit which keeps it close to the same shine. Again offset is everything, so do you research so you dont have fall back on spacers. When you order your wheel you get to choose exactly what offset you want which is awesome. Its less off the shelf and will give the car the unique look. Get some decent lock bolts for security ... unfortunitly the car will attract a lot of attention with nice dished wheels on it. Had my 19 inch Work Rezax IIs on my e46 on for 4 years and it became hard to park with always having to keep security in mind. Going the movies was even a pain. So just something to think about.

1 pointHey Brent has one he is wrecking if you know someone after some bits.... also he has some E36 and E46 bath tubs too
-
1 pointYeah its a game that takes patience but good deals do pop up, have to act quickly though. Keep in mind 320i models as an option or even 318i, you can always change the engine at a later date. These cars are like lego really.
-
1 pointsemi decent. I like that. Semi might mean lots of rust or a little bit of rust. I think the general consensus would be to find a rust free car (they exists) and tidy it up from there. The worst ones I've seen are the ones that look 'good' but upon closer inspection are pretty rusty and have had dodgy work done covered with paint etc.
-
1 pointI would have gone with the thinner stuff, even thinner again and used a semi syn, 5w-40 or 10w-40 would be ideal. While some wear might be present on the lifters / shims, I think that doesn't warrant going to a thicker viscosity of oil. If anything 20+ years of oil deposits built up have narrowed bearing journals and other places oil flows in the head etc, put thicker oil into the mix, in theory you might just end up with higher pressures and lower oil flow, especially on start up where the majority of wear takes place.

1 pointAnyways... Unsure on colour. Silver or black.. So hard. I'm liking black but like that you can see the detail of silver.

1 point3.46 was brilliant in my 5sp converted (Albeit ZF) 328 - first gear quite usable and 3k rpm at 100kph. Got better fuel economy than the jatco auto in it prior. Nice and quick too with the short ratio.

1 pointHad a brand new fenix radiator leak Worse than a sieve. Customer service were f**king retards, ended up welding it up my self - was easier than dealing with fenix. On the plus side, it cools much better than the redline one I had which would have me overheating at Hamptons in 3 laps.

1 pointHad some spare time over the weekend and decided to investigate a rattle and squeak coming from the RF wheel. Suspected Brake caliper and pad issues. Upon taking the wheel off there was a bit of play on the caliper and a pronounced rattle as the caliper was wiggled. First problem, who ever did the brake job last lubed the Guide pins. Big no no according to TIS. Cleaned. Caliper bracket cleaned and re-lubed with anti-squeal. Found some tar stuck on the piston, cleaned and lubed the piston to pad contact surface along with the other areas as per TIS. Brake pads look to be after market items. Cleaned up and lubed with anti squeal. I also measured the disc thickness in 5 different places. All areas within spec so I'll be throwing a set of OEM pads along with new guide pin bushes in the near future. Took the car for a spin afterwards, no more rattle or squeals. Job done!
