On the whole they seem to be pretty reliable but i can see why you are having heat issues. Let me know if you get fan/psu/components fail as we have those come through work and ones similar. Probably have some more blades for it too if not populated. Im sure i can donate to keep Bimmersport running.

Need 400 fans to bring the temperature down enough to get to sleep and then can't sleep because of the noise from the fans.

Ive always found the W222 looks far better in person than in photos, theyre quite imposing cars and the AMG kitted ones manage to both look classy and aggressive at the same time. BMW has always made better looking cars than Merc IMO, they always just look more solid and staunch. I know which i would take home. Gets a bit messy with the W220 and E65/66 because the 7 was just so unloved, but i think i still prefer the looks (and interior) of the BMW better.

I dunno. Just had a look at the W220 and I'm just not feeling it. But thats just me. I can see how it might appeal to others though.

Hi All Back on the E30 bandwagon after selling my '85 318i coupe. Love these little cars and have a few changes to make. It's stuck in Christchurch until I get a weekend to fly down and drive it up.

So I bought my first car on the week end, but it needs a bit of work... It's a 1985 Bronzit 525e that is half way through a manual swap, it's got manual windows and sunroof but that just means less things to break (I hope). It's a bit of a mess at the moment, most of the center console is taken apart and there is no gearbox or driveshaft in it. The previous owner has done most of the electronics and put the pedal box in.

I'm contemplating liquidating my project and moving up to an E39 530i sedan but have no idea what I'll get for the parts in my E36. I suspect the parts are more valuable than the whole, if anyone can give me an indication for what they're worth that'd help me immensely! So the list is as follows: M54B30, M50B25 intake, locked Vanos, stock cams, circa 220,000km. New HG, bolts, main belt, valves lapped, electronic thermostat replaced with 80-somethingº mechanical thermo, OEM ali thermo housing. Alternator & PS pump included, aircon deleted. Replaced head gasket for peace of mind, cylinder sleeves still had factory honing marks, head internals were nice and golden too. PO looked after it fairly well from what I could see. Megasquirt II, in as-bought condition from another member on here. Unused, I believe its configured for VR sensors but will need to confirm. 2.5" Remus muffler with 2.5" mild exhaust, Coby type resonator. I used the stock 2" downpipes from the M52B28TU type headers, 2.5" mild from where the stock pipes merged. Was planning to run S50B32 headers but they need quite a bit more work to have them clear the trans tunnel brace so decided to go with something simpler to start with. Getrag 220 conversion package with DM flywheel & clutch, driveshaft, pedal box, UUC clutch stop. Also have an M20 flywheel & starter. Medium case 3.15:1 LSD M-sport spec Koni front shocks (less than 5000km since fitted), full Eibach spring set (20mm drop from memory) and Bilstein rear shocks. Other ancillary parts like gearknobs, spare M50B25 manifold & throttle body, complete M50B25 with DME, M54B30 intake mani with throttle body, spare drive by wire gas pedal, alternators, starter motors, and all the other bits that make up an E36. I'm quite close to having this back on the road, just need to build the extra ignition circuits and tune it really. I'm not yet 100% committed to swapping cars yet, I have an idea what I'd like for all the parts but I want to hear what the market thinks they're worth before I make the call Thanks!

I ordered some Koni's through GeorgeStock in Auckland recently, the price on those seemed reasonable. I ended up returning them for other reasons, so I'm currently looking at ordering from dcperformance in the UK, as their prices work out to be rather reasonable. http://www.dcperformance.co.uk/uprated/koni-sport-front-dampers/BMW/5-series-e34.html

It's just a myth I always believed. Just did some reading and it sounds like letting the car idle doesn't help it much. Actually running the car warms things up properly. Thanks for the advice!

C'mon guys - you' know I'm a man o' me word. Please don't make me unpack the back of the garage (moving two cars and assorted gearboxes and interiors) to take some pics of the wheels. If I'd recalled how deeply they're buried I probably wouldn't have started this thread!

Hello everyone, long time no new topic Keen to figure out how many NZ New Topaz there are wandering the streets of NZ. I know of one other in Auckland which is ex-Japan owned by a friends friend (how it normally is) but other than haven't heard or seen of any others. The colour was discontinued mid 2003. Any help appreciated

When I searched W222 I came up with these. Not to my tastes at all. The one you posted however is much better. My tastes tend more to the older cars..

Now in HELL renewing an old association with us. 2.7 stroker with a schrick cam. A reasonably easy car to breathe life back into. Watch this space.

in saying that too, the F01/02 vs W222 would have to go to the Merc, the BMW looks kinda bland in normal spec.

I saw a W222 S600 going down the road yesterday. Classy and elegant is what comes to mind. Unbelievable engine performance too for a non AMG, V12 biturbo 523 hp @4900–5300, 830 N·m @1900–4000 It needs it though, 2,300kg to haul around. Still great figures though, 227hp / Tonne 360nm / Tonne That's shifting for a big barge

The W222 is a thing of beauty, especially in AMG form. All the other just look really dated. Its a shame there really was no M Performance model of the E38, something with a bit more grunt. The MSport ones had the interior and suspension a bit better, but still had the same engine as everything else.

No doubt the E38 is the best looking of them all. I don't know what happened with the W140, it doesn't look like anything other than a grotesque lard with the 3 pointed star on the front. Sad when the W126 had real flare and style... The replacement W220 was quite bland too, I'd avoid one of those like the plague, even with the S55 version. Problems for days! W221 finally go its act together, but like new cars I'm sure we have yet to see what these are like long term. E38 still wins as far as I'm concerned. Some of the 90s Jaguar XJRs are a cool subsitute though, big and long with classic styling, X300 and X308 chassis particularly.

2016. It's been pretty crap so far. I'm taking next week off to see if starting over in February improves things.

Thats true. But sometimes you want a car to look good as well as go fast. The E38 might not be the fastest but IMO it's got the looks covered.. The Merc just looks

Thrashed it. Took the 750i for a long drive to my sisters today. She's about 40mins out into the country on deserted roads with tons of hills and corners. I know this road like the back of my hand and as I haven't been comfortable driving the 750i as hard as I would the 740i I decided to find my limits in the car. All I can say is WOW. Turn on the S/EDC, put in Sport mode and gradually pushed myself and the car. The torque from the V12 just eats up the hills and surprisingly(to me) it cornered well too.Stinking hot day so super sticky tar might have helped a bit..lol The harder I pushed it the more planted it felt. Probably the fasted trip I've made out to my sisters. I'm going to have to do something to increase the volume/noise of the exhaust though. Would've been nice to hear the V12 roaring through the hills.

ugh, my 523i was one of the most tragic cars i have owned, it really couldnt get out of its own way... The engine was under powered in the E46 let alone E39.

wish they did a 730i with the M54B30, still 6 but with a touch more grunt.

While the big ol' wheels and stance don't rock my boat, I can't fault your attention to detail. Nice work and such a beautiful colour.
