So it's been an interesting couple of months bits and pieces going backwards and forwards. Little work has happened on the poor e30 lately but now it's time to start getting stuck in. After a nice engine and gearbox came up for a good price it was my original choice of power plant. So fresh into the new year I purchased a getrag 420g and m60b30. After hours and hours researching clutches finally speaking to Darren at nzad have nailed down a single mass flywheel and clutch he has produced. Considering sticking with the b30 and humming and not really being satisfied a few quick phones calls and I now have the big brother. A bit of wheeling and dealing and I'm back to square one. Time to get the welding gear out and make some progress. A pelican parts order and get the motor cleaned up and off to see Kerry for some knowledge and parts

I'm just using the mister from my grow room and extraction fan from my meth lab. Damn it, the drugs can wait, I need to sleep! And the kids don't need the extractor in their bedroom anyway, they don't sleep at all. Ever. Crazy that, not sure why.

I'd luv this set up but when I called Woolf Mufflers they couldn't remember what they'd done to it. Same car.

Now in HELL renewing an old association with us. 2.7 stroker with a schrick cam. A reasonably easy car to breathe life back into. Watch this space.

Hi All Back on the E30 bandwagon after selling my '85 318i coupe. Love these little cars and have a few changes to make. It's stuck in Christchurch until I get a weekend to fly down and drive it up.

Just finished making up my bait launcher canon proto type. Fired it tonight at 100Psi and achieved approx 200m outside the house with a lemon mounted in the barrel. The barrel length / pressure needs to be fine tuned. I know alot of these are for sale and have been made., but mine can safely be used at higher pressure due to the materials I have used and the way I have modified the sprinkler valve firing mechanism. I've made it to breakdown for cleaning and easy storage and so far it's hand held but will be building a launching pad/ rod holder and bait station. The barrel is 40mm and will have frozen bait bullets to include, sinker 2 baited hooks, traces and berley to make the bullet. Safety systems are built in and all gear apart from the barrel are 200psi rated. The safety valve is 150psi

I stick with the cheap $20 candybar form phones. They suck, but this farmer once killed 3 bigger IP67 rated phones in a year

Nice, I love the sound of the idle in the first clip above. Unfortunately the second vid betrays the tuning (there's none) and there's both drone and reverberation, you don't want that. Good engines deserve a tuned exhaust.

Sweet, will do, thanks guys. Yeah this was the best 3 series I could find. Girlfriend is a bit annoyed at the engine size but it's costing me a lot less to drive in than bus in, which I endured for five years when my last car was stolen.

yea listen to glenn and do the oil and filter again with the right oil and genuine filter. it might seem like a waste as the service was just done but trust me it will be money well spent. also good on you for getting a 323 not a 320. big thumbs up!

Definitely go for the intermarque sprints this year. Follow some similar cars, learn some lines. I had an old dig passenger in my car first time out and teach me basic lines etc, was awesome.

Actually. Ron you are wrong and I did a typo earlier. top hat is the spinny piece at the top. the upper strut mount I actually typo'd when i said that before. the drop hat is the top spring purch (or perch) to prevent the spring from toching the spinning top hat. which when using an E90 one on an E30 setup lets the spring sit up closer to the top hat.

So yesterday I reassembled the transmission after I cleaned the parts in trans oil. The valve body was a challenge to reassemble but I really enjoyed it and learned a lot. I took lots of photos to help put things back correctly and this thread was helpful; http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1000845 New gasket and filter went in, and today I will attempt to refit it along with the entire cooling system, driveshaft assembly, fluids etc. Big day. And yes, I do drive like a nana.

Getting a drop of atf in my eye. And then the head of the bolt breaking. All of this is in the gravel at pick a part. The joys of working on cars lol

Zimbabwe88 - There have been two main pieces of advice in this thread; (A) chuck in a cheap used auto trans. or (B)do an engine and trans swap with the m54 I have in my parts car. I cant afford the money or time to do the m54 swap, much though I would prefer it. So I will be buying a cheap used auto to swap in, and while I try and scrape some money together to buy one I am flushing the one I have to get a month or two's usage out of it. I already had bought a bunch of parts (the day before the trans crapped out ironically) to do some planned maintenance on my car, so am doing them at the same time where it makes sense to do so. I really DO value the advice from the community. I even had one member (who I had never met in person) offer to come and look at the car the very next day. I've had offers of free or discounted parts, and another forum member has spent several days helping, including driving to Albany to pick up parts while I'm at work. This community has really blown me away

am i the only one curious to see how long the trans lasts? Its costing nothing but fluids, filter, time and pain, so not a huge deal of harm to try.

Been a while since I've updated this. The cars been going well. Been driving it quite a bit in some of this good weather we've been having. I've sorted out some of my wheel rubbing issues. I've also replaced my RHR window motor so all 4 now work, It's my favourite part of the car. Here's some pictures from a couple weeks ago taken after a Legit/Split meet. Enjoy

Put the engine back in the hole, put the driveshaft in and the driveshaft universals were on a sh*t angle so had to modify the gearbox crossmember and raise the gearbox. Trimmed the alternator to clear the chassis rail: Dropped the engine back in the hole and mounted the oil filter: I removed some unneeded interior items and mounted the ECUs: Removed the diff and made sure it will spin both wheels: Not a lot of time left before I have to have this running, havent got much done over the last few weeks because of tech and work :/
