I had my coils, plugs and belts changed as well as a service. Actually surprised at the difference it made to be honest but with the car approaching 100k kms it was due. Much smoother idle and more confident starting if that makes sense. I actually thought the car was running fairly well before... Goes to show, sort your stuff before it breaks. Now good for the next 100,000!

results of oil analysis back today, lead level is high, copper is quite low, so bearings have started to wear but are not terminal. Sodium level is also elevated which can be caused by coolant contaminating the oil (or about 4 other things) but water was 0%. Recommendation is to drain and replace the oil (due now anyway) and retest ASAP to monitor levels. Bearings will be getting replaced.

Hi All, I've finally managed to get started on my midlife crisis... with the purchase of a 2002 Z3 3.0i Roadster in Cosmos Schwarz. Never really had a decent car in the past, always driven practical family wagons, or petrol savers, so really looking forward to enjoying a little bit of silliness on the weekends. The car is a definitely not new, it has some pretty heavy stone chipping on the bonnet, and rear wheel arches. Its also got some strong swirl marks and scratches in the paintwork from rough cleaning. The Softtop could do with a refurbish and the back windows cloudy, and I've got some work to do to bring the interior up to a high standard... but it'll give me something to do, and practice on, without being scared of breaking the bank. I intend doing an upgrade to the exhaust. Its stock exhaust is just a little to gentrified for me, Id like it to let people know its not its smaller brother (the 2.2 version) without shaking the house to bits every time i start it up I am probably also going to put some new 18'' wheels on when the rubber next needs replacing, and maybe a few other little upgrades.

Hi all, Just acquired a stock 1999 E36 318ti M-Sport as a DD for now, it runs well but I have interests to work on it further along the way... just in research phases as the moment and joining forums etc. So far I've just done a restoration the foggy headlights, pulled apart, cleaned and reassembled - will add pics soon. I have one Q thou, does Bimmersport NZ have a forum app or can someone recommend a good app for iPhone that allows you to add several forum accounts to it? Cheers, d///M

Hey guys. So I saw this guy had successfully made an adaptor plate for the bell housing and an adaptor plate to use the 1UZ flywheel to a BMW clutch plate etc. He used a Getrag 260 5 speed. I'm thinking of going down this road for my car over winter, rather than use an overpriced Toyota gearbox and parts. What BMW getrag gearbox would the one of choice for this engine? I see theres a heap of ones to choose from, 250s, 260s, 270s, 320s etc.

The US uses a different AM frequency step... coz you use AM all the time anyway

Your thought is correct, different parts of the world use different frequency ranges for commercial radio broadcsts and radio units are made accordingly, that is why you need a band expander on jap imports to listen to NZ radio stations. There is some overlap, I think the UK uses a very similar range to us, but some time with google might tell you more.

Funny how time flies and never did get it done last year. Life has many twists and turns, and funnily enough, i have a child on the way due in May which has given me a kick up the arse to get it done so I can cart baby around. Probably need to rename the tread now haha Conversion is all done, went to start it for the first time only for the fuel pump to have failed. A new 2nd hand one and fired up straight away for the first time in 3 years. Just waiting on a new master clutch cylinder before taking it on a drive.

It’s not as bad as you’d think - I got all the parts in from the US in advance. I would say all up the parts and shipping would have been about $650 or so. Putting in was a couple of hundred more, probably because the back coil is a bit difficult. So I would say the 100km service if you want to call it that was somewhere in the region of $1500. Still a chunk of change but over the life of the car it’s not too much really. Having the luxury to plan in advance is good - a Contitech belt is some $15USD plus shipping. Much more here, it’s a joke really. Likewise spark plugs $8USD a piece for a good quality Bosch iridium or platinum one, hate to think what they are here. Best example would be the oil filter - my mechanic charged me $41 for it. They can be had for $10USD offshore. I feel a bit embarrassed taking those along so I suck up the extra $20NZ!

yeah, what Pete said We do a lot of organising out of the club, stand up events, they have cover under the NZ Club mantle, and we extend to Bimmersport acknowledging it's one big community and not everyone joins the club. As Pete indicates, we're an inclusive bunch and (fortunately) we're not yet faced with the challenge of events becoming 'too big', despite growing quickly.

I've weaned myself off US purchases currently; may give comgateway a go in future. I get 2 day US shipping free from FCP as a priority customer, and combined with 4 days on FedEx and sharp rates it's often better for me than UPS to Wellington from FCP. That said, I need a sunroof seal and rear window trims/seals... next order most likely plain vanilla UPS from FCP.

As pictured here I have a staggered set of 19x9 and 19x10 style 132 wheels off my x5. They are not perfect. Previous owner has curbed one or two of them but these fit good on a number of vehicles with the right offset. They are et48 on the front 19x9 and et45 on the 19x10 rears. One rear tyre is shot and one is borderline. Fronts are about 4 to 5mm tread. Pickup in Glenfield. 02102916373. Pics of them on e90 and e46 for reference. If they don't sell I will fit them to our e46 touring or my e46 coupe. Something different compared to the style 95s. Also can come with a full set of 255/50/19 inch tyres for asking price. 6 mm tread

Bought myself another E30 M3!! Unofrutnately it's only a 1:24 scale plastic model kit, but at least it is an M3. I can add it to the long list of cars I have in bits at the moment as well! A project for the cold, dark winter nights.

It's getting up there in terms of price for a non-limited edition E30 M3, but looks to be a very good, and sympathetic restoration. So, to the right buyer, with a little bit of negotiation that would be a reasonable buy in today's totally sky-high E30 M3 market. However, whether Jonny 4 stars from CHCH is a serious bidder, and can affort to go through with his bid on TradeMe may be another completely seperate conversation. My instincts would say, probably not!
