Offered a job today! Will be great to be doing something again as I haven't worked since the start of lock down. Also means I can get the e30 "finished"

BBS Germany though, BBS Japan is where all the fancy forged wheels come from and they're trucking along just fine.

Anyone else aware of this function?

If you don't mind doing it yourself and if you're like me and actually enjoy the process, I don't see any real need for ceramic. Modern good sealants (spray or liquid) are extremely easy to apply and can last 3+ months, much longer if you're topping up or using SiO2 wash or spray wax regularly. My process now is to clay and light polish, IPA wipe down and apply sealant every 6 months, wash every week or two and use a topper (little more sealant or spray wax) every month. I use a bit of spray wax with Carnuba in it when drying too to help drying and put a little more gloss on it. Car looks amazing almost all the time, and I park on the street.

I'm almost interested in asking for a test drive... and rocking up in mine. "So, are they reliable cars?" ??

LOL I saw this one too a while back, the two exhaust tips on the right where literally just stuck on to the bumper. Couldn't believe what I was seeing ? Don't recall the stickers, must have been added on since.

If it's anything like my E36 M52B28 it will be plenty loud with just the muffler replacement. I got a twin pipe perforated straight through muffler from Chase to replace the rear one on mine and it sounds fantastic. If you just want noise I doubt you'll need to do anything further. I do like Zero's suggestion about gutting the cats though, might look into doing that.

E90, complete with M stripes, nurburgring stickers, and quad remus exhaust tips... RH side ones didnt go anywhere and appeared to be glued on, but I appreciate the effort in keeping that much thrust balanced.

Yes, I would recommend gutting as opposed to deleting as the gutted cat then acts as a partial resonator to remove unwanted tinny noises. Also I think it looks cleaner. And use headers from I think the s52.

Sorting out the rear door vapour barriers (VB’s). They started leaking about 3 years ago, but not bad enough to soak the carpet thankfully. Back then i decided to use some butyl mastic in a caulking gun which turned out to be a temporary fix. This attempt I’ve decided to go with the official bmw procedure using new VB’s as the old ones I couldn’t bear cleaning off old butyl. Below is a description of the procedure. So starting with removing the old VB I then heated up and scraped off as much butyl as possible from the inner door panel. Using a rag and some prepsol I managed to fully clean off all the old butyl followed by a wipe down of the contact area with isopropyl. Then apply fresh butyl tape to the VB leaving the wax paper on. Offer it up to the door panel. Peel the wax paper off as you press down until the VB is fully attached to the inner door panel. Heat up the perimeter of the door panel and use a seam roller to press down on the butyl for good adhesion. Instructions say to let the butyl “set” for 5 hours before doing and load tests (i.e leak test, open/closing door). Fingers crossed this is a lasting repair.

With some sadness it’s gone ? to make way for a new chapter in my car passion/obsessed life.

All those out there running BBS RS reps on their E30s take a long hard look at yourselves. See what you have done!! But seriously, I would suggest trying to compete against the reps / fakes / copies is proving harder and harder for them. Not sure which (if any) of the current BMW wheels are BBS as OE, will have to try to find time to have a look see.

Good call. I've been running F1's for years on my M3 and have no complaints.

It fluctuates a lot, between 80 and the highest ive seen is like 105, you can watch it change modes in realtime during an italian tune up (where it drops temps the more "italian" the tune up )

no sorry , and all manual parts get sold a kit , just buy a new one from bmw etc

Thanks for that @Olaf - will definitely have a read through. im not entirely sure which service it went through but they changed the oil and filter etc, and did quite a thorough check for bits and pieces. Turns out the oil level sensor will need to be changed. Sensor is saying there is too much oil in the tank, but the manual reading says it’s just right. Interestingly the part will cost me $400 or so. I did a quick search online of the job and it’s rather straightforward. Unfortunately I don’t have the tools nor space to DIY, so will take it in. something else that’s interesting is that I found contrary to popular belief, my service at Continental was cheaper than at any of the Indy’s. Perhaps I’ll get my work done by Indy’s and services done by Continental. I was smart enough (after hearing many a stories about BMW’s) to purchase an Autosure MBI policy - sure it added $2k onto the purchase price, but to know that most things that can go wrong (from what I’ve read) could cost in the thousands to repair, it was a no brainer!

Hi Guys, Newbie here to the wonderful world of BMW's. Purchased my first one in December - a slick looking 2009 E61 550i (which I have named Bindy - LOL yes, I name my cars). Not long after I bought it, it had to go through the dreaded valve stem seal replacement (which thankfully was covered under the dealer warranty). I've had the radio updated to NZ frequencies, and have tinted the windows to as legally dark they can go. Main reason for purchasing the vehicle was for work; travelling around the country for events and concerts, so needed something that would perform well on the roads, have plenty of space for equipment/gear, and look the part for my corporate side of work. I will continue to follow this forum for tips on maintenance and general care for this beast of a wagon! - Jimmy

At these prices I would be buying a B5 Audi RS4. Possibly not as desirable but equally rare and special.

Blue / caramel interior E39 M5 spotted on SH1 southbound in J'ville around lunchtime today. Looked very nice - Euro plate with BM as first two letters. Didn't get much of a look at it, was long gone once got past the speedcamera in Ngauranga gorge. Belong to anyone on here?

Went to see my ex.. It has come up for sale as the guy I sold it to traded it in for an Evo8. Was hoping to maybe buy it back if it was still in good condition but idles rough, engine rattling a bit and turbo/wastegate sounds a bit weird too. Just not the same as when I had it a year ago so had to walk away. A real shame really.. its come up for a good price $20990 which is a bargain for the spec.

4 or 5 years? ? Are you mad? You could put it in a time capsule and it might not last that long. It absolutely does look f'ing amazing when applied, better than a new car. That's why it sells. You're paying for 4 year "protection" and you're getting a max of 9 months, it's bollocks. Seriously, if it were that good it would already be on every surface we can see. Every window on every building would be coated with it, it would literally save hundreds of millions of dollars. Not so much, it's simply not magic, look it up.

Do NOT pay detailer prices, the mark-up is like 1000%. Just buy the stuff from eBay at like 30 bucks and apply it yourself. And keep in mind that, compared to the promises made, it's pretty much snake-oil. Just look it up.

Hopefully they don't get bought out by a corporate vulture company and start getting made in China...
