Euro Italian would be my pick for local parts. Gavin is great to deal with. Based on the North Shore.

This is an excellent example of an E39. Meticulously maintained and seriously loved. All major issues already addressed. GLWS

Got some new cluster rings. Wasn't sure I'd like the chrome over the matte silver but it's growing on me. Gave it a wash today. It will definitely benefit from a cut&polish but I'm holding out for my mate who's starting up a detailing business. I've done all the graphic design for him so all 3 of our cars are getting done as payment. Really looking forward to seeing what he can do with it. And a snap from on the way to dinner tonight. I wish I knew how to use the pro setting of the phone camera ? As a side note I'm getting more nervous about timing chain guides. I need to stop reading about them! There's no alarming noises but it's just in the back of my mind. We're building next year so I'm planning to do it after we've shifted so I can take my time. Wife requires my attention to remain firmly on finishing renovations on our house before we sell so hopefully they hold together!

They have converted two of my cars to manual - 'drive in - drive out' no issues whatsoever, perfect.

I buy a lot of my BMW parts from MillAnd in Dunedin. You can get BMW, OE or aftermarket parts and the prices and delivery are OK. I like supporting the local guys

If you keep up with the complete fluid replace every few years then any hydroscopic properties are likely not worth it. Interestingly BMW often specify the DOT 4 Low Viscosity fluid...which when I went to the dealer for it they initially told me "they don't sell it"...then when I produced a BMW part number they they were surprised saying "nobody never bought that before" Apparently there is "need" to run the LV fluid with BMW ABS/Traction Control ...but frankly I'm certain garages the world over have been putting in regular DOT 4 forever without ill effect.

When I can't wait and for smaller items, gaskets , solenoids etc. 'alleuroparts' have been okay for me locally. They are all over the place on pricing though, but I've had good results sending them a parts list and asking for 'their best price' .... but FCP euro otherwise. EDIT: for the 'big ticket' items HPFP, Injectors, Water pump...FCP etc is going to beat anywhere in NZ by a mile. Also FCP's lifetime warranty thing which I've never had cause to test is apparently the biz.....

I like those wheels to be honest ? worth a pretty penny too, but I would probably go back to an oem eventually.

I’ve found genuine bmw parts are cheaper on Schmiedmann vs fcp euro. But for good aftermarket fcp euro is better.

Tailgate struts replaced with new genuine items, bit annoying to do but worth the effort, don't know if the spring broke while I was removing it or some time previously, most expensive job so far!

Cross check FCPEuro with Schmiedmann.com, prices can go either way and FCP doesn't have some Euro specific parts. I just picked up some rotors from here: Spareto.com as they had the best total price for heavy items.

Hard to sell that wagon with those wheels IMO. Someone at a wheel centre has seen him coming!

@NZ_InFerno Rockauto is a terrible website for sharing links haha, but you can search easily by part numbers. The DMF is "DMF082" and the clutch kit is "03-059" Such a shame BMW is starting to shutdown these websites. First the VIN decoder sites, now newtis.info. Really hope they don't start going after the ETK websites like realoem next. These sites are such a big reason why I love owning BMW!

Used to use the Castrol but its get real expensive if you do a few cars or didnt quite have enough. Penrite superdot has similar specs iirc and is far better value in the 4.4L bottle esp when on special.

@martyyn I'd recommend Fibrenew, Welly franchisee is club member Andrew Thomas, well regarded and exceptional work. My e60 steering wheel is like new, @TermiPeteNZ had X5 seat bolster repairs... let him know you're a club member. https://www.fibrenew.co.nz/wellington/photos/11-leather-redyeing-repair/ Atop that, he's a top bloke too!

@leichtbau Yes it was there. It is also in immaculate condition.

Very much so it would seem. Right buyer and right car for it to sell "inside an hour" but I know 4-5 people who would have tendered offers over the next few days, so the buyers are absolutely there for the right cars. @ctho was the M325i there when you collected? I understand that'll be a $40K minimum proposition.

As an M3 is above $90k; and a good ///M325i coupe is $50-60k now... then a tidy 318iS is absolutely worth $20k. Check out the prices of tidy collectible non-garage Queen 318iS in USA where they are relatively plentiful!

Annoyingly the windows don't power up when you open the door, unlike the e36. Not sure why, that's dumb really.
  30. 1 point
Better habit to get into is to always leave the drivers window down when working on the car. Standard practice for most mechanics for that reason.
