There are groups of people, organisations and individuals in this country, so insulated from the ugly realities of life, that they think they can change the course of human development by making a bunch of regulations forcing people to be nice to each other. When you consider that after 4000 or so years half the world is still tearing at each others throats, I find it somewhat naive for anyone to think that human nature can be regulated. Perhaps we can teach all NZers to respect other cultures, people, their property and ideas ? Perhaps I would feel better if a large person holding a weapon was to say to me... Pardon me sir, but due to certain exigencies of a personal nature, I would be sincerely grateful if you would surrender to me your car keys and your wallet. Due to certain traumatic events in my formative years and a lack of community support, I have developed certain disquieting personality disorders that prevent me from achieving my full potential as a person. I apologise in advance for any pain or psychological damage that you may suffer as a result of my unsolicited request, and trust that you will not prejudge me because of my race, religion or appearance. Hey... lots of luck with reforming society... but base instincts are base instincts and they are born anew with each generation. Cheers...

Hi E30 and BMW Members . I have been trying to find out more information about the New Zealand E30 M325i M Tech 1 . If Possible I would like to know how many of these model where sold in New Zealand . I have some information which I have from other Web Site which Read as follows . In New Zealand, where the M3 was never officially sold, the local importer created a sporting version of the sedan called M325i. About 100 such cars were imported beginning in late 1986 until at least 1990. Fitted with the standard non-catalyzed 171 PS (126 kW) 2.5 litre engine they benefitted from a Motorsport fettled suspension, the M-Technic body package, 15-inch BBS cross-spoke wheels with wide, low profile (225/50) tyres, and a limited-slip differential. The M325i is quite similar to the British market 325i Sport, also developed as a response to the absence of a right-hand-drive M3. Is this Accurate for the Total number including M Tech 2 . I have found other Information which says "I have been told that only 298 models of the 1987 right hand drive M-tech 1 were ever made before they switched to the M-tech 2 making it a seriously rare beast indeed, and after the M-tech 2 which sold a lot more was done the next M3 was produced in right hand drive too making it pointless carrying on the M-tech line " Is this Accurate for the Total number of M Tech 1 Made and if so how many M-Tech 1 are in New Zealand. Thanks in Advance

Thanks for the Advise I did have a look and there was not a great deal on the Tech 1 specifically . But a lot of comment about the Price and Value what you could buy them for 3 Years ago . This car is a bit different from most as it was a 1 Owner car I bought it just before the Red Tech 2 Car Sold . I am associated with the original Owner when he decided to sell it changed hand out of sight of the normal Market as he did not want people to come over and drive it and tire kick so to speak. I paid the asking price did not even try to negotiated because of the condition of the car. It has been serviced by the same dealer from new . It is fully document with original purchase Invoice and all the items that came with the Car it even has every WOF paper from the last 35 Years. It is Eligible for the Concours Survivor class this year which is where it will be entered and this is still in Original unrestored condition. Drives like a new car and it will get used but not Abused.

Oh dear... I must have touched a nerve then... sorry about that But I say what I think and if anyone disagrees with my opinions they are welcome to voice an opposing view. An opinion is not worth holding if it cannot stand up for itself in open debate. And if my opinion is defeated in honest combat with well considered, technically correct, logical and skillfully presented arguments, then I will graciously admit defeat. Cheers...

If you really want to do regular track sessions, you can either pour away money to make a street car survive the track.... or you can get a car that's track capable in the first place. E46 M3 or E90 if the budget allows... all they need is track brake pads and you're set. 135is and 335is are awesome fun cars but aren't really built for abuse on the track, and tuning them just increases the issues. Jake1829 here has made his into a good track toy but at a very high cost

SMG3 in the E50 M5 is a bit sh*t. It's not great at low speed or full throttle. The Maser version is a lot better but I think it burns the clutch to smooth out the experience. The clutch also costs a fortune. Both are definitely not automatics in their driving characteristics.

Times change... 120 deg used to be considered a safe max but a bit of digging shows that the N54 is apparently designed to run hot. In the warmer climate of the US of A temps of 130-132 are not considered unusual when pushing the car reasonably hard. I also read that if you reach 160 the car will go into limp-mode ? After that I went and checked to see if my car has the factory oil cooler, and it does Apparently some earlier models did not get the cooler. Considering that the gauge temp is likely the pan temp, oil temp in the bearings can be 20 deg higher. So safe to say that the N54 works the oil pretty hard and if you go racing you want to have some fresh high quality stuff in the pan. High temps degrade the oil fast and since your oil is the only thing between the bearings and disaster, it is not something to cheap out on. Cheers...

I'm guilty of it myself occasionally but does everybody realise that referring to China in the way that this thread does is certifiably racist? Any country can make crap products and often quality control is a reflection of the demands put upon the manufacturer, not the capability of the manufacturer (or their staff). Apple's products are all made in China and are rarely considered poor quality (whether you think they suck or not). 🤔 NB: I'm anti-woke and don't think cultural (mis)appropriation is a thing, I'm just pointing at a turd and calling it sh*t.

Welcome to the forum That's a nice looking car. If you are interested in going out for drives with other BMW owners, keep a eye on the Christchurch section of the Meetings forum: https://bimmersport.co.nz/forum/27-christchurch/ The Christchurch club has a pub night chat every month. Hey, the next one is tomorrow 5th May. Plus there is a monthly car run. Regards Murray

I am pretty sure this previous owner of this car was asking for advice on what price he should list this car for. I think it got sold pretty quickly for around $14k mark.

And that 330 WILL NEVER be an e34 M5! Agree with you on what you’ve said - well put 👍

That looks fantastic. Really. Hats off to you for doing a DIY. A lot of people (myself included) either wouldn’t know where to start or would chicken out at the first bump in the road during the process. Seeing it through and coming up with something that looks like this, you should be proud. I have to ask though, are there any remaining bits of the interior which are sort of amplified given that you have done the seats, wheel and other trim? Sort of like painting half your house and then the original bits which have aged are really noticeable.

Finally, after letting it all dry / cure for 5-6 days, I reinstalled the interior (not much fun), gave her a good groom and a photo shoot. I'm stoked with the colour and quality, there are a few tiny areas where I would have liked to do a better job but you would only notice by having it specifically pointed out and eyeballing from 6 inches - for day to day use it perfect and my wife thinks I'm crazy to think otherwise. The colour is a great, classic navy / tan combo with the orient blue and IMHO has enough wow factor without getting into 'marmite' territory. Only issue I've run into is my airbag light is now on, I believe due to switching the passenger and driver seat bases with the passenger occupancy sensor no longer in play. Hoping I can clear that and get the sensor delete thing from Ebay / TradeMe. I'm a little anxious to see how this wears - supposedly should be good for years (we can but hope) - at least this car rarely see's passengers and I now have the perfect colour match for any driver seat touch ups that may or may not be needed in the future. Its been finished 3 weeks with daily driving and several beach trips (i.e. wet, salty bums) and looks perfect. Final pics once completed - looks and feels better than most new cars inside now.
