I'm selling my trusty and much loved 550i M-Sport E61 Touring. I needed to get a 4wd for our lifestyle block and I sadly don't have space for my wagon. This is an excellent sport/family wagon that does pretty much everything well. This is a great tow car with self levelling suspension and Westfalia tow bar with both 50mm and 1-7/8 removable tongues. The original matt black aftermarket (came with the wagon) kidney grills were pretty busted up, missing tabs and just looking average in comparison to everything else. So I ordered a replacement set of aftermarket grills that I think work with the colour of the body - obviously these can be replaced with factory items if I was ever so inclined to fall in line with the anorak brigade. In doing so I found that someone had double sided tapped the remote radar detector to the radiator slam panel behind the bumper pointing towards the ground, - cause that how it works.......... So after much faffing about I used some 3m chewing gum tape and mounted it correctly along with the laser jammers in to the grill. (All of this gear came with the car - it just was incorrectly installed / reinstalled at some point in its life. ) While I was poking around I checked the coolers for any o-ring leaks, all good but the usual birds nest of rubbish between the oil cooler and the radiator. Gave that valley a good vac and cleaned up the excess wiring loom for the radar etc. This was meant to be a 20 minute job, but between starting at midnight on saturday, trawling through install manuals for the radar to find the mounting position recommendations and being distracted by Top Gear Youtube I finally finished and cleaned up at 2:45am. Pretty happy with the look. Off to get the new rear tires in the morning.

Rotors, its designed for you to have a looksee at them, get frustrated and snip stuff There is also flag for brake fluid.

I’m selling a set of four Style 67 wheels. These are the front wheels off an e46 M3, which runs a staggered setup of 18x8 front and 18x9 rear. Quite excited to be a part of the community and to learn so I can enjoy getting to grips with my new weekender. Pictured here is my son straight of the test drive when I decided to buy it. Curious, is there a way to tell if my car was originally a 3.0 and had an engine swap or if the car always was a 2.5 with 3.0 badges added? I’ve Googled and checked the stamp on the engine and it’s definitely a 2.5. Thank you for reading!

Usually speaking, there is only a "generic car parts cover" with a total of $2000 on a contents policy unless specifically agreed with your insurance company.... ask me how we know, our garage burnt down 8 years ago pays to make a phone call and find out

Hi All, New to the group, have owned several 3 series got my love for BMW when I was working as a mechanic on them many years ago. Finally got a 3 wagon it's stock which suits me fine as it is a daily and I do some decent kms in it. I dont treat it precious, and the car takes whatever I can give it. I am still not man enough to go full manual on a few roads yet, I believe I will run out of talent or traction before I run out of power.

I'd probably skip the cheapest of the cheapest when it comes to brakes.

Can do. When I was looking for my replacements I discovered there are some dirt cheap pads on rockauto(probably terrible quality) if you need a temporary fix.

Annoyingly I discovered today that the 130i has both pad wear sensors and a distance-based alert (why?). Removed the rear wheel, inspected the pads and sensor, all looked fine so I assumed the sensor was faulty, clipped the end off and connected the two wires, restarted the car, same error that wouldn't clear. Subsequently found the place to reset the OBC which cleared the error... sensor was probably fine all along. If both systems are required (again why?) then the OBC should at least distinguish between the two when it tells you one of them has been triggered.

Have trailer, will increase scope of garden projects. Lol good to see all the lights working

They tow very well, I usually use manual mode or turn the SMG up to a more aggressive setting so it's not riding the clutch as much, and of course put it in P500 to compensate for the extra weight,!! 😉

E46 Manual M3? They definitely are not $80k in Oz. My brother couldnt get an offer over $25k in Perth about 6weeks ago and ended up trading in. I was expecting high $30's being an option by way people speak of them. His was waaaay nicer than this one too.

Over on the blue 540, the underside heatshield's and freshly painted exhaust have gone back on the car. Keen to get this car going then I will continue with the clean etc... New brake hoses and a few other items needed after scrambling underneath for a few days...

Busy weekend, we took the car for a quick run. Went back home and my wife wanted to take a particular photo of her car. Turned out much better than we expected, after me fiddling with the phone photo.

New gearbox mount for exhaust clearances Headers wrap Will add more gussets. New list.

It's not an unusual milage for them to need big end bearings done. It's just they left it one drive too many! The trick is to preventatively replace them BEFORE the crank gets damaged - waiting until now that it is too late possibly makes it a MASSIVE ballache job, instead of just a big expensive job.

If I were a gambling man, I think I'd just get one that is running fine for low/mid 20's, than spend 15k+10 on one that's already frigged.

Newest acquisition: Recaro Pole Position ABE's de-badged and trimmed in M texture to match. These will do nicely... Breykrause brackets on their way to mount to a set of OEM manual sliders.

I am new here and looking to share and learn. First bmw was e46 318i msport. Learnt a lot from it after overheating needing all new cooling parts and head gasket etc. I have a 120i e87, which I got from auctions, with lots of issues. Have fixed the engine ones and almost all the computer issues, where I learnt the basics of ista and repated software. More recently got an e83 3 2.5si - n52. Sadly this has a few issues so currently working through them which led me to come here. Know a bit about what I am doing, but not mechanically trained, have done engine transmission swaps etc in Toyota, Nissan, and Mitsubishi and from owing a Ford territory I became an expert in suspension bush changes! Really enjoying the bmw and beautiful to drive - previously drove a new 7 series with work, which lured me to bmws.

Is up to 219 km I think. Shows how often I drive it!

Welcome to Z ownership and bimmersport. I have an E85 Z4 as well and great fun cars. A great forum in the UK called Z4-forum.com has heaps of helpful diy links and info, worth a look. Also in Wellington so may see you at one of the meets.

I actually wrote a full on rant about that very fact, I mean FFS - Then I deleted it. But yes, I totally agree with that statement. I mean have some respect for what it is, what it can do, how many were built, and don't be a dreamer who over extends to the hilt just to buy it and then can't afford to keep it - so it just becomes another under maintained M5 which adds to the its unreliable BS. Although I was told this came from some eccentric collector, I think it was bought, driven for a couple of months until the reality hit home and it was parked. The tires are just annoying, but not because of the cost - but because the car went through what can only be described as the most useless PPI I have ever seen done on a car by a "specialist" in CHCH, report literally was written on the invoice....... and they missed a glorious slice clean through the sidewall to the banding (and countless other things), right where the rim had been repaired, probably because someone assed it into a curb. I only came across this beauty after two tire shops couldn't balance these wonders and I was cleaning a ridiculous amount of weight adhesive off the rims. And if you ever want to know what you need to throw at a Hifly to try and balance it - start with this: Then put about the same on the inside further around, quality............ The Michelins have no weight on one and 5 grams on the other.
