I had the same dilemma when I had the 135i so ended up stitching on one of those Alcantara covers onto my steering wheel which matched the insert, turned out great

I forgot I put a bid in on a 1983 505 STI Manual in Turners Dunedin, and now I got it. to get it to Auckland, they want $1150... I wonder if this can be done any better? The Car has the pre interior refresh interior so it looks very much closer to the 504 on the inside.

So good. Have you thought of buying or making a sand blasting cabinet, or a vapour blasting cabinet? Or do you find doing it by hand is therapeutic?

Yeah, I thought it would wear better, plus match the other bmw alcantara pieces I've got. But now I've ordered a bunch of interior pieces the only thing that will be looking worn is the steering wheel. Which I now want to either repair(I need to investigate this) or replace. A replacement is likely to come with an insert, so I'll look around and see what's out there. I've got 40 days to add the insert to my Schmiedmann order anyway 😅

Collected car today. interior is filthy and the buggers broke the gearknob. Sigh. also speedo and fuel gauge does not work. I'm up for a tonne of fun piecing this darling back together.

I have a m50nv head and cams.. as well as extra intake cam kicking around somewhere. Ill have to check its condition as it wasn't stored very well and may have gone rusty 😪

I'm looking for a M50B25nv engine but won't need the cams. If I find one (or if you do) you can have the cams after I get the engine.

Much more level 4 and Im going to have mirror finished primer.

Hi JayCee Interest really picked up AFTER lockdown which I guess is because so many people are online. I actually got a couple of decent offers and have taken a deposit pending final payment and pickup after lockdown. I sent videos and service receipts for the out of town buyers. I got a 2009 X5 3.0 SD diesel because I needed 4wd but the 550i is a much nicer drive and the 4.8 V8 is a total honey. Also mechanically it’s been really good, for the E61 you just need to expect to replace the airbags and compressor at least once, and I did the cam cover gaskets which is a common thing. Otherwise it was just keeping up with fairly standard regular servicing. The 550i is a great family and load hauler and fantastic tourer. If you’re just after a weekend car, that opens up a heap of options, you may not need something as big as the E61. Good luck with your search!

Something happened when I started with the front shocks..... a toothbrush came out to clean them, then came the realisation I need to clean everything with a tooth brush and replace just about everything of a perishable nature. I'm probably going overboard, but I think it's a nice change to do a really fastidious project. The only BMW I wanted was an E34 540i so it all makes sense to go for it and do it to the best I can.
