  1. Your mind seems to be in Toyota Corolla mode. You have to consider that these cars in their day were considered sophisticated and high performance. Expensive repair bills and high performance cars are synonymous and often the purchase price on one of these cars is the cheapest part about them.
  2. The TU variant is designed to give better fuel economy and makes more torque in the low to mid range.
  3. Great engines, not many car engines in 1998 that made 400nm @ 1300rpm thanks to it's vanos system. It's not a case of lottery, it's a case of having the funds available when the chain guides start breaking off and falling down in to the sump. I found a piece of guide in the cylinder head, next to one of the cams of my old 540i when they let go. If you plan on keeping the car for a long time, do the guides and cooling system, then imo you're good for another 200+ k kms engine wise.
  4. The active seats are a nice touch. In chainguides territory though.
  5. Keen on a swap or after $1100. The plate is in Mint condition. Cheers.
  6. Something to be mindful of for the rear suspension....Standard MtechII rear springs on your car are progressive and are longer than MtechI springs. The spring perch is fixed lower on the MtechII shocks to compensate for the length. Bilstein (HD) shocks used with the MtechII springs results in a harsh, and jacked up in the rear end ride due to perch length. Koni rebound adjustables are better, but the best imo if using standard MtechII springs are the OEM or Sachs ones - I do believe they have rear shocks suitable for the MtechII springs, you might need to do some googling to get the measurement of the distance between the rear shocks lower mounting hole and the spring perch and compare with OEM.
  7. Nice colour, similar to Sienna Red Metallic. Really pops under direct light in to a copper kind of colour.
  8. Very nice Ray, hopefully a fair few kw's released with after some dyno tuning. Are you still running the stock e39 m5 cats on 8M3 ? Some information here about before an after using Evolve's take on tuned length headers and some DME tweaks : http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39-m5-e52-z8-discussion/306729-evolve-medusa-headers-vs-stock-headers-pictures.html
  9. You spelled ditchfinder tyres wrong.
  10. All nz-new cars I've done a vin decoder check on have had 'National version Australia' in their spec sheets. LeMans Blue is slightly darker :
  11. Pretty sure the one for sale is Avus Blue rather than Le Mans blue? Both 2 very nice colours none the less!
  12. Would love to know more about the engine build.
  13. The front seats look to be lacking the extra shoulder padding the M3 seats have.
  14. Yes very arty farty pics but save the filter for the showroom rather than a trademe ad which should keep a car honest.
  15. You'd hope so with over 550hp.
  16. Elsewhere is Europe too. mobile.de has some nice examples for over 35k euro.
  17. Yeah i think the numbers are around that figure @DC3 knows.
  18. Nice car! The comfort seats are amazingly comfy compared to the standard M5 seats
  19. Awesome project! Looking forward to more progress. Wonder how much faffing is required to fit dohc heads??
  20. Maybe not. I watched a clip of Mr Koneigsegg explaining his new cylinder head revolution using valve actuators. Looked really interesting as there were some awesome advantages vs traditional timed camshaft operated valves. How much oil does the world really have left before we get to listen to muted performance cars?? Hopefully plenty. Considered an e60 M5?
  21. Agree. Great cars to drive (When everything works) but are the epitome of Break My Wallet for those with no mechanical insurance or who are not keen on diy.
  22. Give Ross lamb a call at BM workshop in Botany. He can give you some insight.
