  1. A great buy for someone. Hopefully they get restored and put back on the road. And whoever the buyer is, please document your progress on here so we can enjoy the journey with you.
  2. How many kms? Even better, if you give us the licence plate numbers we can look up the details of the cars.
  3. Great work. I love a clean looking engine!
  4. This ^^ And I would also expect a m62b48 to be more expensive to buy than a s62.

    E39 2000 540i Msport

Great excuse to go manual conversion ?
  6. Thats odd as the 25% works at checkout on the Michelins
  7. Its not a bad idea to change the power steering cooling setup as those auto trans coolers like to break the seal and then oil and water mixes and you break stuff. Mishimoto makes some good small ones.
  8. Also I would question the maintenance on this engine as there appears to be a heck of alot of gunk in the engine. It looks like it has missed alot of oil changes.
  9. Get it tested first to see if its headgasket. If it is definitely replace cvv and associated hoses, dipstick o ring, oil filter housing gasket, rocker cover gasket, the rubber bungs on the back of the inlet manifold, inlet manifold gasket, throttle body gasket, both intake boots, disa gasket. Of course you will also need new headgasket and new head bolts. I would also replace waterpump and thermostat if they havnt been done already. And of course check belts, filters and plugs.
  10. The m62b48 are incredibly rare, and almost impossible to find. My thoughts would be that if you found one you would devalue it by changing the heads. I cant be sure, but did the b48 have vanos? As far as putting different heads on these motors there is not much information that I have been able to find. I know some of the heads have different combustion chamber sizes, which effects the compression ratio. Also some pistons are different too - some are domed and some are flat, and some have valve reliefs. Unfortunately I think it would be impossible to know, without having the engines in front of you and measuring yourself. The other issue is cams, as not all cams fit all the heads.
  11. Great work! What radiator were you using? Have you considered upgrading to a bigger rad?
  12. Wow, that looks so sweet sitting on the stand all clean and painted. Just be aware that these engines like to break the metal around the starter holes either side of the engine if they come under pressure, like the the weight of sitting on the stand for example. Dont ask me how I know. And thats quite a good win to see you got the earlier intake with the trumpets.
  13. On the m54's that I've done it on I've never had codes, and never needed to remove the headers. It was very simple.
  14. The secondary air pump is something that you want to delete anyway.
  15. I have a power steering pump for e39 540i
  16. @NealI inquired about these and sadly they are discontinued and the replacements are some way away. What else would you recommend for a 6.5 woofer?
  17. I understand, I'm in the same boat. You definetly want to check the cvv is not blocked before you spend more money chasing leaks though.
  18. If its the N42 motor then sorry to say but its a money pit.
  19. $1100 for a sump gasket is crazy money. If your cvv is blocked you will keep blowing seals as it will just look for the next weakest seal/gasket. But if your cvv is blocked they should have picked up on that first.
  20. Kayne Barrie motorsport would be a good person to do the vanos for you. He is just north of Auckland, so you would need to ship but he has a very solid reputation.
