After looking for only a couple of weeks an E91 335i in Auckland took my fancy so I drove up for a look. Overall extremely tidy condition with a reasonably low 74,000 km on the clock and a two page long spec sheet. PPI Inspection came thru fine so deposit down and made arrangements for the transporter to get it down to the Bay ASAP. Its just arrived today (haven't laid eyes on it yet) but 5pm cannot come round fast enough! Here are a few dealers photos until I can snap some of my own.

I was looking for somewhere to ask a question about steering wheel refurbishment and noticed there doesn't seem to really be anywhere that deals specifically with interiors. Self-dipping rear view mirror retrofit, seat swaps and what is required (what fits and what doesn't), interior restoration (including steering wheels!), that sort of thing. I appreciate it's not really technical, and it may well be that there's likely to be insufficient interest to warrant it's own sub-forum, but... Maybe 'Appearance' is expected to cover this? Just a suggestion.

I've had the fire going almost every night for the last month and quite often during the day. You northerners have it far too easy. lol

I spotted the car last Saturday. It turned into the grounds of a local church, probably collecting the tithe. Made the mistake to directly look at it. My eyes are still sore and I now frequently wake up at nights in a panic... Will need to see a shrink - that'll set me back $$$.

Rofl, so I just rang the guy and he is so full of crap. He says he is the best car audio installer in nz, and that he would have won a bunch of competitions if people weren't so jealous of him. He said that heaps of car audio places (including Rapid Radio) were desperate to hire him. He wouldn't tell me what the front speakers were because they were a "secret" that he spent 10 years developing. He said the only way to find out what the front speakers are is to buy the car. There are two amps, one is an old fusion, and the other is a soundmagnus. I tried telling him that soundmagnus is pretty crap but he tried to tell me they were the best. I could go on, but its best if you ring him yourself if you want a laugh.

I couldn't help but ask on his auction if he'd get it a new warrant if sold. Apparently he can. Must have a friend at a garage. I'm sure with the back parcel tray cut like that it should fail from any self respecting garage or testing station.

New FCABs and front brakes from the guys at SD Euro, great work diagnosing my cars "shimmy" at speed and under braking and fast turn around on fitting new parts, same day service. The new bits have also stopped the car groaning and moving after handbrake is applied.

I would love a G wagon. The G55 AMG Supercharged or later Turbo.

Congrats on the purchase! Looks tidy as Would recommend you get the Alpina TCU flash done on the AT transmission as the stock one was terrible with the paddles "This flash will make the transmission run smoother, gear change will be more precise and crisp, rev match downshift is unbelievable, rev limiter is increased and overall driveability is increased. You will have a new indicator for gear selection in D mode which display D1, D2, D3 ,D4, D5 and in DS mode you will see S1, S2, S3, S4, S5 and the same for the M mode. This single flash will make the car change gears more refined and crisp. You will no longer feel the lurching when the tranny shifts and it goes through the gears without even the slightest hesitation. It is indeed a must have flash if you own a E9x with a N54 engine..."

I received a new LCD panel and ribbon when I bought the M5. Am a keen diy'er but a bit too risky given the rare availablity of the M5 cluster.

Id just slip a 1JZGTE in, easier, straight up and down motor, basic mounts need to be made up front, rear mount is easy. Custom drive shaft. Join some wires up, exhaust, intake/intercooler, maybe upgrade the brakes, throw a couple of driveshaft hoops in and get a cert. Super reliable 300hp/400nm 325i then

I did my E39 one myself but it was a bit of mission and still cost $60 for the new ribbon. Got Kerry in Christchurch to fix my E31 MID. No hassle, a better job than I could do myself and all for $150. Bargain.

It packs it with about 1/2 km of bubble wrap in to a box, and then it sends it to Chch to have a new LCD and ribbon cable installed.

NO TIME! It's all about post count - quantity, not quality! Outside of internet forums, I have no life! The emergency contacts in my wallet require internet access. My will leaves money to my ISP and hosting. I really drive a Mazda Demio Auto

That's true - the TU was a massive improvement too, the M54 gains a better low end torque curve, which blitzes the M52 non TU... which possibly doesn't have a torque curve with a slushbox and E39 strapped on. I don't think the TU was used for long in the E39 was it??? The 3.0 is the 6 cylinder to get, because it doesn't really use more gas than the others anyway.

The moment you put up a post about making a profit on an OE car you intend on bringing back is the moment that profit margin disappears.

Good if you have dogs though. Nothing like going around a roundabout sideways with dogs heads poking out each side.
