Yes it was. Modified too with heaps of special accessories......Battery cover delete, unsafe battery jumper leads, a bottle of peak coolant and 2 bottles of SAE40 engine oil. I also forgot to mention that the repairer had also mislaid the lock nut

After trying some Hankook Ventus Prime 3's I put a set on the back of my E36. They are a touring tyre rather than an outright performance tyre but they are progressive as they start to let go, braking performance is pretty good and they are good in the wet. I got 2 x 245 40 17's for less than $400 from Cannon Point Motors in Upper Hutt. I normally just look for the deal on RE003s as they are a really good tyre for the money but I had 3 vehicles to buy tyres for so the Hankooks won the cheque book race.

So did I... $4.78! I spent it on tools... along with several other hundreds of dollars ?

Somewhere in the NZ supply chain someone is making a killing on genuine parts, the service counter cost is criminal. I assume that the dealers take a reasonable cut of that margin, which would somewhat offset any low margin labour considerations. It's difficult to look at a BMW dealer and think "low margin" when we can compare the extortionate price of parts locally to the exact same part from the US or Europe.

T1-R is pretty old tech. I ran a set on my 850-T5, they were grippy and quiet, lasted just over 10k kms. Same mileage on the Proxes-4 on my e46. RE003 on e46 - more than double the mileage, better wet performance. I thought Toyos were pretty good until I tried the RE003s. I've run RE003's on my e60, got over 20k kms. Great balance, great handling, grip, wet weather performance. Changed to staggered Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 H452 - they're not as good as RE003s. Less grip in the dry, softer sidewalls, not as good in the wet. As John says above, they're a touring tyre. I regret buying them, should have gone S001. Before anyone says 'oooh, 10k for a set of tyres'? I travel a twisty hill with chip seal, the tyres aren't warmed up before they hit the hill, same for coming home.

Well, went to bleed the clutch, and the bleeder nipple snapped off flush. Tried to use a drill with an easy-out to get the rest out, but she was pretty stuck in there, and so snapped the easy-out in there. So ordered a replacement slave, put that in. Rookie mistake. Didn't order a replacement master as well, as the seals are basically gone on that. Clutch pedal releases just about the floor, but managed to take her out for a quick drive to test out the gearbox, and there are no crunches, so that's nice. Drives much nicer now, and is a really comfortable drive. I found it much nicer as a daily than my E30, which is a bit concerning. Have got a single-mass flywheel to go in that's actually suited to the engine to go in, and will order a replacement master too. Will get those in, put all the trim pieces back on, figure out the boot locking issue, then take her in for a wof.

Whats wrong with the dragon sports? had them on my 116i and they were perfect. I also had the Laufenn LK01's on the M135, also put them on my E46, and have them now on the mini. Cheap and plenty good enough for me for daily driving and took them on road trips around north island no problems. I am not a fan of direction tyres but personal preference. I believe the Toyos are good but not long lasting. Soft compound I think.. Re tyre size, I think it largely depends on your wheel width if its square or staggered. I like the idea of 235/40/18 square but otherwise you could even do 225/40/18 and 245/35/18. (Have a play around with sizes in relation to prices, it can vary quite a bit!)

cheers mate Yeah he's offered me all of the above he said he'd take the tyres for full refund and then I just pay the balance of the new tyres, which looks like its going to be 235/40, probably a $50 difference and when he has stock again he will swap the rears for a more flush offset and width

no Jon, it's just again that you expect differently from others than you do of yourself i feel. and your "Ok boomer" attitude clearly shows this. Jon, maybe it's time you stepped aside for awhile if you are a little confused to give you time to gather your thoughts? as a community are we not allowed to call those that are "superior" out for acting in ways that they ? or is this turning into a dictatorship? Again, like multiple people have highlighted. This forum needs new leadership, and some new moderators.

I'm totally ...totally ..totally with you on that one. I'll level with you on this one...the $250 + GST quote I once received to change the oil housing gasket (3 bolts and a $12 part) has rather jaded my view of some operators. I'm all for loyalty and I'd love to establish a good rapport with a reliable and good value for money garage. However when the first conversation goes like that I'm never getting in the door to start that relationship because I'm immediately feeling like I'm going to get 'stung' for every little thing. For example I'd much rather pay and trust somebody to do my oil and filter changes, because I always ache the next day from getting under there and stuff....but the mark ups on the filter, the oil ($5 for the drain plug washer!, yes I have been quoted for the new washer!) leave a bad taste. I'm in no way "chasing the bottom dollar" ...and I love the example further down the thread on the Chinese brake rotors. This is what the uninitiated do not understand....all things especially parts are far from equal. There is a class of car owner/customer it seems that their only objective is to keep their vehicle running for the least possible dollar outgoing. I question why people with that mindset drive BMWs at all...there are far far far better options for 'cheap hassle free motoring'

Loosen up the moderation a bit is a good thing, personally I think a bit of jab back and forwards online is healthy and shouldn't be moderated. I haven't seen anything from 3pedals or M3AN that would justify anything worthy of even consideration of a ban (in any form), in fact the opposite (and ive been here for 12 years!) I moderate a few groups with a few thousand or so members, and sit on the council of a non profit organisations of a few thousand people... over judicious use of the ban hammer doesnt work online or in the real world and just causes more sh*t, and in the case of online forums its often the beginning of the end. On a BMW faceballs group I moderate, my policy is only banning people who install V bars, particularly those made out of garden hose and broomhandles.

    I paid $1100 for 4 235/35/19s RE003s a few months. Tonys Tyre Service.

Bridgestone RE003. Please, don’t put sh*t tyres on your capable German car. There’s no coincidence that wreckers observe a good proportion of their custom from BMWs equipped with rubbish rubber! The RE003 is reasonably priced, performs well on e60, brilliant in the wet, sticky enough yet give reasonable wear too. The difference in grip and braking distance between a decent tyre and a cheap shitty tyre will be marked in the pedestrian you may well hit on the cheap tyres in an emergency stop. The few dollars saved won’t seem worth it, then.

Sounds a bit like a situation we had - Woman comes in wanting a headlight bulb replaced which we do for $20, but turns out she can't pay but will come back next week to pay it instead. 3 weeks later a car drives onto the premise at lunch time and parks in the middle of the driveway for a bit but everyone ignores it due to the break, so it pulls into the workshop and beeps the horn instead. Boss comes down and recognizes the woman, tells her this ain't a McDonalds drive thru service and we are on our break. She ends up wanting a quote for some other work, but when brings up the $20 she was suppose to pay 3 weeks ago she has all the excuses in the world. Boss tells her to keep the $20 and never come back. Daughter leaves a bad Google review saying how rudely she was treated. Just ringing around finding parts and getting the part prices etc can actually be quite time consuming (especially multiple parts). In some other professions that would be the equivalent of a short consultation and they would probably charge you.
