3 pointsYou'd probably find the stock intake performs perfectly for your intended use. It's not always an accident how the parts end up after the BMW engineers developed them. It's an interesting topic to consider. Any time the intake is drawing in hot air from under the bonnet the sensor will read higher temps, so the ECU will change the timing and fueling to suit, resulting in less power. Terrible for off the line performance, or waiting for a run down a drag strip. I did some real world tests in my Soarer with 3 sensors, one on the front bumper for ambient, in front of the air filter, and one behind the airbox outside of it. Here is a table of my findings based on different time spend doing different things, at different speeds. As you can see any time the car comes to stop the hot air in the engine bay quickly accumulates I had a modified airbox that was drawing in hotter air than it should, so I returned it to stock. I did take new readings and they were much closer to ambient, although I didn't get around to making a table up for that. To be fair, I would suggest returning to stock as well.

3 pointsWhile the intention was to keep drifting cheapish and cheerful it was hard to not to want something with more cylinders, but as we do i love BMW’s and the E36 chassis’ are so cheap and plentiful. Only one solution really, engine swap. This had been on my loose plan for a while, and research showed a lot of work and effort involved in a BMW v8 swap, for not much gain. So when a LS1 swapped coupe came up with a 1/2 cage and T56 i jumped. It was a gamble but the price ($12k) was what it would cost me to build one. Turns out it was rough and poorly done, but the running gear was ok and it saved me 6months of work (add that into the equation and its a win whatever way you look at it lol). So it was chopping, welding, etc to make this thing semi workable for drifting day.

3 pointsI owned this car from 2007-2013 as a factory/all original 328i under UQ8500 and did c.250,000 kms in it over that period. It was a great car, I really miss it at times.

2 pointsHmm, let's see how this works out, I'll be arranging cash on collection, nothing else. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/car-parts-accessories/bmw/accessories/listing/2794775974

2 pointsYep, absolutely hated the E60 design, grew to like it more and am going to pick up an E61 in the weekend. Said the same thing about the F30 3 series front and now it looks cool too. F56 mini cooper S front bumper looked SUPER weird when it first came out and said the R56 was so much nicer looking but then the F56 grew on me also. Im going to say it, I like this new M3/M4 front already ?

2 pointsYou guys should let BMW know you think you've found a mistake in their technical documents, they'd probably appreciate that. They might send you a free pen.

2 pointsWell to anyone that thought TL;DR for this, Dave found comfort in a paragraph he found on the internet. He also accepts himself.

1 pointThis one is mine. Not perfect for sure with the dent in the rear bumper but still a fair price I believe. Can do a deal for bimmersport members.

1 pointI'll add to this. Here are the problems I found. 1. Big exhaust leak (likely from the turbo) evident by all teh carbon on the left side of engine bay but not crackly sounds (so probably not a cracked manifold?) 2. Battery is low (possibly due to alternator issue) 3. Oil level light came on (Maybe due to battery low) 4. Traction control light and yellow brake light came on (maybe also due to battery low) 5. Waterpump losing water, but doesn't seem to be overheating. 6. Steering wheel very worn. 7. RUCs are behind by around $350 It'll make a great project for someone with the time. But may cost a bit if it needs a new turbo. Good luck to all bidders!

1 pointThanks mate - and thanks all for the robust debate - a little initial research had indicated conflicting data, as evidenced in this thread. I am thinking for my purposes, its probably not worth messing with moving the sensor as I'm hardly drag racing stoplight to stoplight in traffic and the airflow is great on a spirited drive when I actually want the power. As to ingestion of hot air, my intake does use the factory kidney ducting and is heat-shielded (including from the expansion tank and with proper thermal insulation backing) and reasonably sealed off so I would hope its not too bad - certainly about as good as an open cone filter would get. Anyway, I made this change for sound alone, while trying not to lose performance, I may well go back to stock once I install my Supersprint backbox if it sounds good enough to ditch the intake. I love the induction roar, but there is an annoying whistle on part throttle that comes with it...

1 pointWant to make money? Sell "Euro" (Everywhere bar the US) bumpers on Ebay.com. What we pay $100 for. They pay $600USD for. Especially E28 and E30 PFL bumpers.

1 pointWell two years flew by, and so did a lot of tyre rubber. Quick update... Brought a 320i sedan and turned it into a quick and dirty drift car while i worked on the 328, finished the 328 coupe and had 4 track days in it. Lots of fun and loads of learning which i have really enjoyed. Next up.. more power

1 pointlol this thing is fun, even the auto box is a delight in sport mode. The car is way quicker than I imagined it would be and it has hydraulic rather than electric power steering, bonus. The seats and suspension probably feel better than my M3. ? I played with all the settings that mapped across from my '08 coupe manual and have set it up how I like. Tilt might need some inspection on the driver's seat, it clicks but then does nothing but the current position is okay for now. It has privacy glass too. I'm impressed that the radio preset buttons are capacitive touch buttons as well as proper buttons, that's cool. Not enough pockets and no coin storage, that's a bummer. I could use the cup holder for coins but it's not ideal and there seems to be no OEM solution. I washed it by hand today and exposed all the imperfections and there are many. Looks great from a few metres out but not so good on close inspection. I knew this going in though and I'm not at all concerned with what I see. I'll probably pay for a good cut and polish in due course and see where we go from there. More pics... These must go... These can stay... 100% happy so far.
