Took it on an essential services run south of the border... feels like an achievement. strange days.

No problem, happy to help. Same with oil and tyres, there are some people who consider themselves "enthusiasts" that still think there's a meaningful difference between Castrol "10w60 Titanium", "10w60 TWS", and "10w60 Supercar" when that's just foolish... or that your car will handle terribly and fall off the road if you're not using Michelin PSx tyres when that hasn't been true for over two decades. Unfortunately some of them still frequent BS and pedal their tired BS.

It's not unusual for any car to use a bit of coolant over time, and if it's low it can just take a single corner to trip the sensor. The best thing to do would be to top it up and see if it's still fine after a week or two, if so ignore it and move on. I'll keep saying it, BMW coolant is just G48, it's a standard so there's no point in paying for (or importing) BMW branded stuff when you can get it from Repco or Supercheap for less. Valvoline and Penrite are both readily available in NZ.

I've seen some of your other threads so will just say, yes you're 110% correct. 😀

@Contrails That photo of yours at the wedding looks amazing. I absolutely love the look of these things, just a bit big for me though. Let me know when you're ready to sell the M325i at below market value 🤣

Everyone raves about how good the e30 is blah blah and then complains when demand and prices increases. All prices on all cars are going up at the moment, some more than others but just because someone has more money and desire to own one, does that make them less on enthusiasts and someone with half the money? No

Yep I refused a $20k offer. I didn’t even entertain any overseas buyers but had a couple from Aus and Hong Kong. If it came down to it, I will sell the E30 before the E28. The E30s are more in demand and I am more attached to my E28 due to sentimental reasons. I think this specimen is worth $25-28kish. But the dealer needs to take some better pics. If I were to buy this (I am trying really hard to convince my Brother in law to get this) I would put some gold BBS wheels with wider stance at the back, upgrade the suspension and brakes and some subtle M stripes to give it that proper 80s racing look. They are absolutely fabulous cars to drive especially with that M30 engine. With some suspension upgrade and some better brakes, they handle well. It’s just that the demand is not there as most people that are wanting an E30 haven’t driven these or the E24 version. Even the E34 is lagging way behind but at least the 540is would probably be doing well now. Edit: here’s mine being used as a wedding car as requested by my sister. and a white one in Au I think.

This. You can’t be late to the party and expect to pay what you could’ve when you didn’t.

Not sure if its been discussed here as Its been sitting for a while at a 'specialist dealer' and appears overpriced, but by how much? $10k? High km but very clean - do these have a dogleg box? The Equivalent 'Not an M' E30 would be likely twice the price. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/3352983383?bof=uflWtxKS @BMTHUG Did you end up manual converting your Malachite Green 535i? @Contrails You got a few good offers on yours last year?

Went back and loaded up some winols projects from awhile back, I spent considerable time awhile ago researching tuning the M57 and finding maps. Comparing my standard map and one that I paid for from a well known tuner. As you can see boost has not been increased by much, I suspect the standard turbo isnt good for much more? Seems to be a popular upgrade to fit the turbo from the later model M57TU and then turn the boost up further. Smoke limits increased, standard maps probably pretty conservative to meet emissions, and drivers wish limits increased. Smoke and drivers wish limits / maps are in mm^3 of fuel. SOI maps left standard. EGR disabled (as i removed it). Few other things changed as well but not too much of interest. Tune was left conservative to be easy on the auto gearbox (known weak point). Car drives well and doesn't smoke, other than a slight haze when you boot it. Car has done about 80,000km since been remapped, and towing loaded car trailers over the kaimais etc no problems.

Thanks Dave, here I was importing the blue stuff when Supercheap have the G48 just up the road (Penrite green 5L premix for $44)

This white E28 M535i was 40K in April this year and we had already discussed it on the board. Looks like the demand for E28 is not much in NZ while it seems quite hot overseas.

Having owned a couple of M325i's I would take the E28 over one any day. Superior vehicle. Nearly as good as the E34.

Thanks to Pramod, the module was reflashed and the airbag light is gone! If anyone experiences the same error, hit him up, cheers!

Really shitty plastic connectors where the hoses connect to the head. One of mine snapped off totally after some work at BMW - Perfect place to rest your hand, shitty crumbly plastic. 2nd hose connector had split and was just about to pop off when we caught it. This one. Replaces the sh*t plastic connector that WILL fail at some stage. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-coolant-hose-with-flange-rein-11537545890 And this one. Which fails where the hose connects to the "quick" connector. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-radiator-hose-upper-17127531579

Waterpumps fail at anywhere between 10,000 and 300,000km, they'll throw a check engine light though. Is it throwing a code?

I'd imagine it's about $5-10k over priced, though it's more a case of you can't find them for sale, so the dealer can charge whatever. Values have steadily been increasing and being leather and manual is a good start. In hindsight @Contrails car for $16k was potentially cheap at the time and is most certainly worth a lot more now. I almost feel like (puts on flame suit) e28s are underappreciated and provide a lot more value than a lot of e30s.

Top it up and monitor it. Could just have been a bit low.

Apart from the pre injection it would be continuous The same words of caution apply. It's not as simple as petrol injection tuning, which I do a lot of, or carburetor stuff, which I do a lot of. But, if you want to Google your answers to try one up someone who i has been the performance industry for more than a couple of forum searches, who is just saying be careful, be my guest.

I reckon this is worth 28k. I didn't end up manual converting my car dude. I have way too much on by means of paid work hahah this thing is beautiful! I'd buy it if I was in the market

One sold for that price in days last year/earlier this year. Was immaculate and had done half the kms

@aja540i When it comes to V8’s I’m all about the smiles per gallon not the miles per gallon. @E30 325i Rag-Top I do only need to tow it once, maybe I can set a fuel inefficiency record.

It 'would' be, but that's not really the case. E30 purchases and other such value increases of low level cars are driven purely by the NZ real estate market and interest rates. Watch sales slow as NZX shares continue their downward trend and mortgage rates continue to rise. Not to say that prices will drop, but sales volumes do slow. At a stretch you could say that houses/mortgage rates have introduced a new 'investor' to the car market.

It's sad that a lot of passionate car enthusiasts have been priced out of their favorite marquees by investors. It was better when these cars were on the road not parked up appreciating.
