What sort of backwards hillbilly logic is that? "A burning EV makes more emissions than an ICE car, thus it is bad". Cmon now.

Basically all wrapped up now trim assembled Not usually a fan of chrome or amber lights but this colour combo really works. Found a nice set of 18" reps for it that suit perfect. Camera really doesn't do this color justice.

Of all the 7er I do like the styling of an E38, in this case the kit and wheels make it look worse than a factory M-Sport to me. The wheels look to be an M-Par copy to my untrained eye. Reason to pay less for this one, not more.

on the South Island there is only one audio place i trust and that is Audiocity.co.nz Christchurch. I've travelled up there twice; first time for apple carplay and NZ updateable maps that integrates with the stock CIC display and this last weekend to install a rear camera and factory code painted parking sensors. Vincent and the crew worked two hours past closing time and didn't charge extra. all work looks like it came from the factory.

A small update. The car has been behaving itself, aside from the drivers active seat starting to squeak when the side bolstering was moving in the bends. After some cursing, I managed to remove the rear panels from the drivers seat giving access to the gears which needed some lube. Over the holidays with another mate in his Lexus GS450H we did a small trip up to Opononi thru the Kauri forest on highway 12, the M5 went really well in the tight corners and I can't say enough good things about the PS4s's.

problem is that bimmercode will let you enable features even if your car doesn't have them; hence they don't work and may cause errors. i used the same setup and tried changing things in FMR3 footwell module and it fried it. i don't trust bimmercode any more.

So a fun part of the project tonight, got a square wave signal generator off Trademe and plumbed into my development gauge cluster. Now I can dial up and down the speed and have the fuel economy gauge function (it needs about 5km/h minimum to work). All good learnings but it does mean that the economy gauge is only semi useful for displaying something random ... my hope was to use it for crank case vacuum / pressure. The other down side is that to drive this gauge properly from the Arduino / CAN payload your calculations for 'economy' would be relative to the vehicle speed (once moving) which is fairly annoying as you'd then have to plumb the speed signal (from ABS computer in my case) into the Arduino. I'm thinking it would likely be a better result if you took the cluster apart and either replaced the existing gauge motor or maybe jigged it up to be controlled by the Arduino directly. Would then function all the time and you could avoid the speed relative dumpster fire. Fun little sideline anyhow ps: for anybody interested that's 1.3kHz at 50% duty cycle giving about 190km/h

Locked brake on the one above, same results

See a few excavators / trucks burnt out. Battery cables rub through on the chassis.

Hot oil leaking onto an exhaust. Not sure about that, I was always told all fires need three things: fuel, ignition and oxygen. The latest hi-tech equipment that’s being deployed to fight the anti-christ that is the EV fire… the good old fashioned fire blanket! Great big car sized ones. Cuts off the oxygen.

Factory Msport with this mileage would be worth it, that’s about what I’ve spent on mine but the ACS kits for 7s just look tacky IMO. Difference in Rarity to desirability. Still I’ll keep the V12 even if it’s more warm then this. I’d want to see a timing chain guide change for that money as well. With so little running it’ll be brittle as

So what caused the fire? What I got out of Michaels post is the emissions from the i3 fire, has anyone carried out a study to find out the emissions emitted by an EV going up in flames? Everything I've heard from those that have watched an EV fire is it's over pretty dam quick and once the battery ignites it becomes a chemical fire and isn't easy to put out, chemical fires don't need oxygen to burn.

The boot spoiler is hideous. Has no place on a grand tourer.

I know you’ve got a thing against EVs, but the really funny part around that post is the fact the fire had nothing to do with the electrical elements of the car. How many petrol or diesel vehicles catch fire compared to EVs? Even as a percentage? How many petrol tankers or petrol stations catch fire compared to EV chargers? Moral of the story from the post above - if you pay peanuts for servicing you get monkeys working on your car, and this is what can happen. In general Don’t believe any scaremongering, do some research and make an informed decision.

Assuming it's compatible, and I believe it is, I have a Carly adapter with the app that we can plug in to check. Does your daughter's car have a round ("pac-man") connector in the engine bay as well as a trapezoid connector under the steering wheel, do you know? I'm in Mt Wellington, feel free to send me a PM.

This week I have met two distinct types of car people, on the one hand I had a couple of guys who were genuine car enthusiasts checking out the M5 and I was more than happy to talk rubbish and answer any questions - great experience. On the other end of the scale were the totally mono brand focused anorak wearing crowd, by the looks of it the Porsche owners club. I dropped into the local New World and saw this gaggle of beetles and unmasked folk (apparently they are immune to any virus - just don't tell them) parked up and having a good old chat, as a car guy I can appreciate any metal (well most...). So with that in mind I thought it would be nice to park up, say hi, and take some pics - I like a bit of 911 regardless of year. I soon noted from the general glare of disapproval I got on approach in the wagon that this was a closed thing and I should just "F off", bit of shame - continued on my way and did my shop. They were still parked up when I left so I figured I may as well reinforce the stereotype and gave them a good old v10 salute as I left. 😁
