Giving in to peer pressure @Olaf and @adro and sharing 'the journey'... although nowhere near as hands on as the latter or as fastidious as the former! Car 1 is a 2001 E53 V8 Sport Package in Stahlgrau Car 2 is a 2005 E60 M5 in Silverstone II

Not as bad as the new civic type r though!! I think they covered it in glue and drove it through an aftermarket stick on sh1t factory.

Removed back seat, upper and lower sections C pillar covers, parcel shelf to install child seat tether points. Actual hardware is still coming in from Germany. And whilst I wait for that new speakers and tints will be going in plus a restoration of the faded rear shelf.

Loving the pre-facelift lights. They are much better at night to drive with than the facelift for some reason? KM’s are not high. Probably in line with normal use. Must stop looking... I don’t need a red to match the blue. I followed/stalked this a few weeks back and it is very original and straight.

PM me when you want this one ... plenty of members on here have had this done by me. Not hard to do, few options.

Thanks Dave. The only thing you got completely wrong is "all bark and no bite" Go drive one... the 1.6T DCT 7 AWD version. Then comment.

I'd call City BMW and ask them, if they have them in stock you can pick them up before 13h. Need them for a warrant? Cut up a pool noodle and bang it on temporarily...

Thanks Kyu. I'm very pleased how it's turned out. Special black out to my specs organised through the dealer. First Lagoon Blue one done in NZ. I might come along with it to a Sunday meeting when I get back from overseas if I'm allowed to park somewhere.

From what I know, there were 4 in Imola red in Nz, 3 were NZ new, one was a South African model. One of the Imola’s may no longer be on the roads. Shame it is a rare colour. They are beautiful in the flesh.

Regarding the PFL lights: apart from it obviously being a matter of taste, there is something to be said for an original car. This one looks totally un-modified and as it would have come out of the factory. That’s pretty cool. As soon as you do the lights, then you’ll have the wrong steering wheel, the wrong nav screen...

If your're going to do RACP work, get the top beam kit too. It's now been shown that plates only shift the load and you will end up with more cracking in different locations.

S54 requires Xw-60 full synthetic. FTFY. They only recommend Shell now, if you buy a used e46 M3 from a BMW dealer it will be full of Shell. If you take it to BMW for a service it will be filled with Shell. Although of course we know it makes no difference so buy it (any good brand) from Repco or Supercheap when it's on special.

If you haven't already, check the condition of the drive shaft giubo.

Come on Lester! You know you should talk to me about this stuff. Could be the centre mount, worth having a look at and inspecting it for play. Also worth checking the rubber donut for signs of wear and tear

The spacers are a factory option for rough road. May or may no be fitted, depending on market and options. Also note that the ECS spacers listed above say they lift the car 20mm.... they are NOT 20mm thick, becasue they mount inboard, approx half way between the wheel and the inner suspension mount. I made 10mm spacers, and I think they raised it 20mm, maybe a little more.

Installed a GROM unit as per @BozzaFC recommendation. It is a bit pricey for what it is but it does it's job very effectively. I got this one: https://gromaudio.com/store/bt3_adapters/bmw-mini-98-05-bluetooth-adapter-car-kit-behind-the-radio-connector.html with the 3.5mm and USB charger cable. I'm loving being able to run spotify via bluetooth and still use the steering controls to skip tracks. Bit of ghetto install using the posi things....should probably solder them eventually. NB: you gotta disconnect the CD stacker at the stacker also.. No more tape adapter for me ? Is it even an E39 if your pixels ARE working?? ?

Not that I disagree, but I wouldn't be surprised if those who don't have the personal responsibility or common sense to take out insurance, would meet the criteria of third party, even if they were forced to, and were found at fault in a crash. Most of these types likely Don't have a WOF Might have a WOF but car is in an unroad worthy state Breaching license conditions Drug/alcohol impaired. All reason to be denied cover. We have such a culture in this country now that personal responsibility is out the window and its easier to blame someones else. Couple that with a piss weak justice system and resentment/jealousy for success. If the wannabe gangster takes out your late model six figure Euro in his unwarranted 'ceffy', whats it to him... Your insurance will pick up the tab, easy.

I can appreciate the time, expertise, and money gone into this. But cannot for the life of me understand why anybody would go to all that drama and then sell the vehicle (or at least try to, on TM ffs!!) with a mere 5000km on it. Why not enjoy your pride and joy??
