I don't understand the "Very sad to see my old car in this state" comment from the past owner. No obvious issues with the car I can see, unless he just hates the mods? Fair enough on the shifter though, it looks terrible. Phots aren't the greatest but some people just suck at that. In the end if you're a serious buyer, you'd take a good look and get it inspected...

That one looks awesome. First thing I'd do though is replace that stupid looking shifter with an OEM one

N55 Rod bearing replacement + sump baffle. Auckland or Christchurch
Matth5 replied to Matth5's topic in Performance
Been driving it to work, and took it for a good test run through the hills last night. The exhaust note is so much better than the M4, damn I will miss that. Especially the crackles and pops ? Drives as beautifully as I remember, the new engine seems to be running perfectly. Little easier around town and parking than the M4 due to its size. She does need a good clean on the inside though... -
Nice. Painting that rear piece black was a good idea, modernises the look IMO.

Sold Well, it's time. Some of you have seen my posts on this car over the years. It's time to find her a new home. Hopefully someone who appreciates the thousands spent on modifications and high degree of maintenance. Bear with me here this will be a novel... am I a bit crazy? Probably yes. 178000 KM. First, the history, which may scare some of those less brave buyers away It suffered an engine failure on track late last year and has undergone a no-expense spared engine replacement. I've seen working 335is sell for less than what I spent on this! Engine has just been replaced with a partially rebuilt unit. All bearings (rod bearings, upper and lower bearings), timing chain, front/rear main seals replaced, so you can enjoy it with no fear of any impending bearing failures! For good measure, a chunk of the cooling system was replaced at the same time - water pump, thermostat, various pipes. All genuine BMW parts! DCT transmission fluid was even replaced when this was done. This work was done by DCH Motorsport in Christchurch. Modifications: MHD Tune - Stage 2+ 98RON, done lots of data logging to ensure the engine runs perfectly with this map. VRSF catless downpipe 6 inch intercooler - Chinese no-name but I have done back-to-back testing to ensure it outperforms the stock one and keeps intake temps low when running a tune. CPE Aluminium charge pipe Turbo rebuilt with upgraded compressor wheel by a reputable NZ turbo builder (like what they on the Stage 1 upgrades, but not the turbine). Go Fast Bits diverter valve was fitted too Pics here from the man himself: With more background and pics here, plus details and pics on other modifications: Solid rear subframe bushings Rear differential brace (both pictured in thread above too) Foam rear upper shock mounts upgraded to solid rubber. KV V2 coilovers. Certified. These have adjustable rebound damping so you can adjust it to your taste. M3 front control arms (installed at 160 000km). You might think this makes for an uncomfortable, noisy, stuff ride? Not at all! As long as you don't put runflats on it. I've roadtripped across NZ in this car, comfort was fine and it was incredibly fun to drive! Customised exhaust. Muffler internals modified to change the tone, resonators added to cancel out the loud metallic rasp that you get with an aftermarket downpipe. It sounds beautiful I assure you. But not boy-racer obnoxious loud. Other notable big ticket items: Tie rods replaced at 160 000km DCT had a full service at 151000km which included all seals - side pan, Top o-ring, lower sump cover, new sump pan and filter (fluid replaced again at 178000km while the engine was being replaced, probably pointless but it's one less thing for the next owner to worry about). New high pressure fuel pump at 147000km. Brake disks at 144300km - aftermarket slotted rotors, probably no performance gain but they look cool... Has Motul RBF 660 brake fluid and Ferodo DS2500 brake pads. Dusty pads but they perform, these do pretty well on a track but feel great on the street as well with minimal noise. If you prefer less dust and pure silence, the EBC Redstuff pads are boxed up and can be swapped over. Still have most of their pad material left on them. Less performance, no good on a track and you can overheat them if you push really hard on a twisty mountain road, but great for street driving in general. PIAA silicone windscreen wipers. these apparently last forever, they also leave a nice 'rain-x' type coating that makes the water bead off. Works even better if you clean the glass with Rain-X or similar. Asking price: I'm gonna throw out a number of $20k but if you're seriously interested, make an offer, just not a silly one, and we can see Last pic shows it wearing a set of Apex Arc-8 wheels - these are for sale separately.

I have an 18 inch set but not sure they'd be the right fit for any of your cars. They were for my E92 335i. Specs: Front: 18X9" ET30 Rear: 18X9.5" ET35 They're painted "hyper black" Not quite the recommended fitment for an E46 M3 though from the Apex site: I'd think I'd prefer to sell rather than trade though Don't forget to list your offset as well when you confirm the side. And the colour, I guess it's 'anthracite' from the pics? They do look nice, these are my favourite style for the 3 series M cars (And Z4M) Only reason I'll pass on them... I don't want to have a set of wheels to store (would not want to sell the M4 stock wheels). And if you're not in a rush, I'm likely to drive up to Auckland in December, could probably take 2 wheels to save on shipping - shipping wheels is a bit pricey. Edit: Just FYI I have had a few enquiries on these after posting this, so they're almost certainly sold...

It has been a very long complicated road, but she's back, with a rebuilt engine: Drove it to work, was nice to hear that exhaust note again, wish the M4 sounded like that! Will probably put her up for sale soon... doesn't make sense to keep this and the M4. Anyone want a stuffed N55? The guys did pull it open, said it certainly looked like the bearings were not getting oil as they were destroyed, some of them apparently had even split apart. . Potentially the cylinder head is worth something to somebody: If anyone wants to buy it let me know, otherwise it'll go to the scrap pile -
Still see a "Your connection is not fully secure" on the home page. Seems to be due to some image urls not having https, if I press F12 and look at the console I see these: Looks like those are the site sponsor logos that show up in the subforum list.

"no issues, lady owner, never thrashed"

Sounds like they're just mechanically clueless but smart enough to know they might have f**led the car and don't want to risk misleading anyone. Anything is possible, engine may have had it's life shortened here but really that's the risk with any used car. You'll really need to take a good look yourself, ideally get a BMW specialist to inspect it. If you can rule out any head gasket leakage it should be ok. Of course its possibly got all the other usual issues of a high mileage BMW, all the major bushings are worn and things like the trans, driveshaft ect are flopping around more than they should. Takes a lot of money and work to get these into real nice condition and most people don't bother. If you ever find one that's actually got the suspension well sorted with the receipts to prove it, it's easily worth a couple grand more - anyone who spends that kind of money on their E46 has properly taken care of it.

Also appears to have some super wide aftermarket rear-view mirror. This guy would have an easier time selling this car if he got rid of all his weird ass mods!

State suck and make everything a mission. Long bloody phone calls for everything, they don't do anything via email... Try Trademe Insurance and Star Insurance.
-
All he needs to do is email/call them and then forward the history to you. If he won't even do this... Then something isn't right.
-
They used to have absurdly high prices when there wasn't a sale, and the sales would bring them down to a bit cheaper than average. Guess now that they have market share they've changed to a lazier tactic. I do hope they've at least started using torque wrenches to put wheels back on. I've deformed two tyre wrenches attempting to get wheels off after they changed my tyres a couple years ago.

Car Play / Android Auto installed in F15 X5

Shipping was free. Was just charged the $245 USD. It has arrived, now I need to find time to install it. -
Autosure are awesome. I'd go with them again. Does the last owner at least remember where he serviced it? The workshops should have a record of working on the car. Ask him if he can send them a message and get some email/receipts confirming when it was serviced.
-
Why would you need to replace it? I've heard of people just washing the goo out and patching it. I can't see why the goo would destroy the tyre? But I can imagine some tyre shops would just refuse to deal with it... just like I've encountered several who would refuse to fix easily patchable tyres and try to sell me a new one, when I've been able to go elsewhere to get it patched... I've kept a pump + can of goo for years. Had several punctures and I've never needed to use the goo so far. Pumping it back up has gotten me far enough to get to a tyre shop. Suppose if the puncture was larger or this was far from town I might need the goo.
-
Don't worry, the new owner will spend even more fixing it
-
I'm also surprised Autosure didn't just write the car off. Cheaper to replace than fix a 320i...
-
Pretty much why I bought the M4. My travel plans were f**ked, needed some fun in my life...
-
Have you been able to find the part anywhere? Tried Ebay, overseas online stores ect? "Does keeping it registered get affected? How does this affect insurance after the fact? " I would think this is a question your insurance company can answer. "Will this affect the cars value?" It's a 30-something year old car, is it even worth much now? Unless it has some special classic status I can't see this being a concern?

I've ordered one of these for my M4. Ordered from https://www.android-car-dvd.com/. Initially they said they couldn't ship to NZ but later came back to me saying they could... Will see how it goes. I thought about buying one of those full Android replacement head units as they're a bit more feature packed and would add a touchscreen. But they look like they can be a bigger headache with quirks and bugs. Really I just want to have Google Maps navigation on the iDrive screen, don't care for much else. -
Oh no not yours too! I hope yours is easier to fix Didn't think water pump issue would lock it in park? I've heard about people just driving short distances at a time to move these cars when the water pumps die. It's an odd mix of codes, cam shaft, water pump, DME, trans locked in park... likely just a dying battery or alternator? It's usually something electrical when a bunch of seemingly unrelated faults pop up at once.

We're lucky to have NPD in the South island. 100 RON and it's cheaper than BP's 98. Can only hope they expand to the north island.

Everytime I veered off the default settings they just felt awful. Any softer and the car would bounce. Any stiffer and it felt very harsh and just not very settled. I'm sure that would have been fixable if compression could be adjusted to suit. And I only adjusted by one or two clicks. Maybe one click on front or rear to adjust balance would work well. But not worth the extra cost of the V2s. Default felt absolutely perfect like it was designed for the car, and I imagine V1s would be locked to the same setting.
