  1. Last one I drove was a 1988 white 300SE, it wasn't bad but needed a good bit of work, had bad left pulling brakes and an oil gasket leak onto the exhaust. But the ride and experience was enjoyable. I think if I ever wondered down the Mercedes path It would be a 560SEC, I think those are to die for,
  2. Love these. Well done Graham. The last of the real Mercedes IMO. Be sure to bring it to the next Penrose coffee meet if you can! (October 4th)
  3. Too many of those car are crap no one cares about. Yay Stuff ftw.
  4. Very nice! Welcome back. I spoke to the old owner about the sale of this car the other week, I know it saddened him to move it on but he had enjoyed it to the fullest & like anything it was just time. Having had the opportunity to drive this car I'm sure you'll love it every time you look at it, just a beautiful example inside and out, especially on a good B road. By the way, if you want to be part of the Bimmersport community in Auckland, on Sundays the first of each month, we hold a BMW - coffee meet at Kyu's Cafe in Penrose 10.30am-12.30 ish, the specific address is 761 Great South Road, Penrose, Auckland Next one is this Sunday, 6th
  5. Door damage / front guard damage was insurance claimed @ $250 excess. I had extra work commissioned being resprays of the following: boot, roof, rear 1/4 panel antenna hole welded up, bonnet front bumper LHS mirror = $1452.00

    is this real

Haha. Yeah definitely fake. Cars don't have traction when on a wall perpendicular to the surface of the earth. Unless in the hot-wheels version of the world, gravity goes sideways too.
  7. Mmmm these cars are always dying for a good clean up Will take years off the age once you've finished a good bit of TLC.
  8. Appreciate everyone's thoughts on the matter. So today I printed all those images off with the details noting the issues. 10 pages worth to show the repair shop. The boss was not there, today, but the workshop manager / repairer was . As soon as I said I found issues with the work done he got his back up. This is what he had to say, of course he didn't admit to the work being questionable, it was more attacking my list of issues etc. "how many pages is this??" "how long did it take you to print this, don't you have a girlfriend or things to do" (suddenly made it personal, I stated cars are my hobby) "this is beyond pedantic" "In 20 years I've never seen anything like this" re the stretched headlight "we never put lights face down, they go straight into the back of the car" (then how did those scratches get there?) "You can leave the car here and take the courtesy car" - I declined given the WOF was out. Further more, I wouldnt want to leave the car there when the was no discussion of how the issues would be remedied. Next week I'll speak to the boss about it further as he is the one I want to see over the matter - It will be interesting to see what he says. The next step will be to talk to my insurance provider, I know the guy who runs this niche company whom is also an ex-panel beater / painter by trade so it will be very interesting to see what he can advise. Ultimately the door repair done via insurance is what I'm most pissed about, it looks half done from various reflections. The related during repair headlight damage and poor pinstripe placement are also the issues that should have never been issues in the first place too.
  9. I just picked up my Soarer form being at a panel shop for 5 or 6 weeks. It was to have some guard damage between front right door & guard fixed via insurance ...and extra work I was to pay for as follows: Repaint the following panels: Front bumper Bonnet Roof Rear Boot Weld antenna hole Rear 1/4 panel and paint. Reapply pin stripe Here are all the issues I've identified with the Job, I'm going to see the owner tomorrow morning about my findings having had time to look at the car up close. What are your personal thoughts - am I being too nitpicky? Both front fenders missing pinstripe at forward end between lights and wheel cavity. Excessive gap between high-beam light and bumper on RHS. Should be flush (left side is) RHS headlight has considerable scratches on the lenses. This had a UV spray coating recently applied ($50 PER light) and has been damaged, it would need to be sanded and reapplied. Pictures don’t show scratches easily. Overspray found on top of sunroof corner (attempted to remove it, some remains. Primer overspray found around corner of boot / rear windscreen Double sided tape is poorly applied for ‘SOARER’ badge, roughly cut and exposed all over the place. Damaged guard and door repair is fairly substandard, significant panel gaps are easily visible. Top Arrow points to large gap, lower arrow smaller, correct panel gap Damaged guard and door repairs show the panels are not flush, Note the inconsistent level. The reflection on other angles also shows this. Top of repaired RHS guard bent downwards at the top, not flush. Wrong & unnecessary number plate holes drilled, the black plate holder was not used, and left in the passenger footwell, there are now two white holes in the sides of the plate holder. Forward edge of guard damaged when headlight fitted (RHS) New scratch found between yellow arrows on LHS guard, looks like a craft knife cut for masking tape or similar. It has cut down to the primer level. New pinstripe on RHS sits too high at 5-10mm off from fender line Old pin stripe at correct level LHS (slightly above fender line)
  10. ^ I hope not. I find that immensely crass, especially for a road car.
  11. I LOVE THIS STUFF! Reminds me of the engine rigs that also move about simulating track conditions.
  12. You'll probably get grilled for posting this as its been covered many times in old posts. It's also been shown to spoil the low-mid range torque of the M52B28, so you end up making less torque. Leave it as is and do a nice header for the exhaust then get it remaped
  13. Well done. Hard to beat the E38

Wagon too. Much nicer than the Sedans. Good work !
  15. Such a fitting number plate
  16. Hey lads. Just wondered what common open type diff ratios we get in NZ? I see commonly the 6 cylinders got: 2.93 3.07 3.15 3.46 3.64 But over seas some also got 4.10 A friend of mine is looking at using upgrading to the 4.10 gear set for improved acceleration (currently 3.46) Cheers
  17. I never knew what this thread was about until now. Kudos to the quiters.
  18. Eh, I wouldn't rave home about it if its just Exported American stuff. A lot of their car shows are really tacky and annoying. Can't expect much from the Discovery network given its last few years of program content.
  19. Sharpening up nicely. It's good to see an E38 looked after, far too many aren't!

I went to the bottom and scrolled up haha, hence the WTF moment.

Haha, I got really confused by the LHD interior shot for a second. I then realised it was your car AND another one in LHD.
  22. With such gear I'd avoid the cheaper non brands. The quality and longevity of such a unit makes it a waste of time IMO.
  23. Michael.

    Really ?

Truck driver turned 'King' Would make a good Tui advert or something.

    Really ?

This stuff seems like fairy tail nonsense. It's just endless in its ways to divide the country.
