7 pointsPolished up the wood trims and installed a new Z4m illuminated shifter knob. The extra weight in the shifter knob gives it a bit more of a solid feel, but not as bolt action rifle like as the old ebay short shift kit installed by the po. Clutch is now pretty much broken in. No more squeaky clutch pedal which is also a bonus. I have a full set of spare trims that I'm thinking about painting gloss black with a polished finish...

1 pointUnless you enjoy or do left & right foot braking with heal and toe then with an open mind try an smg. I'd had 28 years of driving manuals as a preference but have only had a SMG for the last 3. I really don't miss a clutch pedal and enjoy the smg as it brings a different driving dynamic . I still however use the gear lever rather than paddles as a preference. I'd be more inclined to find and by and M3 that feels tight as first choice and choose transmission type as second. This was my first consideration and its worked out well so far.(60kms of trouble free driving)

1 pointYou will be out of luck with any S14 (M3 engine) powered cars. If I were you Id stick to NZ so you can see what you are purchasing. Id look for either a E30 M325i or an E36 M3. I dont know what the South African models are worth.

1 pointI did mine at about 280000 km when the oil seperator failed, i took the motor out and delivered it to the workshop, timing chain, guides, tensioner, gaskets, etc plus they checked the bearings etc while they were in there. All up i spent just over $7000 but i havent had to touch the motor apart from services, for over 20000km now and it runs beautifully. Bavarian motors on the shore did the work.

1 pointLooking great dave, although not so sure on the exposed downturned exhaust pipes. Only time i like pipes like that is on diesels, with them shooting smoke at the road under accel.

1 pointThis sort of height. I have a hot hatch as a daily/fun car so I'm not too worried about performance.

1 pointNo longer needed, i was only after the housing too, I didn't need the actual sensor. I ended up just buying a cheap Ebay knock off MAF for $30 delivered

1 pointSo. Lets take the past few days shall we? You helped fund other Kiwis to go to Gallipoli to celebrate our historic 100 year anniversary of the ANZAC landings. [see: http://beehive.govt.nz/release/pm-attend-gallipoli-anzac-day-commemorations] You helped fund civil defence specialists to go and ensure the safety of your fellow Kiwis who are living on the isolated Chatham Islands who have taken a bit of beating from Cyclone Pam. [see: http://beehive.govt.nz/release/minister-thanks-all-involved-cyclone-response] You helped contribute 2.5 million dollars to our Pacific neighbours of Vanuatu who are facing terrible destruction and the aftermath of Pam which includes hygiene and sanitary issues, food shortages, health problems, not to mention deaths. Oh, yeah, you have also helped get many Kiwis home who were stuck there. [see: http://beehive.govt.nz/release/nz-aid-flight-tanna] You have helped fund the development of arguably one of the most neglected but extremely necessary parts of NZ Health system which is Mental Health services for young people (read: depression). [see: http://beehive.govt.nz/release/youth-accessing-primary-mental-health-services] $150,000 (baseline MP yearly salary) x 120 MPs = $18 million. A drop in the bucket in the tax collection world. We don't live in a communist society - so look to live elsewhere if you would like to live in a place where the Govt can dictate market house prices (freedom of market, supply and demand anyone?). This. There looks to me no plan just suggestion. But like most suggestions it needs credible policy framework. This will be years off if it even gets that far. And you are right it will be a logistical nightmare. Exactly the actual ability to implement such a policy is minute. You ask an overseas retailer to add 15% on each transaction that 'appears' to be from NZ I.P? Then buyers use a proxy and make it look like they are elsewhere. You say POS charges will just be made when your debit/credit card is charged by an overseas vendors? How do you monitor that - especially when charges offshore could be made when travelling. You say the responsibility is on the buyer to register all offshore purchases with the Taxman at the end of each financial year? So how do to catch people out? Monitor all NZs incoming mail? And then try to differentiate between what is a gift and what is a purchase? No, no, no. Will not ever be feasible (financially or logistically) ever. My view? Its nice rhetoric to small to medium business owners but it ain't gonna happen. If it could have happened, 7th year into a fiscally prudent National Government, it would have already.

1 pointThe joke of the situation with buying from NZ companies is they don't stock very many items and they have to get it from overseas. They want to charge you freight and then add their 300% margin. They don't even try and be competitive. The 15% GST will make very little difference. I pay the GST on many items anyway. I buy online because it's much easier and very much cheaper.

1 pointAlthough i am all for supporting NZ business, they do need to wake up and be competitive, and competitiveness does not just mean on price. I can look through decide what i want and build a pelican order in about half an hour and buy. No NZ BMW parts specialist new or second hand has that facility, so its usually more than a day backwards and forwards, and I feel bad asking for quotes on 20 things etc with no gaurentee they will get the job. I have no idea if Gavin or Paul etc are cheaper or not on the orders over $800, but because my time is not worth the day or more mucking around, they dont even get thier foot in the door. those guys only get the scraps. That is one example of one sub industry, but its all common place in engineering, goods wholesalers, even shipping companies How long can NZ go on as poor little old us.
