Hi Bimmersport, Yesterday I took ownership of a very special //M - The E39 M5. It was a rather irrational purchase, though I couldn't be happier in hindsight. I picked the car up in Wellington. It's done 150,000kms and the previous owner had it since 37,000kms with full service history. I plan to keep this car long-term and no major plans aside from putting on facelift goodies + muffler delete. ** A big thanks to Martin (BreakMyWindow) and Ray @ HellBM for all the help and advice! Catching up with another Avus Blue owner on the way up: Sitting at home next to the E46:

Hey everyone, Yesterday I flew down to Wellington to collect my 1999 BMW M5. Before heading on my way back to Auckland, I caught up with Aaron "str8_6" to grab a few pictures of our matching M5's. I've just started a project thread which I'll update in due course.

So I roadtripped to Mokau today in the trusty (surprisingly) Range Rover, to pick up a new steed. Enter a 1962ish Landrover Series 2a SWB ute. The rangerover certainly looked the part towing its dad around! Now I'm going to be busy with a grinder and a welder for some time.

If we could get all the old early 90s diesels off our roads it would be a small help, those things are terrible and even though they smoke like buggery they are still on the road. Its certainly not the bulk of the issue, as already mentioned, but its one thing that bugs the sh*t out of me. Old Hiluxes or Hiaces, light commercial trucks etc.

^ time to beef up the electrical grid, get an inter island grid connection that is beefed up, and fire up Huntly after converting it to burn rubbish, gang members, and politicians.

I wouldnt go as far as to say it will kill of desiel cars. If everyone steps back for a second and looks at the scientific results that lead the US regulators to find out .. other vehicles tested where bang on what they said it was, including BMWs desiel tech. The problem is that VW have been really pushing ecodiesel thing and have been sprung lieing and false advertising. Air pollution has nothing to do with the VW debacle, and its funny how mainstream media are trying to cross relate different issues to make it look like the same thing.

my old man has a Rover V8 one. between that an my old Patrol i will never own a passenger car with a solid front axle again. but otherwise i do like it, the cream leather with dark piping really tickles my tastebuds, and the rover V8 as obsolete as it is does sound very cool. I think every real kiwi has a bit of Land Rover in them, whether the like to admit it or not

Only the shocks left now. And I know, I didn't want to part with them they are very good. They just don't work with my current setup unfortunately.

Half way through the Chrome line swap. Rear door cards are done which included swapping out the old speakers(green) which looked good with some from the spare car that look old but work a lot better.. Looking good so far but everything needs a good clean(again)..

I thought the poms were in the process of banning cars over a certain age and engine capacity from inner cities? Go on about cycle ways and public transport all you want, if you choose to take that instead of a 200km/week commute in your 10l/100km car, the reduced carbon foot print is laughable. I understand some people get the warm and fuzzies over thoughts like that though. Either way diesel passenger cars are a fad that is soon to die out, hopefully along with the OTT resale prices. As for carbon footprint, I'm in a workshop with 50 of these. I went driving last month as we were short of drivers and we'd caught up on maintenance. 620hp and 170 tonne. Full noise up hill she sucks one litre every 200m. Or 500l/100km. More fun than public transport.

Hey Guys, Just after a final stage resistor for my E36, fan is intermittent which is going to drive me crazy when I actually would like to use the air con. So if anyone has a working one or can point me in the right direction, other than the dealer. It would be much appreciated! Cheers.

Any one know where I can this stuff in NZ in the 500ml bottles? Have tried Supercheap auto. 20litre drums only. Repco, no joy.

Also Spark (New Zealands actual largets consumer of electricity) will be reducing copper landlines over the coming years to a much more efficient fiber. I dont think we will see the cost savings passed our way however.

Washed the e28 again. Started pulling the e34 apart. Starting with the valve cover, the number 1 intake rocker is broken. Also started taking apart the interior, which is strangely enjoyable.

Thanks guys.... Liked the colour from when I used to live in South Africa. Only difference is they come fully optioned there. Leather interior, sunroof and 18" alloys. Most cars in NZ is not fully optioned.

I had a 1962 SWB Safari, with sun roof. In grey. Of course, us Landie types mean something completely different to what most people expect when we talk about sun roofs! Stripped it, rebuilt it, drove it everywhere. Loved it to bits. Mrs M hated it, claiming the suspension was too hard and made her boobs bounce. Tsk. Spoilsport. Originally a 2.25, it was bored, received a ported and polished 'head, hot cam, and twin SUs. Went like stink! The Fairey overdrive really earned it's keep, and the Fairey capstan winch (PTO) was awesome. I ran underbody runners so the winch could work to the front or rear. I'd love another, but right now isn't the time.

O wow, I remember test driving and getting a pre purchase on this back a few years ago before I bought my m3 Evo. It drove awesome, but Jeff Gray told me to stay away because of the crazy amounts of codes it was throwing with the vanos. It drove very smooth and pulled like crazy for the 3L but the guys told me it wasn't worth the risk. So I'm just hoping/guessing it was fixed up before you bought it! Other than that, have you done anything with the seats? If I remember correctly, they were showing some wear! The guy i was looking to buy off had it for a few years and had been letting his 18 year old son drive it around and it had some small front damage and he ended up getting the full front re-sprayed. Anyways sounds look love how people are willing to put money into these older cars to keep them fresh!

I've been trawling these forums because when I saw your car on Sunday just north of Ohakune on Sunday I knew I had seen it before! Angel eyes looked very nice, stood out well. Funny to see a member in such a place. Good stuff

Rears yes, front shocks definitely not. E30 uses a shock insert where E36 has a complete strut. Have got a niggling suspicion the springs would be the right shape for the front but whether the rates are suitable IDK. OP thats a nice kit to be getting rid of - why the change?

Finished doing the head unit installation on Friday... and holy hell the sound quality improvement blew me away. Will miss the 16:9 screen but I get too many benefits with this new system to miss the old too much apart from appearance. Installed an Alpine CDE-164EBT unit. Bluetooth pairing with phone and all works awesome - had to dish out my old ipod classic and tested music playback with that and it works very well. Steering wheel controls etc. have all been set up to browse through music, control volume, answer calls. e.g. I can run spotify on the phone and control it with steering wheel. Tested it all during my drive to Ohakune on Fri and back on Sunday - the sound improvements make a big difference on the noisier roads. And I can finally control my soundstream sub levels properly (previous stock setup did not let me do so). An e39 fitting kit was put in so the headunit looks fairly flush with the rest of the console - will put up a photo or two soon.

There had to be a cross over point. Emmisions standards = un-obtainible in certain circumstances. The only fix is fossel fuel technology isnt main stream. The time is coming for this as the masses switch to electric technologies. But im more worried about how substainible that is for New Zealand with already over subscribed hydro.

In which case its probably in good condition still. wouldnt expect issues from a new unit for many years. Some good reinforcement kits here, http://www.turnermotorsport.com/BMW-E36/c-87-bmw-reinforcement-kits.aspx

Of course you could inflate a car tire with a bicycle pump, it would take days but it could be done!

Yeah I know what you mean, But I don't think H&R had 4cyl / 6cyl springs. They list as compatible with both but with less of a drop on m3/318i. This is how they sat with an m20.

Typically ill-informed decision making. "CO2 is killing the planet we must reduce CO2", "NO2 is killing the planet , we must reduce NO2" are they dyslexic or just stupid? Not only are they trying to address the issue by targeting the third highest contributor - lets just ignore the electricity generating power stations and old heating equipment and go for an easy target, but they are also only focussing on one particular emissions gas, what about the HC emissions, and CO2 (oh, sorry that was last week's new) and particulates, and the other NOx, etc.... And as for alternatives for HT... there is a reason there aren't any non-diesel trucks out there. Looks and sounds very much like a bit of Tory-graph spin to have a go at the previous Labour Government and their transport policies.
