4 pointsSorry guys and girls , son has decided to buy Rays E46 [bloody nice little gem it is]. Even a bit jealous of it myself. A big thanks to HELLBM
-
4 pointsNo it was too obscure and no one could figure out how to use it.
-
4 pointsDon't forget to budget an extra $1500 for the bubble wrap and FIA helmet. Jesus you must be fun at parties, Ron.
-
4 pointsThats a sweet deal, and a good first car. Be worth a look imo. See above, doubt HellBM would be pushing dodgy death traps out the door. Youre so f**king jaded, get a grip.

2 pointsPut one of these into your e30 right now. You will wonder wtf you were doing driving before with a rack that essentially simulates holding a piece of rope out each window to turn.
-
2 pointsMy first car was a '91 Subaru legacy RS Turbo manual. Was also free (thanks mum)- Must've been a horrible death trap. Had plenty of power to keep me happy, was 4WD, had good tyres on 15x7.5 wheels. Didn't cost $8k, hell I probably spent 2k on it total over the course of my ownership, before it was stolen and blown up. Under $4k for Ray's 318i e46 5 speed is a ridiculously good deal and would make an excellent first car/daily. I'd put a lot of confidence in anything Ray sells also.

2 points^ don't be mean. Variety is the spice of life.
-
2 pointsSomebody with an E36 M3 (or actually any 'sporty' E36) buy this *NOW* you will *NOT* regret it. Yellow tag is effectively the same rack, some people wank on about the difference but there is no real world difference. I have a "purple" rack in my M3 and it's awesome - wreckers sell these all day for NZ$350 - at $200 it's a f'ing bargin. Can't believe it hasn't been snapped up. Edit: cleanest one I've ever seen too lol.
-
2 pointsWatching with interest because I want to retire the M3 from DD duties soon and just want a hack.

1 pointYep meant scan/monitor live data - i should have been more specific. I remember my E39 having all the lights on & no fault codes Wasn't till I looked at live data & caught the R/H rear sensor intermittently dropping out. Smelling a rat - I checked the output voltage to the sensor at the module & confirmed that dropping out intermittently - one f##ked ABS module

1 pointlol. Nice to see I'm not the only one who does car work inside the house..
-
1 pointHeh that pic ! Don't worry, I've been planning to supercharge my engine for sometime, started some CAD ground work mid winter, your thread has motivated me to get back into it The design phase is the harder part, but it's helped having a engine head set in my room for such development purposes.
-
1 pointLooks like they're used on all sorts of platforms. Not trying to give you any ideas Michael..lol

1 pointHi all, Well Ive just come back form a successful week of racing over 1000kms over the week that is Targa NZ and Its the longest rally of its kind in the world. Between my wider family we had 5 entries of 4 BMWs (2 E30 M3's one E30 325 and my compact) and one Subaru wrx comming from Australia. The compact Finished 4th overall out of 60 something cars, my brother Carl finished 3rd in classics, My old man in the M3 had engine issues relating to oil consumption and the other M3 had a major engine mechanical problem resulting in bits of piston littering the road! Just wanted to say thanks to Ray from HellBM for his help leading up to the event, loaning my parts to hget the engine running and the offer for a new P/S pump during the event. Hes a good bugger! Kayne Barrie from Kayne Barrie Motorsport for also helping out with the power steering issue and the loan of parts. He was up out of bed until 1am on Monday helping us out. Another good bugger! Gavin Bellers from Hi Velocity for his work with the new S54 transplant, he worked through multiple problems and we've ended up with a good package fore the event. sh*t it was a long week, glad its over but man it was fun!

1 pointThey're H&R Springs with bilstein sports shocks i think. Rides very nicely keeps the factory sports comfort not bumpy at all
-
1 point^ fair point. 55 profile is huge. 225/45/17 is the correct size for fronts and 245 40 17 for rears if staggered for rears otherwise keep same front and back.
-
1 pointSurely 55's are not standard fitment for a 17 on an e46? My motorsport e46 had 225/45/17 for fronts from the factory. It would mess up the gearing and the speedo surely? Not to mention making the car sit higher.

1 pointThanks. It was the coil. After I replaced it my car ran good. Scanned for error codes and the 2FA3 disappeared. I too plugged off the recir valves to get the blow of valve sound. Not really loud but sounds nice. The tune was definitely better than the stock and worth the money. The 2nd gear was kind of conservative , did not feel much of a difference but from the 3rd was where I felt the car getting pushed harder. The gear changes and the power delivery were smooth. The stage 1 91 oct map gave a max boost of around 14 psi. I use BP 98 for gas and I was wondering if I should use the Stage 1 93 oct variant map, if that would give me a better edge. Looking forward to get an aftermarket charge pipe with bov and a fmic during summer. I will be logging values and might post in the forums for feedback. Having fun with the new tune at the moment

1 pointIm working on something similar for both my V8s, keen to see how yours comes out As for the bonnet buldge, ive done mine, I can probably help with yours haha would be something different on the Seven'a
-
1 pointI'd be intrigued to see how well they would go with such extra stress.

1 pointBrendon and I were testing out WOT with a a small incline when it first happened (pipe popped off). We pulled over, re-connected the pipe and reset faults and reset data logging. Alas the pipe popped off again on map one. Got it back to the workshop and checked the retaining spring clip which is just made of mild steel that has been anealed, bent it to put some strength back into the clip clamp pressure and re-installed. Went for another hoon, this time hit full boost with no worries then tried again. Heard the big pop, this time it broken the plastic collar around the pipe. Basically the charge pipe design isn't meant for anything over stock boost. The design has no tolerance for extra pressure and I suspect the collar was circuming to expansion of the main pipe, hence the breakages being reported. I suspect a lot of it is to so with the weak retaining clip as well. Haven't had a chance to drive and log on the new charge pipe yet, but will do shortly.

1 pointI think the M62 would be quite strong, similar crank / rod and piston design / technology as the M52. Can't see why it wouldn't handle 600hp + on a good setup
-
1 pointI've tamed a machinist, and he is pretty good with the price of one-off type jobs. But his lead times can be pretty massive. If the guy who originally made em can supply you that's the way to go, otherwise see if you can get the files... +1 to pants bonnet bulge

1 pointPaging Hans He ever has an E38 he could model off Sounds like the power bulge officially just became a thing.

1 pointThe amount of attention I get on the road with this car has been enormous and people wanting to take a photo of it and get questioned about the car and so on. Dreamer Confirmed

1 pointAnd you brought the M5 for it's ecconomy, ease of maintenance, and the low costs of it's parts... Get some transformer oil, and fill it up :-) Oil cooled actuators A few Electric Bike guys have done it, and lower temps/increased motor life (they can do 50MPH in a few seconds... on a push bike, so it's a fair bit of heat created)

1 pointJust dropped off the old girl to get the VANOS unit replaced. I picked up a second hand unit a while back from a member here who imported a s50b32 for a race car with relatively low kms. Since it was a race car, he ditched the VANOS. Apparently my VANOS is stuff (according to a few experienced people who have driven it recently), which was not really noticeable to me since I never had much time (or any really) in a s50b32 with working VANOS. I was happy with the power, and power delivery, but I suppose I was just enjoying a 3.2L high comp engine. Will be interesting to see the results (if infact the vanos was pooped) and any torque increases under 4k rpm where the vanos is supposed to help will jsut be a bonus after owning the car since last year!

1 pointThrashed her round a paddock all day at an autocross, great fun Edit: photos just came up

1 pointMy pedantic streak immediately went "but there is no such thing as S52 ITBs". Looks like a really cool build though , I hadn't seen it before. At the price though, I feel like you could make your own...

1 pointAbout time i did an update on my Touring project. Its not taking off like i had hoped yet due to other goals taking priority, and the car taking a back seat, but i have slowly been chipping away to some extent. Being brought up with American classic and muscle cars in my blood, it was decided to keep things V8, so the touring will be getting an m62b44 conversion! Its time to get out of my comfort zone, as the only place to get somewhere you’ve never been is to do things you’ve never done, right? Engine mounts, gearbox crossmember extensions, subframe spacers and an rpm tacho module was purchased from Garagistic. I also snapped up a 2.93 LSD diff, this needed the rear cover to be changed to suit an e30 and a delrin bush was added, cheers to Kerry from Mosen Euro Parts for helping me out there. Then it was filled with Castrol XJ oil and ready to go! My focus changed to the rear end of the car after that and i decided to give it all a freshen up. with the subframe being blasted and powder coated, new bushings from Revshift and a cleanup and paint of the trailing arms, i finally got this all installed yesterday. Another major part of the puzzle is the gearbox, i decided to go with a 6 speed Getrag 420g, this was purchased off eBay along with the shifter, and eventually got to NZ after nearly 4 months of hassles and sh*t communication from Kiwi Shipping, cheers to Troy for helping with this. Still a long way to go but at least the dream has started!
