reservoir tank split down the side which had to happen sooner or later. Put her in for some love and had the full cooling system done as well as full service. Found the painters elbow was naffed as well so did that at same time. All good now and back home ready for a trip away at easter.

checking if the Vanos is still operating is the first step, and rebuilding if necessary. from there, can open up the exhausut a bit, leave the intake side well alone apart from putting a fresh air filter into the STOCK airbox, make sure the oxygen sensors are working correctly and within spec. after all that, book it in to be remapped, note this will involve a drive to auckland, there just isnt anyone experienced with remapping BMWs in wellington. hope this helps. can also look into stroking it and/or cam swaps etc but gets into the big $$ at that point

Think its the same as the M54 - non-return fuel lines on the feed rail, hence the FPR & return line on the fuel filter

The lci on these was 2007, and its worth hanging out for. I recommend the M5!

I've been buying from FCP since 2006, they're consistently very good. if you want another freight option, do a search on "myus.com visa promotion" and get 2 years free premium membership, 30 days free storage, discount on freight etc. if you can buy at reasonable prices locally, better to support locals.

I'm not the seller, just spotted these on my four time daily BBS search. I'm assuming some E30 guys will be chasing these? Bargain. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/wheels-tyres/alloy-wheels/auction-1051804563.htm

    Ron has consistent history though.
  16. 1 point
Apparently there was a defense fabricated that his estranged wife needed the classic car with a button clutch in order to get his kids to school, despite her having her own car for this purpose. I highly doubt a blatant lie like that would have gone down well with a judge, and certainly at the least means he already failed the "character" test, so that the judge would not hesitate to lay down the full extent of the law at sentencing. Just what I've heard from another forum, but I wasn't there, I don't know his history or the full story. I do think it's justified though, if they'll do it to a boy racer who won't pay his fines, why not to a middle-aged man who is equally "anti-social".

on the surface this looks disproportionate. The guy sounds like a twunt. as Ron points out, appeal denied. Our media has been reduced to largely meta-reporting Twitter and Facebook, and puff-pieces - like this story. One-sided, no investigation. Taking the humourous approach: his car could be impounded, and he is forced - for a year after getting his license back - to drive a Daewoo Matiz, with a speed limiter on it. Then has to pay $2500 per month storage, plus fees. If unable to pay, car sold to defray costs. Nope, doesn't work does it - the govt's core business is not car storage!! The bigger story here is that someone paid 60k for a south african fairmont XYGT look-alike? Good lord. You can get a sh*t-hot e30 M3 for that money, flights a room in a hotel, a good meal, champagne, a massage, insurance, and fuel to drive your newly acquired M3 home!
  18. 1 point
For similar money as the M52 you can go to the M54B30. Does require a bit more time / $ / planning but the results are worth the effort. Just need an aftermarket ecu capable of supporting dual vanos & DISA and youre away laughing

Dude. For the last time I'm not (that means "not") saying the penalty is unlawful. I'm saying the penalty doesn't match the crime because there are worse crimes with lessor penalties. Take a deep breath and think about my words, not your emotional reaction to my post, and you'll eventually work it out. You're arguing against the wrong thing into empty space.

Charged the battery & moved it for the first time in 2 months. Sprayed off the cobwebs with a hose

If it is the HG you'll need to get the block deck surface checked for straightness and probably have the head bolt threads helicoiled. The ali blocks tend to have the bolts pulled out of them when they overheat, if it has moved I'd be scrapping it and replacing with an engine known not to have baked itself - the overhaul costs aren't cheap mate
  23. 1 point
I didn't see that he had a prior conviction, but even so I don't understand the logic here. With regard to Ron's comment - sure gun could equal car as a deadly weapon and if you shot someone I would expect you to lose the gun and your license. But in this case they sold his 'historic vehicle' and gave him some of the money back. He can and most likely will buy another car and that right is unaffected. On second thought the gun analogy is not sound - a gun is a weapon with no real other purpose (people will argue this but hopefully we don't have too many nra card holding Americans on this site). A car is a means of transport foremost and I think there's a fairly big difference from doing a little skid and pointing a gun at someone.

Just bought all my exhaust tubing, bends flexi's and v-bands. time to get this bitch plumbed up. waiting for the last of my parts from pelican and ergen motorsports, then i can get the final mock up done and get the motor out for prep of the engine bay

Those are extreme cases and should be resulting in people being locked up though. Someone with 29 convictions shouldn't even be walking freely! Like I said, NZ has a weird way with justice.

Yeah, enough to make the 530i a nicer car to drive. your M54B25 is good for 141kW & 245Nm torque, the M54B30 delivers 170kW & 300Nm - in old money the 3 litre has an extra 30hp & 40 ft/lb over the 2.5. I have a 530i estate as a daily for the wife & kids, and while it's no 1/4 mile monster it gets up to 100km/hr nice and effortlessly, overtaking is a breeze & compared to my E36 325i (which, incidentally, delivers nearly identical power figures to the M54B25) I rarely have it at WoT to pass someone, where the poor old E36 gets wound right up to overtake. The V8 is a lovely engine with higher output, but I feel the older design steering and extra weight of the bigger donk make the 3 litre a nicer car to live with on a day to day basis. You should be able to step up to a 530i with very little extra cost once you sell your 525i, they really are extremely cheap these days. You should still get around 6k for your 2.5, excellent examples of the 530iM are around 8-9k. If you can find one, the 3l diesels are great engines too - but they're practically unobtanium here in NZ. Short of aftermarket cosmetics (which will make the car harder to sell) there isn't much you can do to the appearance of the E39, and door-doof ain't gonna make it go faster! I understand the E60 is a nice car too, but to get a newer equivalent to the 530i M-sport you'll have to shell out more like 16-18k, guess it depends on how much you want to spend on a car really.

Bargain? Not sure. Although, given the prices of 15x7 BBS rims (changed hands for less than 50 quid a set in the UK!) over here they are relatively well priced. If the centre bore really is 55mm, they're too small for an E30 which requires 57.1mm. No mention of offset.

Thinking about selling my E30 and just want to see whether there is any interest for it. 1986 E30 325i PFL Cosmos Blue Metallic PRICE: $5k Bought it probably 6 months ago now for $6k, I've only put about 300 KM's on it. Always kept her clean, waxed, and garaged. Literally never drive her anymore, So she just sits in my garage and I take her out every weekend to keep the battery going. 256,000KM's, and the only real noticeable signs that she might of done that many is that the valve clearance/tappets tick is audible(especially with the stock exhaust). With a new engine and you wouldn't even think it had 100,000. The Bad: -I believe it still has original clutch in it, its perfectly drive-able but I have a replacement anyway, Just haven't got round to getting it put in. - Sticking with the transmission, From the research I've done it seems like either the input shaft bearing or throwout bearing needs replacing as after the engine is warm and the clutch is out(car in neutral) there is a tapping noise coming from the tranny. -Valve clearance/tappets tick after 3k revs is pretty audible(especially with the stock exhaust). Doesn't 'really' affect drive ability and you get used to it. -No radio or dome lights I am planning to get clutch replaced and the bearing replaced at the same time and I've been quoted around $450-510 for clutch replacing labour, not too sure on bearing replacement cost. With that in mind I'd consider selling it for cheaper as it is now with the fact that they would probably need to be fixed/replaced eventually. The good: -Lowered on Kings springs(looks much nicer, but its not too low) -Pretty much new brake pads -M-tech 1 Steering wheel -No dent's -Interior is pretty mint, all matching door cars and seats etc. -Chrome bumpers still all shiny and good condition. -No rust that I've found. -Paint is still pretty good, No signs of clear coat fade, Not one spot of rust on the car that I have found yet, The odd rock chip in the front in the clear coat but that's inevitable. -Tires have plenty of tread, and has bottle caps on it that are good condition other than the BMW logo/stickers in the middle have come off. -Has a sunroof which is always a bonus. -Starts first time and has never given me a problem -Crackless dash -Manual -It's a Manual 325i e30... isn't that enough.... Odd jobs I've done: Tranny oil change I did an oil and filter change when I first got it. Reconnected the heater core as it was bypassed(leak tested it as well) Replaced some fuel line that was getting dry/brittle. Painted valve cover Hoping to get somewhere in the $5-6K range ideally, And like I said previously, Could sell it to the buyer as it is now and reduce the price(around $5k) for repairs and give them the replacement clutch etc. Or get it fixed and try to sell it for around $6k in the future. Unfortunately don't have many interior/specific photo's(some of which are from when I bought it(ones with the basket weaves)) as I wasn't really thinking of selling it yet, but if theres interest I'll take some more. EDIT: ADDED SOME INTERIOR PHOTOS. - as you can see all that is really needed to complete the interior to make it perfect is the driver side under steering wheel kick panel and a radio/cover plate.

Touch-less washes are only any good at keeping a clean car clean, and your right if the chem dosing or cycle duration's get out of spec you'll eat your paint. Red is the most susceptible leaving a cloudy/chalky appearance. Most of the water reclaim systems wind up being bypassed as they require significant upkeep, or you get oils and road film being reapplied with the first rinse. If the system is operating correctly the recycled water is only used for the initial wash down. Generally speaking I'd avoid any machine car wash (touch-less or roll-over brush) if you want you paint finish to remain intact.

am i the only one curious to see how long the trans lasts? Its costing nothing but fluids, filter, time and pain, so not a huge deal of harm to try.
  44. 1 point
Allan has some good points. I know you're emotionally attached to the N46 (though I and a lot of other folk don't fathom why ) but this to me looks like the death knell. On the basis of economic sense it seem to me you're better to cut your losses with this one and either outright replace it or use it as a parts source to get the B25 running again. Is the 325i still registered or has it lapsed / dereged?
  45. 1 point
Just get a used trans, rebuilds are almost the price of a new one. Or just convert to manual. Hellbm has a new shipment of manuals that have just landed.
  46. 1 point
Talk to Ray @ HellBM he's done a hell of a lot of conversions on E46's

    I'm with glenn, trans cooler.
  48. 1 point
Trans cooler on most cars is just a pipe running inside the bottom/side tank of the radiator with trans fluid running through it. If it leaks, trans oil and coolant will make babies. Im guessing the trans doesnt have a dipstick? stupid lifetime oil.
  49. 1 point
Well, you need to listen to Glenn before me! But if there's mayo on the cap and mayo in the radiator, if I hadn't seen Glenn's comment, my guess would be head gasket gone in a big, big way to cause that.
