After what I paid for it: $12,700 I haven't had it for long (just before lockdown) but I'm thinking of selling the 130i. It only gets runs at the weekend as I walk to work and I'm thinking I might get more use out of an offroader. Man Maths may still prevail and allow me to have 2 cars but its just not a sensible option at the moment. Anyway: ~107,000km Lovely condition - few imperfections (stone chips, slight scrape on the bumper, very mild kerbing on alloys) BMWP Exhaust - Brilliant noise, a little louder on cold start-up but then is quiet until you really get on the throttle (original exhaust can come with the car but has been chopped so a little fabrication would be required) BMWP Air Intake - Looks the part. Was on the car when purchased (as with exhaust) so no idea how it really changed the performance/noise. Recent tyres - Hankook Ventus Primes Clean WOF from Feb 2020 Rego out in Oct but I'll be adding 6 months when I get round to it

The leather has also had a bit of attention with the Colourcare system, looking a lot better now, also replaced the back seat base with a spare recently acquired...

Have managed to do a little bit on the car in the last month. Focus has been on the front of the car, headlights and bumper. Bumper has a number of cracks which I'm addressing with a large old soldering iron and bog... the left "pork chop" getting some attention as they are hugely expensive... the headlights have been taken apart for adjuster replacement and lens polishing, back in now, but the auto levelling system doesn't appear to be working so requires some investigation. Plus I have a condensation issue in the right hand side light. It has a new gasket and the rear vents are clear, so head scratching on that one... The front bumper will come off soon for a proper fix up and I'll give it a go at painting it, as the weather warms up... same with rear bumper in due course... The oil leaks on engine appear to be the vanos solenoid gaskets, possibly the valve covers, and the rear main seal. I'll be ripping the front off the engine to attend to some of this. I've decided to recondition the transmission when the time comes instead of fitting another, that's when the rear main seal will be replaced. I've also lined up a change in interior to silver trim, along with replacement door cards and centre console with blue stitching. A widescreen monitor will also come in. Another bootlid as well with the wide number plate recess. It's looking like a bit of a long termer... too much to do...

You forgot the part about it being an NZ New manual I do not need 2 130s. I do not need 2 130s. I do not need 2 130s....

I fail to see how this is worth more than the sum of its parts? A handful of alpina bolt ons, custom exhaust and an engine rebuild...? Where’s the alpina steering wheel and interior, body kit, other fruit and of course one of their signature colours and pin striping?

Cool, but I'd rather have someone make my own spec e30 for $60k

I run a small business doing auto electrical work full time specifically for Toyota Soarers, but branching out to other Lexus-Toyota models. Get stuff sent to me for repairs from all over the world, it's pretty good. Did some BMW things originally, but not so much anymore.

E87s tail light seals leak, and fill up the boot space that a few computers sit it, most common is the PDC. Which ends up sitting in a few inches of water, in its own private pool. I dont thing E9x's suffer from the same thing, but the results look the same - christmas tree of seemingly unrelated error codes.

Cut, smashed, bashed, ground, hit, yanked....and managed to get enough clearance for fan to sit behind...???? Used 0.5 of A twin holden fan setup?

pretty easy to recode/program and secondhand dme back in. get in touch if you need assistance.

Id guess more electrical faulty, as above... if it was a 130 id say something like the PDC swimming in water will do that.

I'm kind of hoping I can sell the car + bits as a package to a BMW fan via this site. If it gets to the point that I really want to shift the car and advertise it on Facebook/trademe I'd offer up the BMWP parts here first. You'll be the first to know if/when that happens ?

Oh no not yours too! I hope yours is easier to fix Didn't think water pump issue would lock it in park? I've heard about people just driving short distances at a time to move these cars when the water pumps die. It's an odd mix of codes, cam shaft, water pump, DME, trans locked in park... likely just a dying battery or alternator? It's usually something electrical when a bunch of seemingly unrelated faults pop up at once.

I don't need 2, let alone 3! If you want to swap that intake for a stock one with BMC filter + cash your way send me a PM, you'll likely get more dosh that way than installed on the car. Regardless, GLWS.

Finally finished up with this install (or so I though, my front right door speakers are not working / very quiet now....oh the fun!).... This is one of those installs that the first time you do it it's going to be a bit of a pain...but looking back having learned the issues and how to resolve them would probably allow me to repeat the job in half the time. Total fitting time including a little bit of dash cutting was about 6 hours.

Damn that car was an absolute bargain considering the goodies on it.

Fak. Might keep the BBS on the e90 and the 193 on the soon to be steel grey e46. Could be the winning combo.

It sure does. Fits like a glove too 225/40 + 255/35

No... possibly something to do with the crankcase venting??? Edit: solved and boy they make some purdy stuff... Google translate works okay. https://www.gulfstream.co.jp/products/detail.php?product_id=127 Doesn't seem to have done much for my fuel consumption though! ?

If I hadn't added a car only this week, I'd buy the E30 tomorrow. leichtbau you do not need another 2.7

So apparently the ballast has to go back to the supplier before they can release the replacement. They offered to sell me a replacement and then credit it back once the warranty process is complete but I'll give it a week and see what happens. Cameron at BM Parts has been super cool to deal with though so they get my recommendation. Also going to take the car to Eurocare next week for a scan and see if they can nail down what's causing the ABS trifecta. I'm assuming the ABS module but my speedo etc are still working fine so I'm not 100% sure. I have a spare module from my old car so hopefully that's compatible if it is the module. Pic was taken about 10mins after the low beam headlight warning came back on ?

Time for a plate change, went slim on front, not sure. Really need to see the front in the light. Euro look is definitely better and a bit of double meaning in the plate ?

I had the wrap and having done the exploration on Blacklines I thought I'd have a go... they look awesome... ...from a distance! ? The first wrap I've ever done and it's a shocking job. The angles and creases in the lights are not suitable for a beginner to attempt. I had enough wrap for three lights so I had three goes, they got progressively better but at the rate of improvement I'd need to do another 20 to get it right. I realise you're not meant to wrap lights but these still work fine and they're no darker than the official Blacklines. These won't pass a warrant because the bubbles and creases in the tint are obvious but hey, I have two sets of lights. This is enough to convince me I need official Blacklines.

Spoiler alert. IT RUNS! Very happy and glad I made the choice to take it to P&S' workshop as there were a myriad of electrical gremlins resolved (including replacing the E39 engine loom). While there it also received Wheel alignment - now within E30 spec for cert General check over Exhaust fitment Shifter re-fit (I hadn't had time to finish properly). But again, big shout out to Peter and the team at P&S in East Tamaki. Hoping it comes home this week so I can finish the panel work, replace tyres and get on with the cert.

Once again time has got the better of me. Long story short, I spent a few weeks diagnosing why the car wouldn't start. Got frustrated with not getting far, put most of the car (rapidly) back together so it could go on a tow truck to visit the kind folk at P&S Automotive. In the meantime I've found a certifier close to home who will do a cert when it's ready. And remembered where I put the exhaust and rear bumper....

Back on the road post-lockdown. As per last post I was having a challenge bleeding the clutch. Tried pumping clutch method (till my son and wife got fed up), reverse bleed, vacuum bleed and power bleed (thanks Nick from Weitz Ind. for the loan) but just couldn’t get all the air out and good pressure. So I ordered a replacement slave (waited a week from FCP), installed and still no improvement! So ordered new flexible hose into the slave, master cylinder from FCP (another week) and inlet hose and connector locally (Level2). Once I got the master out it was obviously toast with gaiter torn and weeping. Followed an excellent diy on how to replace the master and clean/re-lube the pedal assembly https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?785827-Clutch-Master-Cylinder-Replacement-amp-Creaky-Pedal-Fix-DIY It is a real fiddly job in an awkward place. Having the drivers seat out imo made it a lot easier. Used the power bleeder, so easy to use just put a bottle of Castrol Dot4 in container, Connect to reservoir, pump up to 20psi, connect hose and catch-can to slave, open nipple, wait until fluid comes through and no air. Done. While waiting for parts I had collected some replacement door cards from Pick-a-part. They were from a 98’ coupe in grey, had a crack but otherwise great condition with no separation and pockets sound. Plastic top rails were broken but I had sourced some alloy replacements ex-Turtle Labs. Cleaned, repaired and painted the cards. Once we got to Level3 I was able to drop off to Master Trim here in Hamilton. I also dropped in the drivers seat which was well worn, separating and shabby. I sourced the material out of Arizona when I was in SoCal last year. While I had the seat out I removed the passenger seat as well and gave the carpets and seats a good clean. Master Trim had them back to me inside a week and what an improvement. Turtle’s recommendation is to place the top rail in its door clips apply the adhesive to the rail and I used Ados High Performance Adhesive Sealant which is flexible, handles heat and similar that used for mounting windscreens. Based on my research should do the job. Interior looks great now and even has that new car smell. Makes such a difference.

Awesome to drive though will improve with new tyres all round. All M3 suspension with KW coilovers. Aprox extra 30kg with S65 and DCT vs. the N46/auto transmission. Overall about 200kg lighter than an M3.

What might this at the back of my engine bay be? It's etched with 'Orange Wolf' (same brand as my exhaust and coilovers) and has a directional arrow implying it's a one way/check valve. Edit: solved - https://www.gulfstream.co.jp/products/detail.php?product_id=127
