Fitted another interior piece over the weekend courtesy of @Matt Looks and feels awesome, goes well with the bmw performance alcantara bits on the handbrake and shifter. Doesn't match my fauxcantara mirror though 🤣 Have barely driven the car this year, so only noticed that the headlining sagging has gotten much worse since last time I checked it so I've booked it in to be replaced. Not cheap :S Swapped the BMW Performance shifter knob back to the stock and its a million times better. The BMWP knob looks great but its way too small for my hand. Still have an intake boot to fit on the car, and the oil pan gasket/engine mounts might finally get done soon. Though I've said that a couple of times. Here's hoping anyway 🤞

Did basic service today, and as an experiment left the lid off the airbox... took it for a blat. Epic induction noises , noticeable resonant howl when second vanos stage opens up. Roughly same intake temps when moving, circa 4 degree delta over ambient, but expectably spikes up quickly when stopped.

Yes, its my car... and I wrote that as too many times, my auctions have been derailed or had its value impacted by inane questions from people that have no interest in buying....I may change my mind but its easy enough to text me lol...

Is it just me or does anyone else not like Carwow videos? All they seem to do is drag races. Zero care for drag racing.

Maybe I was a little too subtle. I pick up an E60 M5 this weekend having receipts for the main items and a decent PPI report leaving me with a chunk of change to bring it up to my standard, fuel and emergencies.

Hey guys, First time ever trying to learn anything about cars and do some things myself, so I apologize if this is really obvious/dumb sh*t to ask. I've found the air intake pipe replacement, but i'm unsure of the other circled things in the pictures and where to get them, if anyone could assist me that'd be really appreciated.

Honestly - I have no ______ idea.... 🤣 (Maybe keep blue if it turns out good - sell silver if someone is stupid kind enough to pay me a $$sh__t_n$$ for it... - or do a few swaps of key items between them to end up with a good blue...) ((Plan will change tomorrow...)) (((Silver goes back to Transmission Shop next week to hopefully resolve the 5-4 jolt)))

Pop a 9xx Ducati in the garage with the leftover change.

No, Topaz Blue Boston, same as my pervious 530 motorsport. (fun fact - regarding the e39 M5 - only 1 was made worldwide in Topaz Blue - RHD and it's in Victoria Australia I think - woodgrain trim though kinda spoils it for me...) Got to 289k km and if I hadn't opened it up not sure how much longer TBH.

It doesn't rank highly in the value for money stakes, but they were made to order by Benda interiors in Germany... https://shop.benda-interiors.com/en/alcantara-speedometer-trim-bmw-e81-e82-e87-e88-black-double-seam-orange-parts-of-ecd-performance1#product_info

I don't truly know, but I'd say it's in reference to a convertible top being referred to as a hood? There's definitely a whole bunch of generational automotive terms like that. When I was in the trade I remember one particular panel beater giving me an absolute earful for not knowing what a quarter glass was. Clock spring is another term that comes to mind (neither a spring, nor related to clocks).
  16. 1 point
I would say almost 95% of people over 50 in the motor trade would refer to the head liner as a hood liner.

Thanks..I dont have a sound clip of it... but if you google Laptorr E87 exhaust there are a few sound clips to be found...its deep, throaty, no drone, cars behind will hear it pop and crackle on decel and in between gears under throttle....

Thanks for pointing out my typo..Ive fixed it.... Its a new headliner...

Does look like a great example!

It's good you've fixed that - at least halfway. By refusing to answer questions via the Q&A function, you'd put off at least half of your genuine buyers - those with a brain - as you deny them a record of your extended description of the state of the car. That's an "unintended consequence" of being distracted by the very market you wish to avoid, yet are primarily focussed on. I like the fancy exhaust!

The 120aH non REX i3 is looking more and more appealing - pick up a second hand one ex-UK, 250ish real world km and pick up a healthy rebate...

I just can't see this going anywhere. Scaring people into shitty 2nd hand short life electric vehicles will only drive up the price of the already limited and poor quality imports. I'm betting Japan can't wait to dump all the old crap on us. I was interested in the new Honda E. But pretty average range and they are $64k for an ex demo.... https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/honda/other/listing/3079178330?bof=Didrf8jt Hmm I wonder if you can fudge the battery life details via programming.

Hold onto the bits. You will make some good money someday without all the effort of E30ing.

There would certainly be another dimension added to the planning of modifying a car that's for sure, again it depends on how the test is applied. If you put an M54 into an E30 I would expect that it would give better emissions than the original M10 / M20 / M40 unit, so could be OK if measured against the original factory specs. It's exactly this that should be cut down on IMHO (for road cars, not race cars so I'm clear - race cars don't do enough miles to make any impact) the number of "cat removed exhausts", "EGR delete", "ECU mapped" cars that are "it's all good for a WoF bro they never notice" is bloody ridiculous. There is a reason the manufacturer spend many thousands of dollars to get the factory tune into your vehicles, and yes it is easy to get "more power" but at what costs? All the more reason for it's introduction then, just because many of the cars, and especially light commercial van's and trucks, in NZ are poorly serviced and need maintence (as evidenced by the clouds of black smoke coming out the back) is not an excuse. Basic stuff like changing the oil, oil filter and air filter on a regular basis make a big difference, on diesels overhauling / replacing the injectors also makes a huge difference, but all too often the penny pinching approach of run it into the ground is allowed to prevail because it's not picked up on. Yes, I apprecaite that all the cars in NZ probably make the tenths of nothing difference to the global picture, but there is no point trying to push people down the electric route to reduce emissions without also looking to get the worse offenders off the roads at the same time. It will affect some of the lower income road users, but also there are a lot that can afford to change that simply can't be bothered.

Anything CAN be repaired, it's just a question of the cost versus replacing with a new one. Looking a the photo and seeing the level of damage on that one I would say it's pretty close to being cheaper to buying a replacement part. Probably a few F20 M-Sport skirts at the specialist wreckers, Hell BM, etc. by now, might even be one in the right colour if you are lucky.

Not exactly answering your question, but there were only 26 NZ new examples of the F13 M6. I will try and find how many were imported from overseas and how many are left. Interestingly of those 26 all but 1 (a Wellington car) all were originally sold in Auckland, again I will try and find out if any have migrated down to CHCH, well there is obviously one, but I mean I will try and see if there are any others. The link above is quite useful, but it only shows those vehicles where their registered persons have not asked for their information to be hidden, so there are possibly more than the numbers quoted.

All this talk of curry and roti is making me very hungry.. I keep looking for a cheap(ish - it's all relative) E30 that is suitable for a quick tidy-up and flip, I've got a garage full of E30 parts that are all ready to be used, but I haven't seen anything hit the market that fits the bill. The possilby rusty Pre-FL 318 was as good candidate - but that sold before I could even call the guy, so there are obviously others out there doing the same. But then I already have two E30s in the garage needing time and attention, adding a third one is probably not the best idea for marital peace and harmony. If the E30 had a few more safety features it could possibly be suggested as an ideal first car for the kids, but I don't think that will fly without an airbag or traction control..

Try this, not very accurate but might be good enough (NZ only) https://www.carjam.co.nz/nz-fleet/?order_by=count_desc&year=&make=BMW&model=m6

Oh I missed that 😮 Correct that means no CF roof and a bit less headroom. You need the extra headroom when wearing a helmet on the track too.

Also some cosmetics were played with prior to turning attention to the engine... headlights sanded, fog-light replaced, interior trim re-glued or replaced... thorough clean of interior (it was bad...)

Decent box of suspension parts arrived from fcp last week. All the front and rear bump stops, spring pads etc needed in preparation to refresh the shocks, struts and springs around September.

the whole thing is stupid from top to toe. under the emmissions trading scheme, New Zealands emissions are capped already, and you already pay your contirubution toward that at the pump. Switching to EVs has the wider effect of freeing up emissions for other industries. there will be no overall decrease in emmissions. The subsidy is supposed to lower emmissions. true for cars, but not overall.

Im following this one for sure! If I can find a reasonably costed replacement for my M5 I'll be in too. I have a couple of shipping and freight friends I could ask about more economical shipping options. But I think right now things are hard in that industry.

We were in a similar position and went with a jap import E91 LCI N52 325i. Had the CIC converted to English (by the dealer), fixed up the usual oil leaks, 18" BBS LMs and fitted a electrically operated westfalia towbar. Has been a good runner ever since, going on 4 years and 40,000kms later. The LCI looks like a totally different car than the pre facelift. Only complaints would be the msport suspension being super crash even without run-flats (no spare tyre) and the cabin seems quite claustrophobic.

you only heard it idling and gentle revving up to 1500rpm! If it's "sound like a tractor ™" or "sound like an RB30 with fart cannon", you can probably acheive that sophisticated sound with the following: a grinder drill mig welder Please read the following contraindications before removing the innards of your exhaust: Contraindications may include: Headaches Nausea May be tiresome on a trip through resonanse droning May attract the attention of the constabulary May cause you problems with WoFs May cause you to fall out with your neighbours You may experience halucinations (such as you are being followed by a Nissan Skyline)
