Hey folks.. Thought id spend some time for a bit of a write up here to share with you all one of the little projects of mine from last year. So... Lets start at the start. I come back to NZ... Catch up with some old friends, and between us we decide its a good idea to go endurance racing.. Great.. We have a car, E36 325i.. Cage, coilovers and a slippy diff.. We are sorted. So off we go. Well after a couple of 8hour events at taupo and consistently getting JUST beaten by a Sanyong Ute with 120L fuel tank that could run 2 less pit stops than us.. We decided to take action.. We needed a bigger fuel tank.. Well.. 9 months later and more than a few hours.. We end up with the "new car".... What goal posts??? Details to follow!!

... what do you think of this ? These guys... https://beacham.co.nz/beacham-e-type/ have come a long way since I saw them installing the entire drive train from a late model Corvette into a restored E-Type shell. Their work is right up there with the very best in the world, and they are doing it all right here in NZ Cheers...

Yep. Was actually back in Dec 2020. Just got the very start of MIQ. I was in Rotorua, had a great time actually. But managed to get in before the backlog started.

I wasn’t seriously saying it was the “best” as denoted by the “?” But I do think it is super cool. Of course you can’t compare with some of the legendary models actually produced by BMW themselves but this is a great execution of a wild idea. If you watch/read into it, a Z8 was not sacrificed for this build, it was build on the Z4 platform which I think was quite smart. Looks wise sure it can be a bit controversial given the styling similarities as noted by other’s comments above but the design thought process and execution is amazing and it is a cool idea to have a modern v8 running as well as it seems to in an older looking 2 door coupe chassis.

Cool thanks I might get in touch soon. I also did not overlook the 1m. They look like fantastic predecessors to the 2. They are almost something to lock away and Keep the kms off with only 1500 made – where is for me I’m looking for something as a car that I can put some real miles on and enjoy.

$22K if its tidy. I wouldn't be paying through the nose on a 'low kms' E30 as it basically just means its been sitting around with rotting rubber or the odometer is broken.

These are the considerations I've been mulling over with our Baur. It's not a manual, kms aren't especially low (but not silly high), and it's not NZ new. It *is* is good/very good condition, is a desirable colour, has a full list of options, and is rare. Pricing is a nightmare - many swings and roundabouts. Fortunately we're not in a hurry!

I’d take the 325i Sedan on TradeMe as a guide and add approx $4k for being manual and not being green on beige. A lot depends on condition, colour combo and options fitted. It does tick a lot of the right boxes (325 manual low kms NZ new) those finer details determine the exact price in the market. Photos would help..

That's very pretty. I like it! In the hot weather we've had lately, that'll be far more comfortable than leather.

I refreshed some injectors once. Then one of them went mental and stuck open about 2 weeks after I stuck them back in- so ended up sending them away for a proper clean/flow test etc etc. Was about $30 each from memory.

https://spareto.com/products/goetze-engine-piston-ring-kit/08-137400-00 No idea what part number I pasted there before sorry. Its a VAG fitment part ,but just consider you will hopefully remove one VAG product from the road by buying them 😉

It's a wonderful achievement and certainly worthy of praise, both the design and engineering seem really sound. And it looks great.

OK Folks. So the next project is the new daily.. What is is? - E30 coupe, Ex pickapart shell from years back, sat in a paddock for the last few years. What will it be? - E30 318i (M44) turbo.. Circa 350ish WHP, handle like a race car, look sharp, yet feel like a Bentley when you are in it.. Here is some turbo parts porn whilst i formulate some photos and more details about the project..

Well, I'm certainly not in the 'no thanks' group but I agree that 'best ever' is a big call... although, when allowing space for hyperbole, it sits closer to 'best' than 'no' on my appreciation continuum. It looks a million times better than any modern BMW and we know that the long block (once you've overcome the factory fragility) is a lifetime of satisfaction. I do think the Z8 is one of the best looking BMW's ever produced and would never fettle one if I owned it.

I have a potential lead on a 86 325i sedan manual - nz new and only two owners, just ticked over 100kms. Standard car, not MTec. What is this worth?

GOETZE P208678534 should be the ring pack you're after with the m54 1.2mm top ring and m52tu 3 piece oil control ring VAC do a kit too i think. Probably a few options these days

Nope. Styling is totally wrong. Best ever probably belongs somewhere in the E3x range.

Thanks @Vass it sure has been a bit of a journey ... nice to feel like things are moving forward again finally !! My new PDM and associated wiring bits should be here soon from Waytek Wire and YouShop. I got the dry sump pump re-mounted in an alternate position using the same bracket as previous which should work fairly well. Unfortunately needs a new drive mandrel (and belt) as i chopped the other one. Once I get the new mandrel and belt I'll complete the mounting and maybe a simple tensioning mechanism also. Super excited to be doing some wiring now also and have gone over everything that will need to interface with something external so I can plan out the power / signal distribution. Part of this mission was to condense things a little so decided to remove the massive plug used in the Skyline which linked the VVEL control module to the engine harness, power and main ECU. Translated all the wires across and crimped them ... would have been good if they had used the same colours on both sides !! An interesting fact for those interested (anyone ? ) is that there is a private CAN network between the main ECU and the VVEL control module / ECU.

It looks really very cool! I've been checking out the video at the link above - also shot cool! The price of the car is just as cool

my leg was was a high tech one replaced by the US NAVY, not the stump supplied to people in NZ. it interacts with my nervous system . not the peg leg offered in NZ. I still compete in Shotokan karate and the new leg is much faster. If i was left with your NZ healthcare i would have a stump like a pirate from the 1700's

Are these N52B25 or 30s? Cool shape, I like em.

Watched the top gear video on this yesterday - amazing car - the engine noises! crazy that its a Z4 coupe underneath. 'Best' BMW ever I would be voting for E9 CSL / E30 M3 Sport Evo / E46 M3 CS or CSL with 3 pedals. Either that or a E90 320i.

Hey Everyone So I finally got the left hand side all tacked up and ready for full weld which ill do this coming long weekend. Drivers side has been fully welded up, a little tip my engineer told me was to use stainless filler rod instead of mild and what a difference it made with the splatter and holes I was getting with the mild filler rod. Im quite pleased with how they turned out, good pratice for when i do the V12 ones. Thanks Team

? What happens when you guys drive a car you're not familiar with? In all honesty it took me an hour or so to get used to the purple tag and about 4 corners for the Z3 rack. I've never even considered an extended adaptation time, in fact this might be the first time I've heard it mentioned.

Yes, but some shenannigans suspected in the Auction, most recent Vendor doesn't appear to be a Bimmersport member.
