One of them days when works over rated for customers so whipped up some stuff, Quad throttles for a M42 using GTIR Pulsar units ( going onto my daughters car ) and start of a Audi Grp B intake manifold for my turbo M42 E36.

Take daughter to hospital on a Friday night, no pi$$ed people, no fight victims, no abusive addicts, no long queues. Great doctor works out her condition quickly , sorts breathing issues to manageable level and we get to take her home on the same evening.

Remember the good old days, when a 320 was a 3-series with a 2.0 engine? A 540 was a 5-series with a 4.0 engine? And so on...? The six-cylinder 335i is now the 340i. The four-cylinder 328i is now the 330i. The 320i designation makes sense and stays. Power increases by 1 HP to 181 HP, but torque is up to 214 lb-ft. The 328i with it's 2.0 4-cylinder engine also gains power, up to 249 HP, but torque remains the same at 258 lb-ft. This means the 328i will be now called the 330i (except in the US where it remains the 328. The 335i is renamed the 340i, and also gets more power, up to 326 HP and 332 lb-ft of torque. It’s still a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six (albeit a new engine, the B58). Diesels don't escape either. For example, the 2.0 180 HP, four-cylinder 3-series is the 328d. There's more, but my head hurts. Oh well... It's just numbers.

No doubt some of you will have seen my other threads. I'm starting a new one here to document where I started and my progress on this car. Mostly as a record for myself but you all should feel free to chime in with your thoughts as well.. Car was purchased without viewing. All I knew was it was a 1999 750i and I wanted it bad. lol I was told over the phone it was a repo and wasn't running and has 240,000kms on the clock. Picked the car up in Hamilton from Turners on the 5/05/15 and towed it home to Wanganui. I bought it as a non runner and knew I'd taken a bit of a gamble. I won..lol. I checked the water and oil then put a new battery and some gas in it yesterday and on the second crank it fired up.. Took it for a little drive up and down the road and it ran super smooth. So it got a quick wash then off to the testing station. FAIL.. Right hand tie rod bent. Some genius must have towed it from there. So because of that the Steering angle sensor has gone off and its permanently got the DSC warning light on. Right side head light is dim. Checked and the cap that holds the bulb in is broken. Passenger side rear shock is leaking. Rear seat belt wouldn't click in. Fixed. I couldn't do a lot else mechanically till I get the parts so I started cleaning it out. My first impression on seeing pics of that blue interior wasn't good. Then when I noticed it had a leather center console I felt a bit ripped off. I mean seriously, wood's key in E38's..lol After talking to some other E38 enthusiasts on other forums I've realized that no one has EVER seen a leather console before. And also after seeing the Blue in person I have to say I really like it. There are a lot of other features that make this car stand out a bit more. Like the wood inlay, vanity headrests and picnic tables on the back of the front seats. It seems to have a lot of options that you don't normally see. So I was poking around under the bonnet and found this which explains a lot. So this car just keeps throwing up nice surprises..lol Not only is it rare just being a 750i it's also an Individual. You know your keen when your out in the rain giving your car a wash..lol Then it was into the garage for a vacuum and start cleaning the interior. The leather cleaner I bought is really doing the trick. From this. To this. And this. Once I've finished cleaning up the interior I'll move onto giving this a good groom and oil change. Theres a lot that needs doing. The Silver hides a lot in the pics. It really needs a new paint job and has a couple of small dents and some surface rust in 2 spots and the clear coat is lifting on the bonnet. I think the previous owner might have live near the ocean. All the Chrome is pitted and nasty looking so it will all need to be replaced or re chromed. The 750i badge will definitely need to be redone. I don't think I'd be able to find another one of those. CD changer wont eject the case and it doesn't recognize it even has a CD player on the dash. Thats ok cause it would seem the Amp has blown as well. If you turn on the radio it just screeches at you. Boot lid open warning comes up on the dash even though the boot is closed. I'm hoping thats just a switch. In any case, I'm super happy. I've got a very cool project to play with for the foreseeable future.

People who swerve into my path (Purposely) whilst I'm lane-splitting to work in the morning on my motorcycle. It's been previously mentioned that kiwi drivers for some reason stick as far right in their lane as possible - usually this leaves me a decent margin to head down the motorway (Generally 40-50kph if traffic stopped, plenty of room for emergency braking if needed, and with people generally not adhering to the indicate for at least 2 seconds before changing lane it is often needed). Some people are lovely and move over when they see me coming..however recently with traffic being worse than usual I've had several people seem to want to take out their frustration by attempting to...well, kill me.

I've updated the post above from earlier in the day for folks interested in my cooling system. Cheers, you're right. Now with TIS also loaded up on the laptop I made a little trolley for the garage for it out of a beat up old TV cabinet on its side with some nice castors. Now I just clip the laptop into the docking station and I'm away! All the info I need right beside me.

You could not pay me to own anything from VAG group. The horror stories of service costs and that always present fear your gearbox is going to explode. Guy at work has his RS4 getting a new box. I think he was looking at well over $10K. But I agree with the BMW model numbers. 'Equivalent to' is a stupid way of doing it. Yes the E36 323i's and E39 540's from the 90's were not actually 2.3ltr and 4ltr motors. But they were close to what they were. Why not just a 320t for a 2ltr Turbo. Or the 330tt for the 3ltr twin turbo. While they are at it they can get rid of the 4 series. Everyone said you would get used to it. That never happened. Would take the proper M3 any day.

But what about an A4 2.0TFSi Quattro S-Line...slips off the tongue! Or even a A45 AMG?? A model code is a model code, you can even de-badge it if you want to. But yeah, really it's all about showing how big your car dick is..

That could simplify it using the model then a number like 11, 12, hold it that will get boring try A1, A2, then use an different number for sports like S4, S6 ...hold on think that's already been done

bit scruffy around the edges and a 320i which is harder to sell at the best of times, probably not too tempting to buy sight unseen at those kms and not much room left to make a margin for someone looking at tidying up to flick off never the less i believe it is still pretty well priced nz new car etc, the bones are still there, and pretty simple to swap a M20B25 in if you so wished, or perfect for an M5x conversion with the 320i Manual parts which are getting quite hard to find these days.

just another reason to buy a new Audi over a new BMW

Much as I love E31s and am keen to encourage new owners to share knowledge etc, it's not a project car, it's a mistress! You don't get it to modify and it'll be expensive to maintain. But the weekend rides make it all worthwhile! With your skillet and innovation, Mike, I reckon the E46 is your best bet. If it's for track then the coupe if for fun then the touring. Either way you get a timeless car that's new enough that parts are cheap and the aftermarket parts market is massive. Unlike any of the big V12s. A manual 1uz Msport touring with custom headers and exhaust would be something else!!

Went for a drive out to Muriwai (and around the place a bit) to go for a jog on the beach. Car didn't skip a beat! Its the first time I've had the car in the windies proper, and I couldn't stop smiling. Plenty of power for me, and with the solid engine mounts, you really feel the engine. So glad that I deleted the power steering. It is a great budget option to improve steering rather than replacing the rack with a faster one from a e36/46, and doesn't have the effect of modernising the car (which I am trying to avoid). The steering loads up beautifully in corners, and the feedback is great. Not so heavy at slow speeds that you can't get it to do what you want with a bit of manhandling. It has just transformed the car and created a hugely engaging driving experience, which is really what this whole project was about. Could do with a LSD though.... Anyone have any recommendations on what the best option for sourcing a LSD would be? An e30 with illegitimate M-badges on 18" chromies and a fart cannon exhaust tried to race me on the way home. I did not engage. Have been speaking to DKM Fabrication in Wairau Valley about getting a new exhaust put together.

Its hard to imagine just how fast they are when we go through at what feels like maximum attack and they do the same 20km of road 90seconds faster. We are fast though, even your average Kiwi car is 2seconds a kilometre faster than the cars 10years ago. Doesn't sound like a lot but over a few days thats huge. Cant wait!! First two stages are in the dark tomorrow night, we have 12 brand new tyres for the event and a new engine and ECU, hard to think you can drop $20,000 prepping for one event. In the words of a legend. "If in doubt, flat out"
