3 pointsThe guy is a tool. Why am I not surprised he is an abusive racist as well. Good job in "evicting" him. He said his family is wealthy and owns car yards, so I'm sure they do dodgy wofs for him.

2 pointsWahoo progress for a Friday arvo. Gonna be a busy long weekend. Cheers to the balls for sorting this out. These are m52 Pistons that have been machined slightly shorter and had the valve pockets pocketed to run bigger lift cams.

2 pointsI thought you were ex-UK like myself Graham? You must realise that most people in Leeds drink beer for breakfast, it's not a place you want to be when you are sober! On the same note, that program on Prime last night - "Skint", idiots with no education, no ambition, no jobs, hundreds of kids, no money to live off... but able to smoke, watch SkyTV and drink cans of Special Brew. Makes my blood boil..

1 pointOk! i had a thread up a while ago in the general forum about re-shelling vs restoring an M3, and well the consensus was restore so here it is; introducing brutus, my 1994 NZ new e36 m3 coupe. he is a dark individual, black on black to be exact. a few photos will follow but first the story of brutus.... i picked up the above car in pretty average condition thinking i was getting the deal of the century, all things considered now its probably going to cost me just as much as buying an m3 i good nick to start with by the time i get this one to the level of tidiness i intend. there were a few things i didn't see when looking at it first time round, lust must have taken over! but hey at 23 i was the owner of an M3! bucket list item achieved! 1st order of business - out with the black oil, in with 6l for 300km for a flush, then the full castrol edge - TWS 10-60 treatment, 3000 ks later its still amber! i also treated decidedly scungy intake filter to a K&N panel filter in the stock box and 6 new OEM spark plugs. when i first got it the head lining resembles a curtain more than the roof of a car, so first duty was to whip the head lining out. boom done, fabric and rotting foam striped off. i wanted the A and c pillars to match so out they came and got the same treatment. there was a wee pause in progress here in terms of the roof lining and the next problem reared its head. Enter the sunroof, well exit the sunroof... there was a knocking noise coming from the sunroof when the car un-weighted, and it was not tilting properly, the shuttle was not behaving 100% either but the roof portion was O.K. . until it too stuck in the open position on a drizzly day. great... out came the sunroof casset. picked up on a few broken clips in here so ordered a few from the us of a. jimmied the roof into the close position and re-installed it waiting for the bits to arrive. goodies in the mail! back in biz! or not... turns out one more clip was broken having removed the roof again causing the shuttle not to function. i have tilt now though! another order for the last clip and a tarp over the car. a few more goodies made it over with this order, a new rattle clip for the front right brake caliper that had been driving me nuts and a set of brass caliper bushings to replace the shot flexi and cracked stock ones. time to have the roof lining re-done, well thought having a matching parcel shelf would look better than the faded one in there, so out it came. there was absolutely nothing wrong with the adhesive on the parcel shelf! i must have removed about 3 layers of knuckle skin stripping the fabric off this one! Onehunga marine and auto upholstery did re-cover of these bits in an Audi RS4 esq material. black textured, and once re-installed looks really good. the finish of the job around the edges was not perfect which i was not too happy about originally, but is 100% now the head lining has been installed. next embarasing issue. the drivers door had been increasingly hard to open, until it would no longer open from the outside. slighly less than dignified effort to get into the car in westfeild carpark ended up with a passenger side entry... que replacing the drivers door handle mechanism. brand new rubbers and surrounds for both doors handles here! now the bit that had been really aggravating me. body work.... new guards, drivers door, nose cone, belly pan/under tray, wheel arch liners and radiator shrouding later the front was looking a little more like and m3 and a little less like a prats yard special! although i could not sort the light alignment out for a free beer... disassembly found 1 of the lenses not installed correctly, reassemble and we have aligned lights! PHEW. - i am still after an m3 oil cooler duct though... a few cosmetic bits here and there, LED parking lights, LED interior light conversion, ZHP shift knob and (pick-a-part score of the month) some blau-punked 6*9 including adaptors for the parcel shelf and an M-spec 3 steering wheel (this one currently residing in my 328I though) pretty much brings it up to date! And because every one loves pictures;

1 pointHehe. The LS400 is out their on its own though. I like a lot of it, but they are exceptionally boring. I have great respect for them engineering wise, all the history back in 1989 and beyond. I wouldn't bother buying an early one though, been there and done that. The 1999 models are much better, but to be honest Lexus/Toyota have far more interesting offers in the 2008+ era that are tumbling in price. IS-F, LS460s, GS460s, IS350s, The latest Toyota Crown Athletes and others. Mmmmm While in a similar class the E38 is so vastly different, aesthetically there no doubt its a more handsome car, in fact I think its one of the most handsome 4 door cars of its type, to date! I know I like a car deep down when I can't help but stare at one each time I see a good clean example parked or driving by. Given that they are dirt cheap it wouldnt be surprised if I cave in an buy one to replace my fairly iffy daily 3L red Soarer.

1 pointNice! Cross sectioned things are a fantastic way of displaying the hidden complexity of something. I would spend hours pouring over this.

1 pointIt took a while but I read through your entire thread. Love the color of your M3 and the the work you've done is inspirational. Glad to see your enjoying your ride.

1 pointHes not wealthy, has no brains or class Drives a 520i, then ruins a nice little sedan, stupid trailer trash niqqer. puts gold vinyl and wraps the whole car in dollar bill vinyl, that most honda community would avoid and outright bash as RICER. Took the whole sound system to Rice mobile cheap BS, I mean he thinks we are all stupid to buy this BS? "Yea Im a mongolian mo boss, I make sound systems & Speakers," Hes a dimwit c*nt with very low self esteem living a "look at me look at me" lie as in to extreme degree, how the F does a acrylic box compensate structural integrity of a METAL Car? apparently I am a FOB Russian Commie. Should have ask him to take the car for a wof at "my wof guy of choice" We should call him out, he needs to be put back into his place, link the RICER POS to this topic.

1 pointMy e38 is ex Singapore so should be troublesome but I have done over 120,000km on it (I got it at 50,0000) and it's been pretty good. Cooling gear needed replacement and normal suspension wear. That is why I still have it. Stick with the 750... The niggles will be long forgotten when fixed.

1 pointI know the owner of this vehicle. he is a complete twat. He came to my business driveway and proceeded to beep because there was a tow truck out the way. then proceeded to jump out his car and call me a black c&*t. I ended up forcefully putting him in his car and sending him on his way. the rear structure has been cut into to fit the subwoofer which we told him would be illegal. he got the sub box made at the perspex place next door. hahah hes an idiot. would love to give him a hiding and make him see how stupid he is

1 pointVery badass! Black exterior with tan (cinnamon?) interior is a lovely combo congrats on the purchase!
-
1 pointIt's the little things that make projects so arrgghhhhhhh. This sounds...well actually this sounds exactly why I like owning cars with not soo many electrical things to go wrong. Every E38 secondhand/buyers guide I have ever read mentions this, and that is the only thing, well other than size that puts me off. But a perfect running one must be just mint! If I was better at computer stuff I guess that wouldn't bother me at all, but I am mudd. The E38 used to be considered big, and I guess it aint small, but parked next to an E65 its much nicer I think. Keep going, its going to be real nice. I love that leather console.

1 pointSpotted this when I was in levin too. At the scrap car yard haha. you can imagine how i felt. thought i had come across a real gem. of course it was too good to be true though, the owner just worked there :~((

1 pointRofl, so I just rang the guy and he is so full of crap. He says he is the best car audio installer in nz, and that he would have won a bunch of competitions if people weren't so jealous of him. He said that heaps of car audio places (including Rapid Radio) were desperate to hire him. He wouldn't tell me what the front speakers were because they were a "secret" that he spent 10 years developing. He said the only way to find out what the front speakers are is to buy the car. There are two amps, one is an old fusion, and the other is a soundmagnus. I tried telling him that soundmagnus is pretty crap but he tried to tell me they were the best. I could go on, but its best if you ring him yourself if you want a laugh.

1 pointAh when I had steering angle issues the light would come on after a minute of driving each time. I've read about people with it permanently on just running the steering angle calibration in INPA and getting rid of it. Cheaper to get a cable and download INPA than a trip to the dealership and you get the cable to keep, as long as you have a laptop.

1 pointMore Cooling System I (practically) finished the job today, all the covers need to go back on but I needed the car to cool down after filling and testing. Today it took much, much longer than I expected - around 6 hours all up and that's on top of the time I described in my recent post! The journey I went through, appended to the last list is: 12. remove radiator (and clean dead animals from front) 13. attempt to remove hose clamp from back of water pump (fail) 14. remove 5 water pump bolts 15. crank engine by hand for clearance for 6th water pump bolt 16. loosen water pump with rubber mallet 17. spend 60 mins accessing and loosening hose clamp (as per #13) 18. remove water pump 19. spend 60 mins cleaning half of the old gasket off -- break for beer. 20. spend another hour cleaning the other half <angry> 21. install new pump and gasket (curse for not noting exactly how the hose mated) 22. spend 20 mins second-guessing where the hose should mate 23. torque water pump bolts 24. install and torque thermostat and housing 25. realise I've failed to install the engine bracket 26. undo thermostat housing bolts, place engine bracket, reinstall housing bolts 27. install TPS and bracket 28. install belts 29. install radiator and hoses 30. install new return line to expansion tank 31. fill with coolant That took a lot longer than I expected and was much more intricate than I expected. To be honest it was a real PITA! And just to make me feel even better the water pump that came out seems to be in perfect condition (it's original based on the stamped production date and it has a metal impeller - manufactured week 23 1996). + 1. The hose clamp I needed to remove at the back of the pump was obviously done up at the factory with the engine out of the car, it was almost entirely inaccessible and I had to turn the head about 1 degree each time, it took me a seriously ridiculous amount of time to get this out. 2. The lowermost bolt on the water pump (S50B32 only) is accessible through a slot in the harmonic balancer, crank the engine manually to align access slot. 3. After spending 60 mins scraping 50% of the old gasket off I pulled out the Dremel with a couple of abrasive buffs and spent another 60 mins cleaning it all up and making it smooth. Least satisfying two hours of my life. 4. Self bleeding coolant systems rock! + Given that the thermostat and water pump I replaced look perfect I'm not sure this job was worth the anguish I went through but it's done now and, aside from leak paranoia, should be something less I need to worry about. We shall see...

1 pointA lot of the rules are being broken by people who seem to miss the point, but at least we get epic cars like this entering, sure it comes 3rd to last but at least he's having a blast and taking the piss while doing it:
