3 pointsIf I understand you correctly you were stationary at the time of impact? If so then she hit you... the speed you were travelling before coming to a complete halt seems irrelevant to me. And I'd just stick to that very simple logic, I wouldn't even engage in a discussion on speed "I was stationary" period. Don't contact the husband, talk to the owner of the car you were driving as soon as you can and tell his insurance company that you were hit whilst stationary. Let them sort it out. Sorry to hear this and good luck. Edited because apparently my shift key wasn't working too well...

2 pointsim clearly in the minority in thinking PY and Kiwi is a great combo. Only one better is black with kiwi interior. I hate those painted factory wheels with a vengeance though. IMO it sounds looked after, with some rather marmite modifications, but as long as there is proof of the work done and the boot floor is still intact it wouldnt be a bad buy.

2 pointsBUT - YOU were stopped at the point of contact. She omitted to make sure her path for the u turn was clear. Quite likely a simple "didn't see" on her part, but still her mistake. Flimsy case is an under statement.

2 pointsWouldn't bother with Abraham/Marshaw, unless you specifically want the abraham/marshaw. There are a lot of versions of the wing out there now. I got mine off ebay through a Polish seller. There is a couple sellers out there now from Poland/Bulgaria, seems to be from the same manufacture. Complete 4pcs fiberglass version (really light, solid construction) shipped to my door for $340 a couple months back. No sag, and the base tapers down like the original LTW/GT wings. Build quality/fitment was better than expected considering the price, but like all fiberglass parts the surface needs to be flat sanded and re-primed.

2 pointsI didnt choose to go 4kph over past the speed camera. no, i chose to watch the road, traffic around me and the bucketing down rain instead. I shouldnt have to watch my speedo that closely, instead of watching for all the numerous hazards. 10kph tolerance is plenty and rarely exceeded in my case, but 4kph is a twitch of the needle.

2 pointsIn Christchurch Spotted an M325 at BK Yesterday Then jackpot on the way home, E24 635CSI (M6), UNF. Based on the carjam it has both a broken odometer and lives in a shed or somthing... so sad. https://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=GMZ248 Checked the vin and it is running the S38 engine, sure as heck sounded like it anyway.

2 pointsOh pull the other one. Thats a 12kph combined increase in a head on, it wouldnt make a lick of difference, but its impossible to prove with normal stats because of the variation in car safety features and pure luck. Im with Dave on the whole "speed" thing. In the stats, what criteria makes "speed" a factor, exceeding the limit by a single kph? I find it hard to believe that there are many crashes where speed alone was a factor, where the car was traveling under 20kph over the limit (under 20kph over, there will be other factors, like driver talent running out, bald tyres, alcohol etc). That then becomes excessive speed, which can be dangerous.

1 pointWife and I killed couple of days in wellington and went and saw the displays at Te Papa and War memorial. Both thoroughly enjoyed, I preferred the war museum and wife preferred Te Papa but learnt so much and we came out of both feeling quite sick and teary. decided I would have lasted 5 mins in those conditions partly because I question everything and would have had a problem blindly following orders. Really angry at the needless waste of lives by guys playing chess at the top. 4 years to try and take a f*$king hill then pack up and go home. So grateful I was born at a later time and didn't have to see my kids sent off to war, damn that made you think hard with a lump in your throat. but for the grace of god. A new found respect for those that went and the subsequent Anzac parades just because of my previous ignorance levels. Confirmed my distrust of authority, those bloody recruitment posters and bullshit Amazed at the wax figures ,preferred the real size ones at museum and kept waiting for one to move. Genius For anyone at a lose end, take the trip had to queue for an hour to get in at TePapa but no props at war museum. Both free too

1 pointHow does the "Q Motors" surrounds on the plate mean it's never seen a specialist? I bought my 335i from them, they seemed to know their stuff with BMWs and they sell heaps of them...
-
1 pointHave contacted that eBay seller to find out if they can do more I have this front lip on the way
-
1 pointLooks like its been riced and raped to me from photos and description. Id go out on a limb and say that if the cars on finance and he is selling dirt cheap its probably been poorly maintained. Save 3.5g more and buy one that's been maintained properly with service history, and no blingblingebay rice. Edit: Q motor surrounds, never seen a specialist in his ownership.

1 pointDidn't read everything but I bought the E39 windscreen rubber from BMW for sub $100 when I had one and replaced it myself in an hour
-
1 pointOnly locally. I bought one for my E46 for $100 all up from fcpeuro.com, was a genuine BMW part too. Will be a bit higher now as the NZD has dived since then but you should still save. Might be a similar case for the E39

1 pointHey Ian, its the price from forum sponsor euroitalian. Im sure the dealership would be twice that. And yea just for the part. Installation is really easy; http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1334705-DIY-Replacing-the-windshield-cowl Sorry for the hijack OP

1 pointYep, put a new one on & forget about it. As you say - finding a good second hand one. Even if - getting off & back on again may well change that. I doubt there is an aftermarket option.

1 pointYep, obviously you were stationary & she drove across you. You have nothing to worry about. Notify (as you oviously will) the Merc owner, keep the pics, & let insurance companies argue it out.
-
1 pointHope you work it out, I think you will be fine just a unwelcome hassle Not sure it it applies to your situation but parking within 6m of an intersection in not allowed in the road code. A few caveats to it can be found here. https://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/roadcode/about-driving/where-not-to-park/

1 pointHi all. Just joined. Currently running a 1987 635 Csi sitting on metric 415 M6 wheels. Gradually getting her back into drooling condition, with a few "non-visible" tweaks.
-
1 pointThe screen is eurothaned in so wont leak there. Water will tend to sit there though & if any damage to the paint - previous screen replacement, then you will have a rust issue. Best replace the trim.
-
1 pointHave a set of King lows from a 320i complete with struts hubs and front shocks. $150 plus freight

1 pointThat wing looks pretty good Daniel, thanks for the info. The Abrahams is Polyurethane I think, so do you know if there's any weight difference? Hans, I've been told it's the MSNZ regs now and I believe it may mainly relate to airbag delete cars. I've taken out the airbag of course for race wheel etc. An 8 point is good practise in any case, but attaching to the front strut does make things more fiddly around fuse box, brake booster and also heater box for the cross bar under dash. No problem if you are doing a bare bones race car but not so great if you want to retain some street car comforts and do things cheap.
-
1 pointOil change and brake fluid replacement today, brakes have been a bit soft and wasn't sure when it's was last changed so figured best swap it out. Much improved
-
1 pointGMV is the Max loaded weight, with driver passengers luggage etc - the manufacturers maximum operating limit for the vehicle.

1 pointIts easy enough to say that in a hypothetical sense but when you have people running from the scene or making up lies to the police, you may change your mind on what to do the next time around. Also, you would be surprised how many people deny liability when its blatantly obvious that its their fault. Also by being a 'minority' (asian) we get bullied by those who think they can strong-arm us into letting them go. My mother has been abused with a bombardment of words when it wasnt even her fault and since english is her second language she was too scared to say anything in response. Ever since this happened my attitudes on the matter have changed.. Anyway each to their own mate not telling you how to live your life or anything.
-
1 pointIt may not matter but it makes for a much simpler explanation (in my simple mind) and may make any witness statements about speed irrelevant. That's the way I was thinking anyway. Really she has to prove that she checked and the roadway was clear and the only reason the collision occurred was because Graham approached (from around the corner, previously unseen) too fast. That he was stationary makes that a little more difficult I would think. Again, not expert advice!
-
1 pointLet the insurance companies fight it. They don't want to pay so will put up a fight. For what it's worth a few years ago now I hit a loan car from a body shop, so I was in the position of the other party in your example. The owner of the shop called me to confirm my details and then our two insurance companies worked it out. The guy driving the car didn't have to do anything.
-
1 pointAs a statement, this is entirely true. In isolation, it is not shortsighted or missing any specific points.

1 pointif it was me i would contact my insurance company, also involve the police with details of your side of the story and any evidence to support this. Definitely act now and do what you can. Also i wouldnt bother contacting the husband, they obviously are going to try twist the story - no point talking to them. Also as a general rule of thumb in ALL accidents, I do the following: - take photo of damage to both cars - take photo of numberplate of other vehicle and rego sticker - get a copy of the drivers drivers license - and importantly i get the driver to admit that it was their fault (if it was their fault) while recording a video on my phone. If they dont want to then I will call the police immediately and make sure that they dont drive off and get a full police report done. Alternatively if ambulance show up then they can also write up a simple accident report too.

1 pointunless it wasn't a holiday? in which case they wouldn't have been speeding at all ,DOH so if we cancel all holidays the road toll will be fantastically low and we will all live happily ever after
-
1 pointbut if they were doing 6kph less, they wouldve stayed in their side of the road, and lived! Geez, its not that hard!
-
1 pointSo - head on collision you say: Is SPEED the cause of the death, or is that someone in ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD? What is the CAUSE? Well, if the speeds were less, the accident may be "less fatal", maybe avoided even. However, if that speed was then under the speed limit, "Speeding" is not a cause, but "Speed" maybe (as in not suitable for the conditions). Having said all that, if one car was NOT on the wrong side of the road, what would the RESULT be? NO ACCIDENT, so what was the CAUSE of the accident? A head-on accident is CAUSED by someone being where they shouldn't, either by loss of control, or by choosing to do it. The speed limit, and the vehicle speed are not really relevant, because the driver did it WRONG.
-
1 pointin my view, the root cause of all crashes are stupid idiot people. speed is just a byproduct of this. you can kill someone going at slower speeds i.e. 40km/h you can easily have an accident going 80 - 100km/h (with bald tires / distractions etc) falling asleep on the wheel can get you killed at any speed. having unbuckled kids / people in the car a few months ago i saw a car right in front of me got T boned at an intersection running the red light. He was going no faster than 50 - 60km crossing that intersection and the car that hit him was going roughly the same. in conclusions: idiots, the lack of education and lack/lapse of judgement is what kills. who here honestly believes that we get the driving education we need by just passing our restricted / full licenses?
-
1 pointIm beginning to think your just trolling this thread to have a laugh. funnily enough in your speed crash data graph they say excessive speed for conditions, and 6kms for a holiday period alters that? if you take out the unlicensed, disqualified and never held license columns leaves the fully license crash rate at only 10% which sounds about right to me, then add in the unwarranted and unsafe cars why should average family be penalised for incidental speed because of the idiots who ignore any limits and crash because of grossly excessive speed,no limit would ever save them from themselves back to the original point of topic there is no justification for any sane thinking person in the policy of lowering the limit for the holidays except to make more money and it makes me nervous to think we have paid staff (re police) who actually believe that it does and will give you a lecture from their lofty I've just saved your life arrogance. it discredits their intelligence in general in my opinion and therefore my respect for them. name another job which has to meet a quota for issuing tickets, save lives BS, make revenue if they want to save lives crush more cars and really ping the disqualified and unlicensed and the heavily intoxicated repeat offenders would be a huge start, bring back a seperate police and traffic dept because the idiots in traffic are going to discredit the police to their level in public opinion which is already at an all time low
-
1 pointThat was interesting, just read the motorcycle crash data. I assume car data is similar in the way that it's always the drivers fault (or another driver). Road conditions aren't considered at all. The crash I saw happen the other week that involved 3 motorcyclists go off the road would probably come under "motorcyclist veered off road / lost control" no mention of or taking into account the tar bleed and gravel all over the road mid corner on a blind corner.
-
1 pointWelcome...why do people blank out their number plates? Anyone can see them out on the street. I would give you a wave if I knew for sure it was you from your plate rather than some stranger out in his car.
-
1 pointSpeed is a FACTOR in all crashes It is not a CAUSE, it's a consequence of poor decision making at the time of driving, choice of tyres etc.
-
1 pointEscalation is probably because I get emotional about this sh*t. I know what "speeding" is and it's got nothing to do with the posted limit. That intelligent people are indoctrinated to believe/accept this dismays me. Speeding can be interpreted as two things: 1. Exceeding the posted limit; or, 2. Exceeding the limit of safe conditions Anybody that thinks #1 is accurate needs to spend a little more time reading. I can easily navigate the Waikato expressway on a fine day at 180km/h without endangering anybody. I accept that if I wreck at 180 the damage will be more than if I do so at 100 but the point is, save mechanical failure, my chances of wrecking at 180 are not more than at 100. Just rolling out a "speed" reasoning strikes me as ignorant.
-
1 pointYep crime is dropping because people have learned it is a waste of bloody time even reporting it. The cops need the public to solve crimes. Their revenue grabbing and failures will backfire on them If I am asked by the cops did I see something I will be very selective with my answers. The only person in NZ who loves the cops,4km limits above posted limits and revenue gathering and the government is Nathan. They have a long way to go with their propaganda to brainwash the rest of us who actually think and know what is going on.

1 pointAn N42 that survived 274,952km?!?!?! Should bubble wrap it and sell it back to Germany. Or whoever else wants to buy proof of the car gods' miracles BS aside, B30+ZF would be rather nice!
